Yesterday was Christmas – Maddie loves Christmas. Maddie loves two things about Christmas, 1) Faith comes to visit, and 2) There’s wrapping paper. Maddie helps everyone unwrap their gifts, she tears the wrapping paper off the package and the she jumps up on the couch next to Faith and shreds the paper. Maddie also constantly checks on Faith, presumably to make sure she’s still here. In one two-minute period while The Editor was getting ready to take Maddie outside, Maddie came back into the kitchen five times.
“Is Faith still here?”
“Yes, Maddie, I’m still here.”
Since I have a picture (and for you Maddie fans, a short video) of Maddie waiting for Faith to enter (after seeing her car in the driveway), I think I’ll go with the more excited one-liner:
“She’s here. She’s here. She’s here! Faith is here. She’s coming in this door. I know she’s coming. Where is she?”

I hope everyone is enjoying the holiday season and I hope those of you who celebrated Christmas, enjoyed the day as much as Maddie.
This post is part of Linda G. Hill’s fun weekly series One-Liner Wednesday. If you have a one-liner, I’d encourage you to join in on the fun. You can follow this link to participate and to see the one-liners from the other participants.
Sounds like the best gift of all. Love…

This was delightful Dan! Maddie is so cute, and all the little squirrels are too.
I loved the trees by the river. Happy Boxing Day! Or Day after Christmas!

Thanks Deborah. Maddie was a very good girl yesterday. Normally, she gets over-tired (like a toddler) and is a mess by the end of the day, but she remained easy-going throughout Faith’s visit. She will likely sleep all day today.
The squirrels were out in full force after the rains ended on Saturday. It’s comforting to realize that they had saved enough food to get through two days of heavy rain.
Happy Boxing Day!

Well, it sure looks like Maddie had a wonderful Christmas. The video is hysterical. Maddie certainly loves her family and wants each of you to know it. :-) We had a Cairn Terrier that loved to unwrap and shred paper, but she was a little smaller than Maddie. :-) Happy Wednesday, Dan.

Thanks Judy – Maddie is probably going to sleep Wednesday away, but she was a good girl yesterday. I think we have all the paper shreds picked up, but some are very small. She loves us all, but she fusses more over Faith. She doesn’t see here that often, so it makes sense.

Dan this was a fun slideshow today. It sounds like your town didn’t dodge that second weekend of 3 inches of rain. We missed some of the second wave. Fortunately.
Maddie’s excitement is clear even in the still photos. How fun. I’m glad to see that all of you enjoyed Christmas. Have a good rest of the year! Hugs.

Thanks Teagan. We got over 3″ of rain, Friday and Saturday – it even kept the squirrels in the trees. The park that I stop in in the morning was completely flooded. It’s still closed, but at least the water has receded. Maddie gets so excited when Faith comes to visit, but she actually calmed down and stayed calm all day this time. I’m back at work. Maddie is asleep. I hope we all have a good short week.

Faith must be the Maddie Whisperer. It is so adorable how much Maddie loves Faith and gets so excited over her visits. Does she also get a little bummed when Faith leaves? Is that why she was upside down on the couch, snoring?
LikeLiked by 1 person
She starts by lying in front of the door to try to keep Faith from leaving. Then she watches in the window, then she basically passes out. She normally takes several naps during the day, but she stays wired the entire time Faith is around. Then she crashes. My wife had to give her medicine at her crate door this morning. She stayed there while I was getting ready and she didn’t come out to sit with me before I left.

Somebody’s got a crush! I do love your menagerie. I know some people hate squirrels but they’re just too damn cute!

Thanks Pamela. As long as the squirrels stay outside, we’ll focus on the cute part. There are a bunch of them this year.
I think you’re right about Maddie’s crush on Faith.

Love the video. And Maddie definitely loves all of you. But visits from Faith are truly special.
The photo of the Beggars Society is too funny. And I think even if it rained another day or two ( God forbid!) those squirrels wouldn’t have gone hungry.
MiMi and MuMu don’t even let Christmas deter them from their routines. Ya gotta love it.
Many years ago we had two dogs, Sam and Tillie, and a cat, Queenie. S and T would help everyone open their packages too! But they would take all the torn paper and drop it in a pile that Queenie would play in!
Glad you all had a wonderful Christmas. You can’t go wrong when it’s filled with love.

Thanks Ginger! That’s so funny about the two dogs building a pile for the cat. Maddie was a bit annoying on Christmas Eve, as the Editor was wrapping gifts near the tree. Maddie just sees the paper and figures it’s for her to play with.
Faith also commented that it didn’t seem like the squirrels were in any danger of starving. It seems like they send out a scout now, and if he or she finds peanuts, they all follow. It’s funny how the squirrels approach this. They clearly have buried some peanuts, and they (well, some) are still burying them (after a sample, of course). Then there are a couple who seem to prefer a layer of body fat to fend off the cold ;-)
MuMu was up, right on time this morning to snag me -before- I made it into the bathroom. Nothing breaks that routine.
I hope you’re still enjoying the holidays.

We did, Lois. I hope you did too. Maddie enjoyed the day more than anyone. That tail was in motion all day. We have one tired pup today.

I’m assuming MiMi and MuuMuu don’t react with quite the same amount of enthusiasm as Maddie 😏
There were 6 of us on Christmas Day and it got very rowdy as the day wore on. Theo retreated to the basement for peace and quiet 🙂

MiMi retreats to the basement or to her high cradle. MuMu stays in “her” room, and just yells for people to come brush her. They aren’t much for celebrating, especially when the big red dog is running around.

Dogs are the best.

Haha! Is that squirrel named Rocky? Wow. It does not need peanuts. You need to get it on over to an overeater’s support group! 🤣Sweet Maddie…..

The squirrel says “this is just my winter coat.” Or, perhaps, “you want a piece of me, or do you want to hand over the peanuts?”

SO CUTE! Maddie’s bark got Sadie’s attention. Sadie carries on like I dunno what when anyone comes here, lots of whining when she likes them, lots of barking with strangers. Personally, I think she’s most excited by Bubba and Papaw, but the rest of the family says it’s me. How would I know?
I think Sadie is uncomfortable in the midst of unwrapping. The first year, she ate a shoes, since then we give her a big bone.

Isn’t it funny when a recorded bark (or a doorbell on tv) makes your dog crazy? The Editor doesn’t get a fuss, but when she leaves while I’m still home, Maddie cries. She gets so upset. The, when she comes home, Maddie is meh.

Wouldn’t it be nice humans would show the same enthusiasm to see their family or friends as Maddie does! Kids do – but only till they’re teens!

Sounds like Maddie’s pretty low maintenance for Christmas. No whines for candy or treats — as long as she’s got the girl and some wrapping paper she’s good to go! ;)

She was remarkably good this visit. Normally, she stays awake all day and gets cranky like an overtired toddler by mid afternoon.

I loved the post. Maddie is a sweetheart and it was nice to see her so excited in the video. It reminds me of some personal moments I had with the German Shepherd (Sunny) and Bulldogs (Samson) at my sister’s. I like your videos, but I would like to add that you should shoot for at least few minutes. I would have liked to see the reaction of Maddie when the door opens, but the video ends right there.

Thanks. I’m glad you enjoyed the video. Once the door opens, I need to get involved with helping to keep Maddie from going outside and helping the folks to get in.
