February seems bound and determined to make sure we understand that it is part of winter. Not the month before spring. Not the gateway to the pasture where March will come in like a lamb. Winter. “I am Winter!”
Yeah, yeah, Febs, we get it.
Most every nice-weather day, two coworkers and I walk for coffee. The other guy loves coffee, I like coffee and I will often snag a donut, and the woman who walks with us just does it for the exercise – go figure. We don’t walk when it’s under 20°f (-6.7°c), so we didn’t walk yesterday. The other guy stopped on his way in and brought coffees for both of us. He likes to plan ahead, so we were studying the weather forecast for the rest of the week. Today appeared like it was going to start out cold and when we looked at Thursday, I said:
“Wintry mix? Ab-So-Lute-Ly NOT!”

Two years ago, I drove in on a day where the forecast was calling for a “wintry mix.” I turned into the plaza where Dunkin’ Donuts lives, hit a long stretch of black ice and crashed into a post. Last week, I didn’t even make it as far as the garage. While I was sitting in a butt-shaped dent in the ice in our driveway, I think I heard my car breathe a sigh of relief. Maybe there was a snicker. All I know is that if there’s the slightest chance of a wintry mix on Thursday morning, this boy is working from home, Telecommuting, TC’ing, working remote, bothering MiMi, brushing MuMu and confusing Maddie who will no doubt wonder if it’s Saturday.
The Editor makes a pretty good cup of coffee, and I won’t have to walk very far.
This post is part of Linda G. Hill’s fun weekly series One-Liner Wednesday. If you have a one-liner, I’d encourage you to join in on the fun. You can follow this link to participate and to see the one-liners from the other participants.
BTW, if the caption of that first image made you think of The Moody Blues, check below the gallery.
Yay for you! And you don’t need that donut anyway. 😉The moon shots are great. I have a dew but it has been raining for weeks here and I was fighting the clouds and the changing light. I got just a couple of the gorgeous view I was seeing. Does your camera have any manual settings? When trees get in the way I use manual to focus what I want to see most clearly. I always shoot both ways to get the best shots. She is a beautiful moon. Have a safe week Dan. On your feet or on the sofa.

Thanks, I was hoping for a different look, but I liked these.
My camera does have manual settings, but I haven’t figured out the manual focus options. Besides, I took these from my car while at a stop sign, since if I pulled over in any direction, the moon would be hidden.
I have told everyone here that I’m working from home tomorrow. Freezing rain is predicted “before 8:00 am” but then the temp might go up to 50. People are all “but it’s going to be 50” and I’m back at them with “not at 6:00 am!”

You’re spot on with Febs taking winter by the tail and whipping us with it. We’re up for 5-7 more inches of snow today, and our schools have been canceled so much the Sups are taking their sweet ol’ time to decide if the schools should close or delay today because the storm hasn’t quite started yet. Stay safe, enjoy the warm cup of coffee, and yes, of course, you should brush MiMi! PS – your shots of the moon are awesome!!!

Thanks Shelley. I can do what I have to do tomorrow from home as well as I can do it in my office – there is no need to tempt this particular fate one more time. I’m content to let February win the contest.

Winter has been a bit of a bully this year and we too are expecting another beating tonight. Unfortunately I have an appointment tomorrow morning I really can’t cancel. Sigh.

That’s how I felt last week, Joanne. I had a meeting, I needed to go to work. I’ve got nothing on my schedule tomorrow other than connect to a server and work quietly. I can do that from under MiMi’s shelf. I hope you travel safely tomorrow.

Our weather is the reverse – we have the air conditioner back on. The forecast for the next week says the same.
That first image sure brought back memories of my commute years back! I think you did a great job with the moon and the tree in front!

Thanks GP – In all honesty, I’ll take ice and snow over having to have the a/c on in February. I’m glad you like the moon pictures. I wanted something different, but I like these.

It does get old at this point in the year. We’re ready for spring, but Febs is still playing with snow and ice. In recent years, March hasn’t been any better,. I hope your weather settles down.

Black ice scares me more than lightening. It’s sneaky, as you and your backside know. Your cold temps make me shiver all the way over in the midwest where we’re having the wettest February I’ve ever experienced. The Moody Blues seems like the perfect choice for this post.

Thanks Ally. I think the Moody Blues works more often than not. The weird thing is that it’s supposed to get up to 50f tomorrow. I don’t care. If there’s ice – anywhere – on the ground in the AM, I am not moving toward the door.

We pretty much have the same weather up here, just a day earlier. I am staying in! I think February feels like the second child who wants to be as memorable as the first child (January) so goes overboard. So know we think of February as the problem child! I am thinking too much . . .

I agree about February. It’s like it has something to prove. In recent years, the real problem child here has been March. Stay inside – stay safe!

Thanks Damyanti. Tropical sounds nice today. I can dream, but if I was there I’d probably complain about the heat – maybe it’s me. I’e taken so many pictures of the moon, these are among the few I’d ever bother to show. I’d say – go for it.

Thanks Hilary – I’m glad you enjoyed this. I can live without a doughnut as long as I stay on my feet. It’s supposed to get up to 50°f (10°c) in the afternoon. Maddie might not get to walk, but maybe we’ll put her cot out and sit for a bit.

In Northern Virginia, we have already had about 4 inches or so and it is still coming down. All of the schools made the decision early yesterday afternoon and the federal government is closed, because the snow is supposed to turn to ice and things will be messy soon. Tomorrow it is supposed to get up to 56, where as the high today is only 35 with a low of 32. That’s February! Nice moon shots of what I believe was a supermoon.

And under no circumstances are you to go near any steps outside until the temperature goes high enough to totally melt the ice. 😏 I’ve had it with ice. I don’t even want to see an ice cube! Lol.
LOVE the moon shots, especially the first one with the tree branches. And the first foggy photo is neat.
I think your tree may be root bound.

Ugh. I guess if you can tc tomorrow, that’s good. I cannot. We had slush like whoa here this morning. Slushy all day, but danger slush this morning. It mix rained all night long. Delay. I went in at 10:30 and it was fine, and I was glad because safe :)
I love your moon shots. Circles definitely are better frames for them. That perfect one is, well, perfect.
I don’t know what the exposure is in the tree pic, but yeah, open the blinds at least half the day, or turn them down instead of up so tree always has some filtered light. Sometimes they need more light to offset the draft of winter out there. Also, I think you might need to repot that fella. I think he needs a deeper planter and probably some food. Have you had him about 12-18 months?

I wish everyone could TC on days like this. In my case, I will literally be working typing commands into a computer in a server room. I’d be working “remote” eve if I were in the office today.
I’m glad the moon shots turned out nice and that folks like them. I have been trying forever to get good moon pics.
The tree is owned by a plant service that takes care of them. I’m not sure what it needs. I gave it a bit more light. One person said that these trees lose their leaves like this in the spring. I don’t know. I just hope it wasn’t me.

Dan, I hope you are staying home today. You are pos-i-lutely right! If there’s even a chance of ice, stay home. After the snow-mageddon year (9 years ago) when I fell on black ice while walking to work (I didn’t think it was safe to drive the mile. Stupid me.) and ending up having surgery, several wise ladies where I worked told me, “It don’t matter what they say about the streets being safe. If I can’t get off my front porch, I ain’t coming in. It ain’t worth it!”
I’ve abided by the “front porch rule” ever since.
Great shots of the moon — it’s almost as pretty as the kitties. Hugs!
