February seems bound and determined to make sure we understand that it is part of winter. Not the month before spring. Not the gateway to the pasture where March will come in like a lamb. Winter. “I am Winter!”
Yeah, yeah, Febs, we get it.
Most every nice-weather day, two coworkers and I walk for coffee. The other guy loves coffee, I like coffee and I will often snag a donut, and the woman who walks with us just does it for the exercise – go figure. We don’t walk when it’s under 20°f (-6.7°c), so we didn’t walk yesterday. The other guy stopped on his way in and brought coffees for both of us. He likes to plan ahead, so we were studying the weather forecast for the rest of the week. Today appeared like it was going to start out cold and when we looked at Thursday, I said:
“Wintry mix? Ab-So-Lute-Ly NOT!”
Two years ago, I drove in on a day where the forecast was calling for a “wintry mix.” I turned into the plaza where Dunkin’ Donuts lives, hit a long stretch of black ice and crashed into a post. Last week, I didn’t even make it as far as the garage. While I was sitting in a butt-shaped dent in the ice in our driveway, I think I heard my car breathe a sigh of relief. Maybe there was a snicker. All I know is that if there’s the slightest chance of a wintry mix on Thursday morning, this boy is working from home, Telecommuting, TC’ing, working remote, bothering MiMi, brushing MuMu and confusing Maddie who will no doubt wonder if it’s Saturday.
The Editor makes a pretty good cup of coffee, and I won’t have to walk very far.
