In keeping with the plan for an easy summer, I’ll let the pictures do the talking. It was a good, albeit wet weekend.
Maddie and I were delayed on our way out this morning.
“Can you guys stay in there for a few minutes? I’m almost done with breakfast.”
This doesn’t make nice smooth bends, but it gets the job done and that’s all we need for today.
It’s not a pretty bend, but this should give us something to hang onto.
We weren’t planning on using this “deck” until it was finished. We decided we needed something to hang onto. I fashioned this from some scrap sections from our fence.
The temporary railing has been installed and the stairs have been moved a little to the left.
Close to the wall. Maddie is enjoying her new “deck”
Mock orange in the rain.
I think these are Mock Orange blossoms
I don’t know what these are, but the flowers are pretty.
It’s raining, but Maddie needs to go out.
The storm started to clear as we approached home.
Poor Faith. On the way home from our outing on Sunday, she had to drive through a rain storm.
Yes MiMi. I’ll turn the light back off as I go upstairs.
Yes MuMu – I hear you, and I’ll brush you.
Maddie had a big day.

Too bad you had rain on the weekend. We actually had a nice enough day yesterday that we were able to sit outside well into the evening. Finally.
I smiled at your temporary railing. Of course you have a pipe bending machine 😆

Saturday was a nice day, Joanne. We had a light rain yesterday, but it didn’t interfere with the very nice day I had with our daughter. Maddie got to sit on Saturday, and she snuck a few minutes on “her deck” with Faith yesterday morning.
I don’t have the right kind of pipe bender, but the right kind costs several thousand dollars, so… This worked well enough for a temporary solution. I was planning to buy a railing kit when this project is done – I didn’t know we would need one now – Thanks!

We had rain as well. I decided to get my errands done anyway. All went well for a while, and then one good gust of wind – the umbrella turned inside-out and I instantly turned into a wet rat! I figured what the heck – I went about my stops and didn’t bother with the umbrella again.

Oh no! That’s such a horrible feeling. I’m glad you continued on with your errands. We were dressed for the rain, and it only rained hard while we were in the car. All in all, it was a very good day.

Beautiful photos of the flowers, Dan. I also love seeing the steps taken to create a deck. Hope you get sunshine soon. :)

Thanks Gwen. I’ll have to make sure I share the DIY steps for the “real” deck. This was never meant to be so involved at this point – what we do for our dogs. It looks like today will have hot and humid sunshine, then rain, rain, rain. I hope you have a nice week.

We were supposed to have rain Sunday which is why we killed ourself to hurry and finish all the yard work Saturday… which of course meant we didn’t get a drop. I love weathermen.
Not.

Hopefully you were able to enjoy the dry Sunday. You would think they could get it right the day before.

Saturday was pretty darn nice, but Sunday got messy again. I love the DIY railing. Spray paint that black and it will look like wrought iron. :-) Maddie adopting the deck as her stage is a hoot. Go Maddie. The purple flower is Spiderwort and is a pretty little thing for sure.

Ooooh, thanks for identifying that flower, Judy! I looked at the railing and thought I could hammer out a couple of kinks and tidy it up a bit, but I think I’ll just buy a short section of railing when we actually finish the deck. Maddie spend the day yesterday showing anyone who was near that the deck was dry, even though it was raining. Faith sat with her for a few minutes, but we’re trying not to encourage this habit.

What? You didn’t build that deck for Maddie to sit in the shade? I can’t believe it. :-)

Ha! We’re already scoping out some form of shade for the few points during the day when it’s sunny.

Oh, I see more posts – outdoor shades, or shade sail, and then there might be screens, or windows – ooh, my DIY pulse is quickening. :-)

Ha! First, I have to finish the actual task at hand. Maddie seems to think I’m done.

I have Mock Orange, too–in my back yard. So pretty. Glad to see Maddie’s bed is all fixed up.

Thanks Lois. It really is a pretty flower. We have two, but one isn’t doing very well. It’s a tough section to grow in. I included that picture so you guys would know that I got the message.

I see your training is coming alone nicely! I used to have a sign at my front door: “Humans Trained Here” It was true!

Ha ha – I could use that sign, Pam. I feel like now I can continue working on the larger project. You know, the project that was actually planned, as opposed to the one the dog invented.

Glad you had a great Father’s Day. Love the temporary railing. Not so pretty, but functional, and that’s what matters.
I’m afraid you already missed the boat on Maddie not getting into the habit that the new deck is “hers”! After all, there’s Mt. Maddie, and Maddie’s Cot, why not Maddie’s Deck? Lol. Let’s see…..Maddie =1, Dan =0 !
Flowers are beautiful. We’re in the same weather pattern here as you. My consolation? No shoveling!!
Happy Monday Dan, and have a great week.

Thanks Ginger. The railing will do, and since, like the current “deck” it’s made from scrap material, I’m also cleaning out my garage. Everything does seem to revolve around the pets. I guess that’s the way it’s supposed to be. I’m guessing Murphy is pretty well pampered.
I guess rain is just the weather we’re having. You’re right, there;s no need to shovel, so that’s a good thing,
Happy Monday!

Oh, my, yes, that was a wet weekend. Nice to see you and Maddie had time to snuggle and relax! Hope this week brings you sunshine!

Thanks Shelley. Apparently today’s sun is all we’re supposed to get until the weekend. I guess as long as the weekends are nice, I shouldn’t complain.

Our rabbits seem to be in hiding. We catch them occasionally on the game camera.
Impressive handrail. Good for you!

Thanks Maggie. I think the bunnies might just becoming here for meals. I’m not sure where they’re living this year. They are cute, so whenever we see them, it’s a good thing,

OMG!! That big blue tool. The heart is all aflutter. Is it possible to see a tool and not want one?

Ha ha – no, it’s not possible. That’s why I own this thing. That was on a close-out sale and it was calling me.

Dan, my buddy Stan says he wants to borrow it. Would that be okay?

Ha ha – I don’t normally lend tools, but I’ll make an exception for Stan. I have a bunch of stuff I need to store, maybe when he picks this up, he can grab that stuff and put it in your barn.

No wonder they beloved fourleggeds stayed in … looks awful – mind you our weather here hasn’t been brilliant – wonderful day today – very English early summer’s one. Glad you were able to get some ‘work’ done … cheers Hilary

The railing and bender are impressive. If the rain had not completely drenched the spiderwort the blue fuzz would be visible around the very center of the flower. Nature continues to amaze me, too much rain and too pretty flowers included. Stay dry – or as dry and safe as you can !

We’ll be working around the rain this week, John. I guess I’m “lucky” that I’m still working indoors. The railing isn’t the prettiest thing, but it was nice to be able to turn a few pieces of scrap (that I hadn’t been able to throw away) into something functional.

This post has reminded me that we need to add a railing to our front stairs. There are only a few steps but our visitors are getting older (oddly, we aren’t 😎) and safety is a concern. Sadly, we don’t own a pipe bending tool… and I’m not showing this post to my husband or we might.

Ha ha – I have to add some railings to front and back stairs and the front ramp. I bought the railing for the front, but I haven’t installed it yet. This one had to happen. It’s only two steps, but they are awkward and we’re being pulled by a dog.

Why am I not surprised you have a pipe bending machine? Loved the photos. Poor Faith. Our daughter missed the rain but not by much. Thanks for sharing the post, Dan.

Thanks John. I’m surprised how many people don’t seem to have pipe benders – what’s up with that?
It’s really amazing the number of times that Faith and I are going somewhere and it rains when she takes the wheel. I do feel bad, but she’s a good driver, so it worked.

Beautiful flower photos! we have a mock orange bush outside our front door that I started from one at my parents’ house. It smells so good – reminds me of my childhood. I usually clip some of the blooms and bring them inside just to smell that wonderful smell and reminisce.

The flowers are gorgeous!
You’re so industrious! The metal handrail looks good!

Thanks Deborah. The handrail is sturdy. That’s all it has to be for now. I was planning on adding a nicer one when I finish the deck. I didn’t know I was going to need this.
The ride home was tense, but Faith did well. At least the flowers are enjoying all this rain.

Love the pics and sorry the rain was during the weekend. Our weather pattern has gone into a normal June pattern….marine layer in the mornings breaking up in the afternoons with sunshine and pleasant temps…perfect for a Father’s Day with the grandchildren,

Thanks Kirt. The rain wasn’t a problem. It was light and intermittent while we were out and about. It started pouring on the way home.

Great to see all the furry kids. There was a mock orange bush at the house where I grew up. I always thought it was beautiful. I don’t recall hearing of one since. Nice that you have one. Hugs on the wing!

Some things just have to be bent, Teagan.
The fur-kids run this place, I just do what they tell me. The Mock Orange is struggling, but we’re doing our best to keep it happy. The blossoms are really pretty.

Growing up in an arid state [Colorado], I am so sick and tired of all the wet. I’ve been getting your rain before you do and I can tell you for certain it isn’t any better when it comes sooner than later.

I just wish it would leave for a while, and take the humidity with it, wherever it goes. I haven’t been paying attention to where this stuff has been before landing here.

I’m not sure if it is a rainy season on your end, but it is surely here. However, the problem this year is that there has been no rain. Generally, it should rain in Mumbai by 10th or 15th, but it is already 27 and all we have received is just few light spells. This has only made the heat condition worse.

We usually have a wet spring, but things dry up into a mostly dry summer. We still get rain, but 3-4 days in a row are not common. I hope something happens to break the heat for you.
