Another week, another Monday off. I did manage to snag some nice pictures during our first full sunny weekend in a long time. I hope you enjoy.
I’m a sucker for lines.
Looks like the rides are here for the Firemen’s carnival.
We’ve had two dry days, but the field will stay green for those birds.
The baseball field looks like it’s ready for those birds.
“The field looks in great shape. I think we can take those bums.”
“I hope Slow Joe isn’t playing for the other side.”
Wondering which is Jinx?
Bunny bun!
Smokey and the birds are snacking on the mix tossed on the ground.
“The squirrel missed this one. I’ll take it.”
The Blue Jay is on his way with the peanut.
A Flicker is looking for bugs. I wish him good hunting.
We think this is a juvenile Mourning Dove.
The last Mock Orange blossom in good shape competing with bright sunshine.
Recent mom squirrel is hungry. Her habit is to eat one peanut and then “ask” for another.
Snoopy is still making repairs.
“I keep telling you, they like the shadows, but they’d rather see me.”
I put the cushion and my chair out. I wasn’t sure if Maddie wanted to sit. I guess she did.
We had two nice days this weekend, and Maddie took advantage of both of them.
“Ugh, he’s not going away. I’m trying to sleep.”

It was such a glorious weekend! Nice shot of the blue jay. They’re too fast for me.

Thanks Joanne. I got lucky. Normally, they head for the high branches. This guy decided to fly low across the yard. I knew he was coming, because they sit on the gutter and try to beat the squirrels to the peanuts.

Love the raven shot. Did you know a group of them is called a congress, or an unkindness? Considering our Congress these days… they might be insulted.

Thanks. Seriously, I think maybe they were discussing calling themselves something else for a few years. They are such magnificent birds.

Beautiful photos, Dan. Truly, you could work for the Audubon Society. Like you, we’ve had a lot of rain. Makes the sunshine all the more precious, doesn’t it? :)

Aw, thanks Gwen. Back-to-back sunny days was a nice treat. It got a little warm yesterday (and it’s going to be hot today) but it beats six out of seven days of rain.

It was such a nice weekend I see one bird decided to either build a new nest or do some quick cleaning on the old one!!

It was a nice couple of days, GP. I thought Snoopy had abandoned that birdhouse. I usually clean it out and let her start over in the spring. It’s chocka-block full of stuff, I’m not sure why she’s bringing more in. Unless she’s adding on :-)

Spectacular pictures, Dan! Here too a SUNNY weekend and I was out in most of it. Finally the sun! And today, Monday, the clouds roll back in. You’re getting good with that camera! Really enjoyed your gallery!! Happy Monday! Here’s to another week! May it be great! 🌟🌟🌟

Thanks Amy. We will have a sunny day today, but the clouds roll back in tonight. Still, that’s three sunny days in a row. I think that’s a record for 2019.

Clouds turned into a very muggy soupy sunny day. I’m more comfy inside then out. When that humidity gets up there and the heat, um, I’ll take AC. LOL Three sunny days in a row! Yep a record! Here too!!

Such great photos, Dan. I cannot wait till the birds start calling the games. I’m glad they think the field is looking good. Swing, batter!

Thanks Lois/ I’m so mad at our parks and rec. dept. They sprayed the fields for bugs, so there’s nothing for the birds to eat. This is the best gathering I’ve seen this year. Don’t they understand that I have baseball games to “watch?”

Well, that’s pretty crummy. Hopefully, people will bring food–I’m talking peanuts, you guys!–for the birds.

I might have to “spill” some popcorn. We don’t toss peanuts in the park, I’m sure someone would raise the allergy flag and have me arrested.

Dear Dad, When you get back to work on this deck, I just have a couple of thoughts. Maybe you could put down some nice trex boards so there are so splinters for my paws or my pad. Speaking of my pad, have you thought about adding a place to store my pad so it stays nice and dry, and you don’t have to carry it out every time we sit? Love, Maddie

Dear Maddie. Yes, there will be a composite decking, and vinyl siding when “your deck” is complete. Silly me, I thought it would be a nice place to set up a couple of saw horses and have an additional work area on those nice summer days. I guess I need to remember to blow the sawdust off.
It’s funny, Judy. No matter where I put the cushion, she lays so her head is hanging off the edge. That’s going to be a problem when the real deck boards go down, because they will go the entire length.

Great collection of photos. Love the Blue Jay, especially flying. The Flicker is so pretty, and Snoopy so busy getting the nest right, perhaps for an expanding family? Isn’t it amazing how relatively tame wildlife can be around their human food source?
MiMi, he’s never going to stop photographing you…..we wouldn’t let him!! You and MuMu are very popular girls!
You are right Maddie, we would much rather see you than your shadow! But we like seeing dad’s shadow. 🤗 Murphy and I are glad you had beautiful weather this weekend and could spend more time outside. Murphy chased her ball a lot and sniffed every plant and every blade of grass! And we have a new bunny family that she watches from the window. Murphy loves the bunnies. She doesn’t bother them when they’re in the yard at the same time!

Good dog, Murphy! The bunnies we pass on our walks seem to have all heard about Maddie. They just sit and look as we go by.
Maddie hadn’t been to her park in a while (due to the rain) so everything had to be re-sniffed.
She is so happy, Ginger, when she sees that my chair and her cushion are NOT on the porch. That means they’re on the deck. It’s the only time she pees right away. Then she drags me to the deck. I think I could leave her there, as long as there was a bowl of peanuts.

Thanks Maggie. I guess when summer ends, I’ll have to ease back into writing. Well under 800 words and no math for a few weeks ;-)
Seriously, I like having the weekend free of thinking about what to write.

Super photos, Dan (I guess I always say that. It is true though.) We have three bluejays who believe the back fence is theirs alone. What a riot when any other creature decides to land there.

They are bullies, John. The good thing yesterday is that the Flicker and Doves like to eat bugs. It’s funny to watch the Blue Jays try to get a peanut when the squirrels are there. Those hungry mom-squirrels are not yielding any ground.

Ha ha ha. I would love to see that. I watched a squirrel get knocked off the fence by a jay. 😀

Hi Dan – glad the weather’s improved. Looks like we might be in for more storms … but I’d rather those than the major heat they’re about to get just across the Channel! Love the birds – I’ve never seen a bluebird in flight before … so thank you for that. Enjoy the improving weather and those days off – everyone will enjoy themselves – cheers Hilary

Thanks Hilary.I was lucky that the blue jay took a long low takeoff path. I had never gotten a good shot of them in flight before. We’re back to a mix of rain and sun the rest of this week, but mainly sunny during the day and thunderstorms at night.

Love all the bird images! Has Maddie chosen the deck as her favorite spot over the little patio and her pet bed?
I hope there are more sunny days in your forecast this week.
LikeLiked by 1 person
Thanks Deborah. Yes, for now, Maddie’s “deck” is the new favorite spot. It has shade until about 1:30 and then again after 4:30, and she seems to really like that it’s closed in on two sides. She doesn’t have to look in multiple directions, so she can sleep easier.
I think if we put the cot out, she’d still lay on it, but she prefers the shade. Of course, she might like it better is we put a couch out there, but we have to draw the line somewhere.

I’m glad to see you are enjoying this day off, Dan! What a fun set of photos. I’m still giggling about Jinx and his two friends! I hope I can figure out how to use that one for Brother Love. The blue jay in flight is a gorgeous shot too. So much to like here. Enjoy the rest of your lovely day. Cheers.

Happy Monday Dan! Glad you had a nice sunny weekend. Not bad here either, we missed a lot of rain yesterday that went north.
That momma squirrel is a smart one, but will not regain her girlish figure if she keeps it up. ;-)

Thanks Mary. I’m glad you had a nice weekend. Momma doesn’t seem to care about her figure at this point. I think she’s been reading about how and when baby squirrels leave the nest. She’s ready to be an empty nester.

Thanks Kirt, We hadn’t seen Smokey in a few days, he was a welcome sight. I don’t think I’ve ever got a good shot of a Blue Jay in flight until yesterday. He stayed so low to the ground for so long – not like them at all.

Nice nature shots! I especially like mama squirrel, Snoopy, the blue jay and yours and Maddie’s shadows. I did NOT have the day off and it was extraordinarily long and tiring, so I’d say you picked a good one to be home on :)

That’s a great shot of the blue jay with the peanut. Our jays are different – brownish or yellow or something – and so fast that I have yet to take a photo of a single one.
