I’ve been on the road for a while, visiting my brother. I’ll talk more about the trip later. As the early birds read this, I will be up in the air.
This was my first time in an airport/airplane since September 2019. Except for the face mask, nothing much has changed. The flight west was on-time, and idiot-free. I’m hoping for similar results on the way home. I had been following my flight for a while, and it has had pretty good on-time performance numbers and no incidents reported (that I could find).
This is the longest I’ve been gone for vacation for several years. My brother and I spent four days in Duluth, Minnesota and three at his house in Iowa. My one-liner comes to me, courtesy of Sundance, my brother’s cat. Not only was I responsible for Dad going away, but when I came home with him, I was trespassing in his territory.
“Exactly how long are you planning to be using my bed?”

This post is part of Linda G. Hill’s fun weekly series One-Liner Wednesday. If you would like to join in on the fun, you can follow this link to participate and to see the one-liners from the other participants.
Reminder: Thursday Doors returns tomorrow. The link is in the sidebar widget if you’re interested. Most of the gallery photos are ones I took before I left. I have tons of photos from the trip, but they haven’t been sorted yet.
On time and idiot free?? That’s amazing! I hope that catches on all over. It would seem Sundance is a bit territorial and you have trespassed. That is definitely the Displeased Cat look (which, it seems to me, they excel at). As for Pumpkin Spice cereals and MacNCheese Cheetos, it is WAY too early in the morning to think about such things. I hope your visit was/is a good one!

No bunny, but there’s a new cat so I’ll let it pass. 😉
I have no desire to fly right now. Not until people regain their sanity, but glad you had a nice mini vacation.

No bunnies seen in Minnesota or Iowa. Flying wasn’t something i looked forward to, but a direct flight to. MSP made it palatable. Thanks.

Looking forward to your trip with your brother. But in the meantime, everyone has got to love that picture of Maddie! Talk about one happy pup!!

Thanks GP. She was happy to be walking that day. We had a good time, but I’m happy to be heading home.

First of all Dan, I’m glad you had a great vacation and you deserved it. Love the pictures but now I have to get the important bit: may I use your shadow picture. That is a brilliant picture and my brain did a happy dance. It’s not completely written but it percolating in my brain and it’s called the Shadow Man. Oh, silly me, that was a great one liner and the perfect picture.

So glad to see Sundance again. What a handsome boy. Apparently Sundance and MiMi and MuMu are texting tips back and forth on how to keep you in line. They’ve done a great job!
Hope vacation time spent with your brother was all you hoped it would be. Can’t wait to see those photos.
Okay. Pumpkin spice in cereal is disgusting. But Cheetos Mac ‘N Cheese? You can’t be serious Dan. You would actually put that in your mouth and swallow it! Ewwwww!!!
Love “The Shadow Knows” shot. Loved that radio program. Glad the puddle keeps making a return visit. And what’s with Smokey? A little ballsy hitting you up for a peanut while Maddie was otherwise occupied. Sheesh!
But the last photo clearly showing how overjoyed Maddie is that you are back home and the walking schedule resumes is priceless. All is right with the world again. Meanwhile, the Editor is probably saying, “So what am I? Chopped liver?” Lol.
Thanks for the song that will invade all my thoughts today!

I love Mac n Cheese, Ginger and I like Cheetos. I didn’t buy it, but I might give it a try.
I was pretty sure either MuMu or MiMi sent Sundance a text. He’s a cutie but he wanted me to know that that bed is his.
Maddie loves being home with the Editor. Life is quiet and easy.
Did you see that Pam is working on something based on the shadow pic? I can’t wait to see that.
Have a great day!

That face on Maddy! Perfect shot to end the gallery –
As for the Cheetos Mac & Cheese – family members tell me it is yum. They’ve tried several other tasty variations of the product too, but draw the line at “Cotton Candy.”

Pumpkin spice….I got an email the end of August from our grocery store: Pumpkin Spice is back!!! Way too early for that… Sundance looks so cute. Like you never left home, right? I’m glad your flight was idiot-free. The passengers that make the news….scary as all getout! Happy Maddie–oh, Dan, the joy on her face!!!

There’s no good time to add pumpkin spice to Special K, Lois. Sundance did make me feel right at home.

While Sundance appears to be unhappy with his chair and bed usurping, Maddie’s doggie smile tells me that she will most certainly welcome you home, Dan. I hope you enjoyed your time away to visit the bro. I get on a plane in early October to visit mine…finally. It’s good to spend time with family.
As for the pumpkin spice everything, please just give me a piece of pumpkin pie. That’s always the best way to go. Happy Wednesday!

Pumpkin pie is the best use of pumpkin spice, Mary. I was a little nervous about flying, but it has been pretty smooth. The flight crews have been wonderful.
I think Maddie will be happy to see me. I’m not sure about the kitty girls. Sundance processed my ‘check-out’ this morning at 4:15. I think he said “I hope you enjoyed your stay,” but it might have been something else he was saying.
I wish you a series of smooth flights. I did step into your state for a few hours. We did a little tourist activity and sampled the local cuisine in Superior.

I get the same weary looks from my daughter’s cat when I visit. I hope your trip home was as pleasant as the first.

Thanks Maggie. The first leg was nice and smooth. I am optimistic about the long leg home. Then I can get those looks from our own cats.

Thanks Gwen. We had a great time. Flying was easier and less stressful than I imagined it would be. Sundance was willing to share, but he gave me a little grief.

Thanks Laura. Sundance is partial to my brother, but he might have been a little miffed about having been left home for four and a half days. I think he knew it was my fault. We had a great time.

OTIF ? ! ? ! ? ! Sounds like a modern day Twilight Zone adventure. Check the wing, check the cabin, call the air flight attendant – something is not right ! Repeat until a) plane lands, b) air flight attendant sedates you, c) you find yourself in a captains chair on a 5 year journey to explore space the final frontier.

Ot-time/Idiot-free – No gremlins on the wing. No time travel. No sedation required. Coffee was helpful :)

I agree on the pumpkin spice cereal, Dan. As a Cheetos lover, I wonder if the mac and cheese transfer will be a good one. One never knows about things like that. It just might be a name use and deep down it is Velveeta. Have a good trip back.

Hi Dan – flavoured beloved foods – why? Ghastly horrors …
But so pleased you’ve had a good trip and are on your way back … Sundance looks pretty special – and she’ll be glad to have her space back! Equally the troops will be happy to have you home – someone’s showing their pleasure – Dad’s back … yippee …
Excellent you had time with your brother … are we going to see the Ships Canal and the Aerial Lift Bridge – trying to preguess … cheers and enjoy being home – Hilary

Thanks Hilary. I see yo you get around. Yes, there are photos of the ship canal and the lift bridge – hopefully not too many – I am fascinated by big moving things. We had a great time but it’s always good to be home. Sundance is a cutie. Maddie will be happy to see me. If the cats are happy, I’m sure they’ll find a way to hide it.

I wonder if you can copyright “On time and idiot free…” I used to know the answer to that, but not right now.
This is such a fun post, Dan. Sundance is a fabulous name for a ginger cat. It seems to suit his personality perfectly too. It seems like you had a wonderful visit. I am sure all the pets and the outdoor critters are happy to have you back at home though. Hugs on the wing!

Thanks Teagan. I think you have to trademark a slogan. I suppose I could apply it to my blog posts – they are generally on time. I have to leave the rest for others to decide. All three flights were OTIF (I might use that as a hashtag).
Maddie will be happy to see me. MiMi and MuMu, I’m not so sure.
We had a great time. I’ll be sharing pictures for a while

Sounds like the ideal plane trip, Dan. I’m amazed at how many idiots there are trying to fly without obeying the rules. A day or so ago I read about a woman taken of a flight (Jet Blue?) in handcuffs for refusing to wear a mask. Geez. It’s simple: if you don’t want to wear a mask, don’t fly. Period. And never ever do the violent things that have been going on!! I say fine the heck out of those people and make them pay restitution for anything they did.
End of rant. Hope you made it safely and idiot-free home and had a great time. The Sundance story made me smile. Sacre bleu! Invaders!

Safely home, Janet. One minor encounter with an idiot, but quickly resolved by the flight attendant. It’s really pretty simple, the sign was in the parking garage. Masks required from this point forward.

I loved reading that one of the airlines was telling their flight attendants not to use duct tape to restrain passengers. I thought it was a great idea and maybe I should carry a roll when I finally travel again, just in case. :-)

Our flight attendants reminded everyone to wear their masks – correctly and that it was a federal order, not Delta’s and not the crew’s.

How awesome you had a real getaway. I’m relieved there was no in flight drama for you. You know I’m on your team against the ‘pumpkin spice’ invasion. Don’t bother with the Cheetos mac n cheese. Kraft or Annie’s is still the top. Love that bee photo. 😉

Hi Dan! I also boarded an airplane for the first time since ‘forever’. Things were pretty much the same for me, too. LA is a long flight from Boston. I’m finally catching up. I will be on a TV show, so stay tuned for more information. I think Sundance and Mimi are cut from the same cloth. I absolutely love the photo of Maddie! And finally, did you try the Cheetos Mac & Cheese?
