For a few days last week, I visited our daughter Faith’s home each day to take care of her cat, Preston. I slept there (intermittently). I fed him (frequently) and I left each morning to return to our house. Later in the day, I’d return. I would leave Preston a dish of food before I left each day, but when I returned, he was ready to eat again.
Faith and I are both fans of the movie “The Blues Brothers.” If you’ve seen the movie, then you will recognize the caption offered as my one-liner. If you need some clarification, the clip is under the gallery and the unrepentant advertising. In any case, we both agree that Preston’s expression fits.

“Did you get me my Cheez Whiz boy?”

Another Blues Brothers fan here. One of my teaching friends and I danced and cartwheeled across the stage for the school talent show one year dressed as The Blues Brothers. “Talent” was a minor part of our act.

Cartwheeling across the stage took courage. Nicely done! I still find it hard not to switch to that movie if I see it in the lineup.

Preston is a lucky guy to have you on call. :-) Your Rose of Sharon are always beautiful. I bought ‘a’ Rose of Sharon at our plant sale this year. When I got it home and was ready to plant, I had ‘7’ very small ones. Each and every one is planted around the property. I’m hoping a couple will make it through the first year with the heat and the drought.

We had to transplant two one year in the fall. We thought they had died, but a lot of water later, they came back to green. One didn’t get green until July, but it still managed bloom. They spread themselves frequently. We always find new little ones popping up. Unfortunately, I mowed one of them down, but it’s trying to come back.
Preston knows I am happy to hang with him. I hope you’re dealing well with the heat.

We had ‘real feel’ of 105 today. It was miserable doing my morning chores, but then we went to the water and had a picnic lunch with a friend, and there was a decent breeze just sitting and not doing. :-)

Our ‘feels like’ got up to 114, with actual temp of 100. No ocean breeze nearby 🙁

Today’s one liner and Preston’s expression made me….well, in today’s plain English, LMAO! Add MuMu and her one liners and those two could have their own TV show! Thanks for the early morning belly laugh. It’s 72* now, so in a few hours I won’t be able to laugh!
The reflections of the bird and flag are great. Even in this oppressive heat Old Glory manages to look fresh and crisp!
Preston watching you from the window is just too cute. You’re a good Cat-Grandpa Dan. Between Preston and MiMi and MuMu training you, Faith and the Editor could rent you out as a Cat Whisperer and make a fortune!
Take it easy in this oppressive heat and humidity.

He’s so funny, Ginger. He stays in the window, but even when he was upstairs, by the time I get the door open, he’s right there ready to lad me to his food drawer. Even when Faith is home, and I’m just visiting her or she and I are going somewhere, when I come in, he expects me to feed him. It’d nice to be needed…I guess.
I was thrilled to see that I had captured a bird in the puddle. I have tried to get that shot for years, but none came out clear. The flag looked hot, and I was walking early.
I skipped a walk today. I remember skipping days like this when Maddie was alive because the sidewalks were already hot. Some days, we only made it to the corner.
Hang in there. Stay cool if you can.

Preston sure is a pretty cat – did you get him any Chez Whiz?
To answer your cat – Yes, we all read Dan’s posts!!

Thanks GP. MuMu thinks the only reason I should be sitting at my desk is so I can scratch and brush her.

That quote and Preston’s expression go together so perfectly. Can you just imagine the thoughts going through his head?! he’s here. let the fun begin. Oh, MuMu–you are always the comedy relief. I could picture sitting in the back of the room with MuMu making sarcastic comments about everyone and everything. You know–being catty. 😹 She’d be a riot.

I think she would snuggle up on your lap and give you paw taps, Lois.

My cat would react to the sound of a can opening. The problem was he’d react to a sound of a can opening EVERY time we opened any can. Even if he was eating, that sound got his attention and it needed to be investigated further. I don’t know what it is about this year, but we’ve got bunnies everywhere in the morning getting breakfast. I think a new family moved in nearby. :)

We have more bunnies than ever this year. Our dog had very selective hearing. She ignored most kitchen sounds but knew when we were unwrapping something we could share.

Congratulations on the bird reflection! Your one-liner made me laugh, because I’ve always said the difference between cats and dogs is that dogs love you and ask “What can I do for you”, while cats ask “What are you going to do for me?”

That pretty much sums up our experience. I was so happy to catch that bird.

Ahhhh the Blues Brothers. Preston just wants a little R. E. S. P. E. C. T. Okay I’ll forgive you for letting me get all zen with the beautiful Rose of Sharon then shocking me with the arachnid! 😱🤦♀️

Sorry about the spider. I’ve used Aretha’s lines in the past. It’s a great movie for one-liners.

Haha. That is one seriously intent look, Dan. Cute grasshopper. The puddle reflection had me tilting my head, before I had scrolled down enough. Good one. Hugs on the wing.

He was hungry. I was (a few minutes) late. I have tried so many times to catch a bird’s reflection in a puddle. Thanks.

Good pics. Good one liner. Even if I have no recollection where this occurred in the movie. Happy Wednesday Dan.

I reading about your heat. That’s unusual, isn’t it?

Yes … we had a mega long heat wave in 1976 … when it didn’t rain for nearly six months … I worked three jobs … I was happy going out at some unearthly hour in the cool … but they’re saying this is very hot – and yes it is … it is much worse in Europe … but I am glad I live near the coast and not in London as I was in 76. It’s still hot, but ten degrees lower!! Also there’s lots of cool wind today … cheers Hilary

Cats are funny creatures, aren’t they, Dan? Very demanding in some ways. The spider on the metal roof/fence is most intriguing. I’ve not seen one like it before.
