Welcome to Thursday Doors! This is a weekly challenge for people who love doors and architecture to come together to admire and share their favorite door photos, drawings, or other images or stories from around the world. If you’d like to join us, simply create your own Thursday Doors post each (or any) week and then share a link to your post in the comments below, anytime between 12:01 am Thursday morning and Saturday noon (North American eastern time). If you like, you can add our badge to your post.

That’s the standard Reusable Block opening for Thursday Doors, but we remain on hiatus this week. Of course, some people ignore my suggestion to take a break, and I can support that by being here. I do have some IMPORTANT NEWS today.

Tomorrow is the final day to submit an entry for the Thursday Doors Badge Contest. We don’t have many entries, but rules being rules, the schedule will remain in force. If you want the information on the contest, it’s all listed in this post. The bottom line:

  • Design a badge
  • Post it on your blog
  • Let me know by posting a comment on any post on my blog
  • If you don’t have a blog, email your badge to me (noFacilities at gmail dot com)

Because I really don’t like seeing the blank stare entry on my home page when I have no pictures, I’m including a few of my earliest doors in a small gallery today.

I’ll be here on Saturday, but if you’re not, I wish you all the best in the New Year!

All five of my current books are now available in audio book form thanks to Amazon KDP’s Virtual Voice process. The voice is AI generated, but I can honestly say, it’s pretty darn good. The audio books are reasonably priced (all below $7 US) and, if you already own the Kindle version and want to add an audio version, you can do that for $1.99. There is a five-minute sample on the book page for each book. If you’re interested, click on any of the Dreamer’s Alliance book links below the image or on the link below for my latest book.

  2. It’s always worth checking. Even when you’re on break, there might be doors. Nice ones, too! The very best to you, too, Dan, in this coming year!

    1. Thanks Maureen. I didn’t want to be staring at that empty box. I hope you have a wonderful new year, too.

  3. Love the gatehouse… and that garage. Wow, sinking or not it’s impressive.
Footnote- spellcheck changed impressive to no more sauce. 🤣

    1. “no more sauce” ??? Now that’;s impressive ;-) I’m not sure why the cemetery needed gatehouses (there’s one on each side), but they are interesting.

      1. The cemetery needs a gatehouse because people are dying to get in.
I’m here all night. Don’t forget to tip your waitress…

  4. Admit it Dan, you’re a door addict! And so are we who are commenting! 🥴

Love the sinking garage. It’s still classy, and both entrances on the Elm Grove Chapel are eye catchers. The gatehouse at Melrose Cemetery is definitely unique. It looks like it was lopped off of the top of a castle and plunked there.

Nice little year end tour Dan.

    See ya Saturday!

    1. I don’t think there was ever any doubt, Ginger. I know someone will have a doors post today (there is one out there, but he doesn’t link here). I thought these might be some that very few people had seen.

The gate house has slit openings like the ones castles had for archers to shoot through. It’s a cemetery! What would they be protecting?

I hope you have a good end of the week. I’ll be here on Saturday.

      1. I agree. When I lived in South Bend the Studebaker family mansion was bought by a restaurant group and fully restored. It was so much fun going there to explore the history inside.

  12. Great photos, Dan. I know I’ve missed a lot of posts through the holidays, but I’m easing my way back in. :) Yours is always a blog I enjoy visiting. The mortuary chapel looks like a child’s playhouse. :)

        1. I’m sorry. But you have to admit, it’s an odd pair of buildings to be in front of a cemetery. There are arrowslits in the walls. I’m wondering who was buried there before my family members. ;-)
