We’re back in the 70-80° (21-27°c) range this week and next. Not quite summer, but when it climbs into the upper 80s, it feels like summer. Enough like summer to send David and I to the bar for a bit of cool refreshment. It’s been a busy week, so I might have to bring David up to date. Of course, I’ll see if I can work in a response to Linda G. Hill’s Stream of Consciousness Saturday prompt.
“Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is ‘starts with over.’ Find a word that starts with ‘over’ and use it for your prompt. Enjoy!”
If we were having a beer, we’d feel like we deserved it.
“Cheryl, I see you joined Dan’s writing challenge. That was a beautiful poem.”
“Thank you, David. It’s an interesting challenge. Have you thought about joining?”
“You know I don’t have a blog.”
“That doesn’t matter. Dan will post it on his.”
“No thanks. I’m having enough fun reading the entries.”
“You’ve been reading my blog, David.”
“I always read your blog, Dan. It’s been a bit overwhelming lately, but it’s all good. Especially the stuff written by the others.”
“Thanks. I think there was a compliment in there.”
“Is there a drink order anywhere in here?”
“Yes, Cheryl. I will have my usual John Howell’s Bourbon. I’m assuming Dan will have a beer.”
“That sounds good to me.”
“I’ll get those. You boys want any food today?”
“Just the drinks for now, Cheryl.”
“OK. Here’s that bourbon, a glass of seltzer and a glass of ice. Yes, there are cherries in the bourbon. Dan, here’s a Modelo, although I have an overwhelming suspicion, I shouldn’t give it to you.”
“Why do you say that?”
“Let’s just say I saw your car at Scooter’s.”
“OK, you got me. I wanted a burger, fries, and a hot dog. You guys have good burgers, but I just wanted that simple combination.”
“But Scooter’s doesn’t have a liquor license.”
“I know. That’s why I’m here.”
“Now that that’s settled, can we move on?”
“Sure, David. What’s on your mind?”
“Nothing much, but I was wondering where you were this week?”
“I spent a couple nights at Faith’s.”
“Watching Preston?”
“Feeding Preston.”
“I think you enjoy spending time with him, Dan.”
“I do. He is my buddy. He even sat on the couch and watched a movie with me.”
“What movie?”
“Eldorado.”
“Ride boldly ride?”
“Yes, that one.”
“Who wrote that poem, the one the sidekick keeps quoting?”
“The sidekick is called Mississippi, David.”
“Played by a young James Caan if I recall.”
“Yes. Not his first movie, but an early one.”
“OK. But who wrote the poem? Or, did they just write that for the movie.”
“No. The poem was written by Edgar Allen Poe.”
“Really. Does that work in the movie? I mean, would the poem have been written in the time frame?”
“The movie takes place after the Civil War. Poe wrote that poem in the eighteen thirties.”
“You guys want another round, or do you want to fact check something else?”
“I was just curious, Cheryl. Sometimes I wonder about Dan.”
“I only wonder about him when he stops at one beer.”
“Not today, Cheryl. Not today. David’s buying, so bring us another round.”
All five of my current books are now available in audio book form thanks to Amazon KDP’s Virtual Voice process. The voice is AI generated, but I can honestly say, it’s pretty darn good. The audio books are reasonably priced (all below $7 US) and, if you already own the Kindle version and want to add an audio version, you can do that for $1.99. There is a five-minute sample on the book page for each book. If you’re interested, click on any of the Dreamer’s Alliance book links below the image or on the link below for my latest book.
