During the past seven days, I was visiting my brother in Iowa. After more than forty years of regular—sometimes frequent—travel, this roughly annual trip has become my only air travel. Therefore, it’s my chance to assess the state of air travel.
Others out here travel more often than I do, so I’ll summarize my observations.
- Air travel is more expensive than it was a year ago
- Airlines have made the process more self-serve by having passengers check-in their own baggage
- Airline operations seem to have stabilized considerably over the past three years
- I think they managed to pack a few more people on the plane
- The people, at least on Delta, are friendly, polite and professional.
One observation that still holds for me after all these years:
“Despite all the good times—and there were many—the best part of travel is returning home.”

Note: Tomorrow marks the return of Thursday Doors to its regular schedule. I hope to see you there.
All five of my current books are now available in audio book form thanks to Amazon KDP’s Virtual Voice process. The voice is AI generated, but I can honestly say, it’s pretty darn good. The audio books are reasonably priced (all below $7 US) and, if you already own the Kindle version and want to add an audio version, you can do that for $1.99. There is a five-minute sample on the book page for each book. If you’re interested, click on any of the Dreamer’s Alliance book links below the image or on the link below for my latest book.
