Welcome to July 2023—wow—it hardly seems possible. It’s been a busy week, and unless we want a repeat of last week’s lengthy post, we need to spread the things that contributed to that busyness over a few posts. David, Cheryl, and I are starting a long weekend here in the States, so we don’t want to be here too long, either. Hopefully, we can wrestle Linda G. Hill’s Stream of Consciousness Saturday prompt to the ground, have a refreshing beverage and move on.

“Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is ‘rock.’ Use it any way you’d like. Have fun!”

If we were having a beer, you’d have a few questions, but we might not have time for the answers.

“Good afternoon, Dan, Cheryl.”

“Good afternoon, David. Bourbon?”

“Yes, and a beer for Dan.”

“Are you OK, David? You seem a little off.”

“Well, I have some questions for Dan, but I don’t want to start him with a long explanation. You know how he goes on.”

“David.”

“Yes, Dan.”

“I’m right here.”

“I meant no offense, Dan.”

“David, that’s what people say when they are about to say something offensive.”

“I get that, Dan, but here’s the thing. I haven’t really talked to you since you returned from Iowa. It’s too much ground to cover on one Saturday, especially since I’d like to get out of here early today.”

“So much to cover, David, but I’m planning to share some of the information and photos in some upcoming blog posts.”

“Fine, I’ll wait for the movie, as it were. What have you got for me that isn’t going to be explored later?”

“You put me between a rock and a hard place, David. If I get started…”

“Oh, we know, Dan, we know. Once you get started that rock will fall on the accelerator and you’ll be off to the races and Cheryl and I will be at your mercy.”

“I’ll spare you that for today. Let’s leave those stories to another day. Let’s have a beer and a bourbon and enjoy the long holiday weekend.” “Dan, I’d love to ask you another question, but I think I’ll take your advice. Enjoy this weekend, enjoy the fourth of July and I’ll look for the stories you plan to share.”

And Happy Canada Day to our friends north of the border.

All five of my current books are now available in audio book form thanks to Amazon KDP’s Virtual Voice process. The voice is AI generated, but I can honestly say, it’s pretty darn good. The audio books are reasonably priced (all below $7 US) and, if you already own the Kindle version and want to add an audio version, you can do that for $1.99. There is a five-minute sample on the book page for each book. If you’re interested, click on any of the Dreamer’s Alliance book links below the image or on the link below for my latest book.

  2. I’m sure you’ll be around for the official 4th of July. But just in case, Happy Independence Day!
Thank you for the wishes. Many things had to be cancelled last night due to poor air quality. This thing is lasting forever. I can’t imagine what the people near the fires are going through.
Lovely images. I love that you can capture a snoozing rabbit!

    1. The air quality here isn’t as bad as it was a few weeks ago, but I don’t think I’ll be working outside.

That bunny used to always run away when I walked by. Now, if I make a wide enough loop (to get water for the birdbaths) she/he just goes back to sleep… “It’s just the cabana boy.”

I hope you have a great weekend!

      1. Ours isn’t that bad, to be honest. 51 is the start of “poor” at we’re at 62…
I guess he should be getting used to you :)
Thank you! Off to work for about two hours (cruise ship is coming in and I have to help organise the various guides for the various tours)

  5. As someone who prefers dark beers — stouts are my go-to — I applaud your choice, Dan! Hope you have a nice and relaxing holiday weekend.

    1. Thanks Paul. I hadn’t seen the dark Modelo around here, but I found it in Iowa. It’s a dark lager, not a stout or a porter, but at least you can’t see through it. I hope you have a nice long weekend.

  6. Enjoy the weekend Dan. That is a bright yellow daylily !

    1. Thanks John. Fortunately, nobody seems interested in eating it. It’s right next to the “door” in the lattice that the bunny made.

      1. There is no explaining tastes. Be it in humans or animals in general. The bunnies here leave the daylilies alone. It could be the clover in the lawn tastes better. They say that in the country if someone is growing soybeans nearby the daylilies are safe. Being in the city I have to resort to other methods. That yellow is a pretty thing !

  8. I love the Daylily! So bright. The Fireman’s carnival looks fun. Oh you know I’ve been a fan of Modelo Negro for quite some time. After drinking it, the blonde ‘pales’ in comparison. 🫢Happy Holiday Dan.

    1. I like them both, Cheryl. I hadn’t seen the dark around here, but we found it in Iowa. It is a tasty brew. That daylily was a gift with some other seeds we bought. It’s been here forever.

  9. Happy 4th, Dan! I swear that pic of Slow Joe first appeared like a squirrel riding on a flying magic carpet! I had to look twice! 🤣
Have a nice relaxing weekend, all the pics were great!

Bunnies abound here too this year. Last year not so much. That bunny stretched out grabbing a few winks is just too cute.

Once again your Firemen’s Carnival looks well set up. Hope it was a success.

And the playground always looks so nice. Unfortunately that’s not the case in some areas.

I love seeing the banners in our town recognizing those who have so bravely served. I like that they hang new ones up to try to include everyone. Every city, town, village, etc,. should be displaying these banners across this country.

Sad to see Old Glory at half staff once again. Senator/Governor Weicker would be proud.

That’s one beautiful and bright Day Lily Dan, and what a nice greeting when you come home.

Hope you and the Editor and Faith enjoy a safe and happy holiday weekend. Happy Canada Day to our friends to the north.

    1. Thanks Ginger. Lowell Weicker introduced our income tax and cut the deal for the casinos to open. Quite the legacy.

I think the carnival was a success. I did my part, eating, drinking and five tickets left over. I enjoyed the parade, and I got a picture that I needed for work I’m doing on the cover of my next book.

I do love seeing the banners. I think they also have one at Memorial Hall, downtown. These people deserve recognition.

I’m going to take it easy this weekend.CT State Police have already responded to 151 accidents, including 2 deaths.

Stay safe and enjoy the holiday.

  16. Happy weekend, Dan. That bright yellow lily is startlingly beautiful. I love the Ferris wheel photo, with those wildly feathered clouds in the sky. It makes me wonder what a carnival would be like in Atonement, TN… especially since the ruins of the old Zombie Funhouse are there. Hmmmm…. You may have inspired an episode down the line. Hugs.

    1. In the interest of full transparency, Janet, it’s a dark lager. I will have pictures from Iowa showing a dark ale, and a Carmel Ale. I hadn’t seen the Dark Modelo around here. They had it where my brother shops, so I decided to try it. I do like it.

I am glad you explained that the bunny was only sleeping. He/she does look so cute.
We have been under this heat dome for a week but it is supposed to break this weekend. I don’t even want to hear what the temperature is, let alone the ‘real feel.’ It always reminds me of Robin Williams giving the weather report in “Good Morning Vietnam’–“it’s hot–damn hot!”
    Have a great weekend, Dan.
