I am not normally a sucker for scams, like “Heat your home for pennies a day,” or “Earn thousands by stuffing candy boxes for Amazon.” These are easy to ignore, especially when the email address contains more than a few curious terms after the ‘.com’ part of the address. That said, if a trusted source sends me an email that seems somewhat too good to be true, I feel I should have a look.

Today’s one liner is the subject line of an email from my healthcare provider. The people connecting me with my doctors, my pharmacy and the hospital that I visited via the emergency room.

That’s the email subject line

Don’t take me for a total fool. I didn’t open that email with any expectations of greasy fried things, things that come in foil bags or things that can be dipped in high-calorie yet delicious tubs of creamy goodness. I wasn’t expecting ice cream, chocolate or alcohol to be a component. Still, I was curious about what these learned individuals consider a snack that might actually be good for me.

What I wasn’t expecting was a despicable play on words—an abuse of the English language—a breach of trust between me and an organization I previously had come to trust.

Exercise “Snacking” Your Way to Better Health

Who doesn’t love a snack?  Especially a savory bite or a little something that satisfies your sweet tooth.  There’s a new type of “snack” that fitness folks are talking about, and it might go a long way toward mitigating the effects of those extra calories.

While the benefits of a dedicated exercise plan are well known, it’s often difficult to fit a bike ride or hike into your daily schedule. Exercise “snacking” is a quick and easy way to improve your health through physical activity.

Researchers have found that individuals who engage in short bursts of exercise throughout the day – even just a few minutes at a time – can reap health benefits regarding muscle strength and cardiovascular health.

  4. I read of exercise snacks a while back, and I just shook my head. Apparently doctors are desperate to get us moving. I’d really appreciate it if rabbits would learn about exercise snacks. Nice close-ups of summer raindrops!

    1. As opposed to flower and veggie snacks? Yeah, I know you’ve gotten over the cute part, but we still find them more cute than annoying. Whoever came up with exercise snacks should be taped to a treadmill. I’m glad you like the photos. Now, where’s that bag of chips?

      1. Doesn’t hunting for a bag of chips count as exercise?

  5. Now, that is just wrong. :-) I found your blue skies and ball field watering interesting. We see the sun in ‘minutes,’ our ground is so soggy I can’t describe it except to say gardening boots are required, and every green plant is being eaten by someone or something. Tough year to enjoy the outdoors., and I can only imagine how upset campers are this year.

    1. The weather has been so crazy this year. The forecast on Sunday was for “mostly cloudy and showers after 10:00 am.” We had 1.6″ of rain by 10:00 am and we ended up with over 4″ for the day. I think we’re over 6″ for the month. Then, when the sun does break through, it’s hot :( We are losing certain plants (eggplant and cucumbers) to someone, but not sure who.

Nope! I’ll stay with my chocolate chip cookies and Hershey’s dark chocolate kisses for my snacks, thank you very much!

Even though it’s actually not raining this morning, it feels like it is. Everything is drenched and dripping water. The lawn squishes when you step on it. We’re due for sunshine later, so perhaps we’ll dry out. All kinds of weird mushrooms are sprouting.

The bunnies are plentiful here too, and cuter than ever. Love seeing MiMi on the job. Such a good girl.

I think you should make a little ramp so baby bunny can get up on the step!

    1. I saw the baby stand up to see what was on the step. I think I heard, “Oh, no food up there…” It’s so dang cute.

I’m going to try walking today, but it looks gross out there. Still, I don’t want my doctor prescribing a treadmill. Ugh, that ad bothered me.

MiMi did her stint on guard duty, then sprawled on the couch like a dog. For a little cat, she can take up a lot of room.

I hope things dry out today, Ginger. Keep your snack coming from a bag.

  8. Exercise snacking, eh? That was just mean… ;-) And I might have to try it ;-)
Lovely shots of bunnies and squirrels. As I was going through my field (I mean lawn), I notice a bunch of little holes. Dammit. Grubs being dug up, methinks. I am not pleased.

    1. Little holes in our yard mean a chipmunk is adding onto his home. I think the email was mean, even if I could benefit from a bit more exercise. I hope you’re having a good week.

      1. We don’t have that many chipmunks – funny because just the other day someone posted a pic and the commentary was, where are they? I’m not feeling good about the number of holes….
And yes, it was mean and unnecessary ;-)
So far, so good. Rain, thunderstorms, humid and hot… a little of each pretty much every day!

Your bunnies are cuter than our jackrabbits ☺️
Send us some of that rain, will ya?

Dan, the bunnies are so cute! And those three coming up your driveway…I would squeal like a girl if I saw them! 😆
At 7:30 am, the temp was 84 but it feels like 94. You can’t breathe in that stuff let alone walk.

    1. Seriously, at least they could have suggested taking a bag or corn chips with you on the treadmill, or rewarding yourself with a couple Hershey’s Kisses. This is what’s wrong with healthcare ;-)

The bunny parade was so cute. I delayed my walk and let them go on their way. Speaking of snacking, they stop every few seconds to eat something.

Your weather has ‘Yuck’ written all over the dial, Lois. Stay cool.

  17. I’m on the right tract then, eat Twinkies and walk all day long. LOL Your bunnies and squirrels are too cute. Mine are not great at posing. A friend got a great cat video that she shared yesterday. This cat walks on a leash, and actually CAUGHT a gopher while on his walk. He carried it around for a short time, then the gopher got away. Instead of scurrying away, the gopher actually stood up and shook his paws in the cat’s face. The cat watched as the gopher zipped into his hole. If it was on social medial the video would go viral. Have a great week, Dan!

  26. Your yard critters are adorable as usual and I also move slowly or away from bunnies munching – I’m always worried bunnies or squirrels will spook and run into the street. Now that is some carefully crafted language to make you look … “exercise snacking” is not as fun as the real deal, especially to an Oreo cookie lover like yourself.
