Last week was pretty busy around here. We were trying to squeeze necessary activity in between violent thunderstorms and 90+ degree heat (33°c). I didn’t check Cee’s prompt for her Fun Foto Challenge until yesterday. Still, I was sure I could find some good examples. The gallery includes what I found.

Some of the photos in the gallery were used in the covers and promotional trailers for the books in the Dreamer’s Alliance Series.

  2. That flooded parking lot makes a lovely image, but hardly a welcome for folks who want to park. The bird and the path at Great River Park are Hitchcock-worthy!

    1. When I was working, the flooded park meant I’d end up behind my desk even earlier. Thanks for the comment about the dark walkway. That photo might end up on the cover of a mystery I am working on.

  3. Have to say I love the old telephone booth, but that’s probably because I spent some time in those when I was a kid. :-) Enjoy the cooler weather this week. I sure am.

You captured some great pictures Dan. Love that taxi stand! That path looks like something from a Jekyll and Hyde movie! The tug looks like a little toy. Old Glory is at home any where she flies.

Enjoy this refreshing weather while it lasts. Hope this week is less hectic for you.

    1. I’m glad you liked these, Ginger. I mentioned to Maureen, that path photo might end up on the cover of a mystery I’m working on.

It’s always great to start a baseball game singing the national anthem.

      Enjoy this cool dry week!

Love your photos, Dan. As many times as I’ve been in NYC, I never noticed the old telephone booth. I will make a point to notice it now. Thank you for the inspiration! Have a great day. 🌞

    1. Thanks Gwen. That booth is at the south exit from Grand Central Terminal. I was there in June and it was still standing.

I hope you have a great week.

  9. The picture/caption of the bunny photo made me laugh. I’m picturing you at night with that flashlight come on, bunny, one little photo
The night shot in the bad part of town… Dan, that is a wonderful capture. I’m waiting for Humphrey Bogart to appear with his hat turned down and his trench coat collar up. Gosh, I love that photo.
Joey…I miss her. She’s not blogged in forever.

    1. I do talk to the bunnies, Lois. “River doesn’t have any bunnies where she lives. I just need one picture.” I’m working on a mystery (for 2024) and I’m thinking that that photo might find its way onto the cover. The reaction here today has been great.

I miss Joey, too. I see her photos on Instagram, now and then, but no blog :(

  10. You had me at Phipps Conservatory, what a classic and outstanding place, and the rest of your Pittsburgh mentions brought even more memories. My senior year outing in High School was on the river in that party boat – or perhaps a cousin thereof…was there only one? And you worked on it? Changing the subject, has the heat in your neck of the woods finally moderated? I’m in the Boston suburbs and we have had incredible thunderstorms the past week, but your flooding looks so much worse. Take care, stay cool, stay dry. Thanks for the great post today.

    1. I worked on the boats in 1971. At that time, there were only three, The Gateway Clipper, the Party Liner (much larger) and the Good Ship Lollipop. I mainly worked on the Party Liner which I renamed the Allegheny Essence in my books, in case they didn’t like the associations with my characters. We had a lot of proms and parties on there.

It has gotten cooler here starting yesterday. We had powerful storms at the end of the week, but it looks like a good week coming up. The CT River was still flirting with flood stage at Great River Park on Friday, but I think it’s back within its banks now.

I hope you have a nice cool week ahead.

      1. Thanks, Dan. I was on one of those boats in 70 – either the Clipper or the Party Liner. Hmm. And now that you mention that one of them is pseudonymously mentioned in your books, I’m going to have to read them. Which should I go for first? And thanks for the good weather wishes – hoping the favorable forecast holds for CT, too.

        1. The “party liner” is mentioned in all three books, but Knuckleheads is set in the 60s and 70s.

  15. When I first saw the picture of the crow on the lamp post my mind conjured up a picture of a wild boar jumping over a rock. Not too bizarre! I love the picture of the lamp posts in the fog. So many kinds of creepy… I love it!

    1. I like that interpretation, Pam. It’s fun to think of. The lamp posts in the fog is my favorite. I’m thinking about turning it into a cover image for a mystery I’m working on.

  22. Hi Dan – probably a good thing it’s cooled down … the dark poorly lit street reminds me of The Third Man series … and John Le Carre … as too when I was in Prague back in the cold war days: + brought back memories of fictional horror stories. But that taxi telephone box/paler than the Dr Who box needs to be retained (hope so) … also I too thought the crow was a warthog … cheers Hilary

    1. Hi Hilary. It is very good that it’s cooled down around here. Hopefully the temperature will stay near the normal levels. The dark path has got a lot of people thinking about scenarios – including me. I do like the tax booth, and I do think of Dr Who. I’m glad you enjoyed looking through the gallery. I hope you have a great week.
