Welcome to Thursday Doors! This is a weekly challenge for people who love doors and architecture to come together to admire and share their favorite door photos, drawings, or other images or stories from around the world. If you’d like to join us, simply create your own Thursday Doors post each (or any) week and then share a link to your post in the comments below, anytime between 12:01 am Thursday morning and Saturday noon (North American eastern time). If you like, you can add our badge to your post.

Note: There will be No Thursday Doors next week, August 10th, and no recap on Sunday August 13th. I will put a placeholder post here, in case anyone has missed the warnings and for those few who post regardless. Those posts will be included in the recap on August 20th. Thursday Doors will return on Thursday August 17th.

This week, I have gathered doors from a few places, Hartford, Connecticut, Old Sturbridge Village in Massachusetts and New York City, New York. These have been collected this summer during a couple excursions I haven’t written about (yet). I think you can expect a few more leftovers when Thursday Doors returns.

Please take a few minutes to explore doors from some of the other participants this week. If not today, please check the Thursday Doors Recap on Sunday.

If you are in a hurry and don’t wish to scroll through the comments, click to Jump to the comment form.

All five of my current books are now available in audio book form thanks to Amazon KDP’s Virtual Voice process. The voice is AI generated, but I can honestly say, it’s pretty darn good. The audio books are reasonably priced (all below $7 US) and, if you already own the Kindle version and want to add an audio version, you can do that for $1.99. There is a five-minute sample on the book page for each book. If you’re interested, click on any of the Dreamer’s Alliance book links below the image or on the link below for my latest book.

    1. Thanks Wayne. That squirrel is quite the acrobat, but he lets us know when he’s hungry. I haven’t been into that bar, but it looks like a rockin place.

Your post made me smile today!

    1. Thanks Willow. That squirrel cracks us up. We hear this big thud, and he’s out there on the mailbox and it’s still rocking a little from side to side. He jumps on it from the rain gutter (we haven’t figured out how he gets up there). Mardy Gras does some crazy advertising. The leprechaun is a new item, but it does get your attention. I love the new train station! It’s been years since they first started talking about it. It opened during Covid. This was my first chance to visit.

        1. The old station in that par tof New York, Penn Station (still open, across the street) is a horrible pace to be. I read that they are going to remodel that over the next few yeas. This new station is so nice.

This squirrel is such a character.

More doors from Lincoln this week, building up to some better ones in the weeks to come.

You are building us up for quite the tour from Lincoln. I hope you can hold out for two weeks.

  12. I’m with all the above — a great assortment of photos. I think my favorite door is the one to the root cellar, but the piggery has its charm too! What a contrast to the Train Hall. I wonder if squirrel parents teach their squirrel kids how to look so pathetic and peanut-worthy. That mud won’t let anyone forget this summer’s weather.

    Liked by 1 person

    1. The piggery is the newest building at Old Sturbridge. They worked on it for a couple of years. We were glad to see it completed. We had a squirrel that used to bang open the mailbox door. We called him Stevie (our mailman’s name was Steve). We started calling this guy Little Stevie but he grew and now we just call him Junior. He does seem to be a descendant of the original acrobat. They all have that look – so hard to resist. The mud has finally washed away or been washed away from the fixtures by the crews, but the landscape will show evidence of flooding for months.

Great collection today! First Sammy pretending he’s the mail carrier, waiting to open the mailbox door and find peanuts inside for him to deliver…to himself! Then Sammy peeking around the corner, probably looking for MiMi. And the clincher is MiMi looking out the door hoping to see Sammy!

Love the gate on the house in Hartford, and the roof extending down creating an overhang.

I like the door to the root cellar in Old Sturbridge. It looks like what we had at the home I grew up in, but ours originally was for the coal delivery.

Looking at the photo of that lamppost at Great River Park, I can’t even imagine the water that high!

Another beautiful day here, rain tomorrow. This has been a wonderful reprieve from the incessant rain, heat and humidity, not to mention mold, mildew, ginormous weeds, bugs from another world and funky mushrooms!

    Enjoy your day.

    Ginger

    1. MiMi does like watching when Sammy and Smokey are on the porch. We have to go out the side door and walk around to toss them their peanuts.

Your description of our summer artifacts is perfect, Ginger. Especially the “bugs from another world and funky mushrooms.”

We’ve had worse flooding some years, in the spring, but this is as bad as I’ve ever seen it flooding in the park in summer. I’ve never seen them have to remove the boat dock. I hope we stay on the cool side for a while.

We always start our visits to Old Sturbridge Village at the Small House – it’s the first building you come to after leaving the Welcome Center – but I’ve never noticed the root cellar door before. We usually go in and out the front door, but this time, they had the side door open for exiting. I love it when we find new things.

Enjoy the rest of this week and I hope you have a great weekend.

    Liked by 1 person

    1. The Small House is the first building we pass at Old Sturbridge Village. We almost always stop there, unless there’s a crowd. They were telling us about what life would be like in there in the 1830s. Suffice it to say, not many creature comforts. I think I could have handed the squirrel on the mailbox a peanut, but I don’t think we want to start feeding them by hand. That’s funny that one would run up your leg.

  18. Oh what cute pics of the squirrels! I have to ask though, what’s a piggery. Is it a pig farm?

    Liked by 1 person

    1. According to the folks at Old Sturbridge Village, Kim, “Farmers built piggeries, or hog houses, as dedicated and efficient spaces in which to raise swine.” They’ve been rebuilding this one for a couple years. It just opened this past spring.
