Once again, Cee has enticed me to join two of her challenges. However, unlike last week, I’m going to handle the both in this one post. It’s ironic that this week’s Cee’s Which Way Challenge is “Rails” because last week went off the rails after I joined CWWC. Now, don’t read anything negative into that last sentence. Everything that happened last week was great. I added a CWWC post on Tuesday–the same day Sally Cronin introduced my latest novel (Secrets Held Against Evil) and included a wonderful review of the previous book (When Evil Chooses You). Then, on Wednesday, John Howell shared his blog in support of Secrets Held Against Evil.

Along with all those great things, I took advantage of a sunny, dry week to do some necessary work on our rain gutters before leaves start falling with gusto. The result? I fell behind reading blogs and even replying to comments on my blog and Sally’s and John’s. While I don’t have any launch posts scheduled this week, I still have work on those gutters, so I’m sticking with my normal M-W-Th-Sa schedule this week. Now, let’s get to Cee’s challenges.

Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge this week is, in Cee’s words: “…our topic is either Winter or Water. Please feel free to use archived photos for this challenge. Note: I want to see winter where you live no matter what the weather is.”

Her Which Way Challenge is: “…Any type of Handrails, Rails, Runways, Ski Lifts, Elevators, Hot Air Balloons, etc.”

I think I can find some photos in the archive.

All five of my current books are now available in audio book form thanks to Amazon KDP’s Virtual Voice process. The voice is AI generated, but I can honestly say, it’s pretty darn good. The audio books are reasonably priced (all below $7 US) and, if you already own the Kindle version and want to add an audio version, you can do that for $1.99. There is a five-minute sample on the book page for each book. If you’re interested, click on any of the Dreamer’s Alliance book links below the image or on the link below for my latest book.

  3. Love the images of that Incline, Dan! I came for the Bunny and was not disappointed!

    1. Thanks Babsje. I figured you’d like the incline. It’s one of the best thing on rails. I try to accommodate the bunny lovers. We also love seeing them.

    1. I think we have plenty of time to prepare, Judy. At least I hope so. If the precipitation continues at the rate it’s been going around here, we could be in trouble.

  5. Handrail looks great, as does my bunny.

    1. The handrail will be joined by another on the other side, but that railing system is coming down. It will stay on the porch, but it’s coming off the ramp. It’s hard to grab, not quite strong enough to make you feel safe, and each one of those balusters has to be power-washed on all four sides! The bunny stays ;-)

    1. We’re not quite ready for snow, either, but we’re working on it. I love chilly winter scenes. I’m glad you liked these.

  8. Your photos often make me wonder why an image works the way it does. This time I found myself stopped by the photo of ice and snow on the river, with the bare trees and the white houses up the hill in the distance. It pulled me in. Why? I don’t know. The image of the rails going off to a disappearing curve is also compelling to me. There are one or two things about snow that I hate, but looking at it is wonderful.

    1. I’m not sure why they work, Maureen. I do know they appeal to me. I love winter scenes, especially now that I don’t have to get up, clear the snow and drive to work. Ice and snow on rivers and lakes has always fascinated me.

    1. 10:00, Jan. I’ll be out there at 10:00, after it warms up just a bit. The squirrels run across ice and hard-crusted snow like it’s nothing to worry about.

  12. Exquisite photos, Dan. I’m adjusting to Fall, so seeing your icy images makes me shudder. It seems like only yesterday — says everyone over the age of 60. 😄 Enjoy the sunshine!

    1. Thanks Gwen. I know winter is coming. I think we have enough time to get ready. Today was the first day I could see my breath while walking. The 10-day forecast is for lows in the 40s and highs in the 60s. That’s good weather to work outside.

          1. I finally told them I had given them everything (screenshots etc) and I’m tired of supplying information and getting back juvenile suggestions like checking to see if this or that box is unchecked. I then said several sites couldn’t log on and they wanted urls. Told them I was done. Figure it out or don’t but no more from me.

  18. That first photo is so cute. We are at 49 degrees this morning so it feels like snow weather here. 😆
When I had to travel for work, one hotel I stayed at had a glass elevator and I loved it. Yours looks a little more precarious, though. I might have taken the stairs, there…

    1. That little squirrel camped out in that tree all winter. I haven’t seen her back in there this summer, but I’m hoping she’ll move back in soon. It was 48 here this morning. Normal for us, but no so normal for you I would think. That elevator was in the remnants of the flour mill in Minneapolis that was destroyed by a flour dust explosion. The elevator is necessary because I think the stairs are inaccessible.

  19. Nice photos, Dan, although I hope winter stays away for the next two months. I had to turn the heat on yesterday morning and it appears we are stuck with highs in the 50’s for the immediate future. We skipped the autumn 60F temps altogether!

    1. We’re cycling between lows in the 40s and highs in the 60s. I hope it stay like this through November. We’ve had the heat on for a week, but we haven’t needed it much. Good luck tonight!

    1. That squirrel camped out in that hole last winter. She got used to me, and the fact that I sometimes have peanuts. I fell like the Uber Eats guy. I loved both challenges this week. Some of my favorite things.

  25. I heard a bit on NPR last night about a Fat Bear Contest they have every year in Alaska. Around this time, the bears start to gorge themselves to get ready for winter and (I guess) people bet on which one will gain the most weight. I can imagine getting them on a scale so I have no idea how they determine the winner. Anyway, I thought of the story when I saw your pictures of the bunny and the squirrels… I bet they are working on gaining a few ounces before the winter, and I’m sure they appreciate your contributions to their efforts.
