Welcome to Thursday Doors! This is a weekly challenge for people who love doors and architecture to come together to admire and share their favorite door photos, drawings, or other images or stories from around the world. If you’d like to join us, simply create your own Thursday Doors post each (or any) week and then share a link to your post in the comments below, anytime between 12:01 am Thursday morning and Saturday noon (North American eastern time). If you like, you can add our badge to your post.

Over the course of the last few weeks, we have had some people sharing doors for Thursday Doors for the first time. That’s a wonderful thing! I thought it might be a good time to refresh our understanding of the parameters of this challenge.

  • Participants are asked to link their Thursday Doors post in a comment below. While pingbacks will work for many of you, they only work from WordPress blogs. I’d like to add that although I do scan my inbox for alerts about your posts, comments in this post guarantees that I will see your post and that it will be included in the Sunday Recap.
  • You can link to your post any time between 12:01 am Thursday and noon Saturday (both US eastern time).
  • If you do want to link to my post, but schedule your post so it will appear early, use the link available shown in the widget on the right sidebar. The link will be visible on Wednesday, although the link won’t work until 12:01 am Thursday. Note: If you include the link and schedule your post before 12:01 US Eastern Time, the will work, but it will NOT create a pingback. So, you have to include it again in a comment to get picked up by the Recap.
  • I ask that contributors focus on doors, but photos of the surrounding architecture and broader setting are certainly welcome. Also, we accept a broad definition of the word ‘door’ – So, have fun with these posts.
  • As the number of challenges has increased across the blogging world, I have relaxed the conditions so that Thursday Doors post can be combined with other challenges. Again, blogging should be fun.
  • Thursday Doors is a place to relax; a sanctuary of doors, architecture, art and history. Government buildings are welcome – political messages are not. Churches, synagogues, mosques, and temples are welcome – proselytizing is not. History is welcome – revisionist history is not. Humor is welcome as long as it is not at the expense of any person or group.
  • Anyone can post any and every week. There is no membership, no commitment and no upper or lower limit on the number of doors in your post.

I hope you’ve picked up that the most important thing about this challenge is to have fun while showcasing doors. I also hope you have a chance to check out some of the doors offered by the participants. As usual, if you can’t get to them all today, check back on Sunday for the Recap – nothing but doors, in an easy to use table.

All five of my current books are now available in audio book form thanks to Amazon KDP’s Virtual Voice process. The voice is AI generated, but I can honestly say, it’s pretty darn good. The audio books are reasonably priced (all below $7 US) and, if you already own the Kindle version and want to add an audio version, you can do that for $1.99. There is a five-minute sample on the book page for each book. If you’re interested, click on any of the Dreamer’s Alliance book links below the image or on the link below for my latest book.

  4. Excellent photos Dan. I am a big fan of painted walles/mural/ etc. So I Iove the vibrant artwork on the walls in Morgantown! Stewart Hall is a grand-looking building.
My absolute favorite, is the bar where you found fried shrimp and mushrooms! The weathered look to the door and building contrasted with the beautiful sky you captured is awesome!

    1. Thanks Suzette. I’m glad you liked that bar door. The place certainly wasn’t fancy, but it had an interesting vibe, and the food was good. I liked the murals, and since so many people liked the one I shared last week, I thought I’d fit them all in.

That’s a strange sign… It tells two things. You have to be over 21 to enter and you can smoke if you want! Hahahahaha!

I’m so used to seeing “No Smoking” signs that I wasn’t sure I was reading it correctly. Neither my brother nor I smoke, but the place wasn’t crowded yet, so we weren’t forced out by second hand smoke. The food was good.

    1. Thanks Ginger. I don’t know what to say about that sign, either, except that we were glad to be there early in the day, before the room was filled with smoke. I remember those days and have no desire to return to them. I guess a lot of people do.

I have no idea how people paint murals like that. I know, these days, they use projectors to guide them through smaller murals, but these were done long before that was possible.

Stewart Hall is an amazing building. I was glad to see that I still had one view I hadn’t shared. I always try to find a flag to include in the gallery.

I do know what pierogy is/are, though that’s not the way my family spelled it (not that we spent time spelling it; we were mostly about eating it). That entrance to Stewart Hall is most imposing; it must make freshmen feel particularly small. About that Burger King: I suspect some people would call those cars “vintage,” and, come to think of it, they’d probably call the whole thing “vintage.” I have no idea why. What a great photo!

    1. During the 7th inning stretch, four people dress up in pierogi costumes and race along the warning track from 3rd base to the right field foul pole. I should blog about that and the donut race at Dunkin Stadium in Hartford. One of those poor slobs has to dress as a cup of coffee. Some might call that vintage but I remember both the cars and restaurants. Stewart Hall is imposing. Especially since it sits up above the action.
