It’s Saturday. We’re here at the bar, but not for the event we were planning—I’ll get to that. We’ve been having some unusually warm weather here in Connecticut. Today’s high temperature will be 80°f (27°c) but tomorrow, the high will be 50°f (10°c). That’s a bit of a shift. All that aside, we are here at the bar and we have Linda G. Hill’s Stream of Consciousness Saturday prompt to keep us occupied.

Well, there’s an ‘oo’ in monsoon.

If we were having a beer, you’d be confused.

“Dan, I thought Damyanti was joining us.”

“That was the plan, David, but she took ill, and she was traveling, so I suggested that we could postpone her visit.”

“I’m sorry to hear that she’s not feeling well. Was her book released?”

“Yes, it was. Didn’t you get your copy?”

“Uh…”

“David. I thought you said you preordered this book?”

“OK, Dan, before you read David the riot act, can I get your drink orders. This unexpected heatwave has the patio crawling with customers.”

“Our orders? Cheryl, it’s me, Dan, and David. One ice cold Modelo and a John Howell’s Special.”

“I’ll get right to them.”

“Thanks, Cheryl. Now, David—what’s the story?”

“I forgot when Damyanti’s book was going to drop. I knew she was scheduled to be here today—I did order The Blue Monsoon—I just forgot to preorder.”

“As long as you get it and read it—it’s excellent!”

“Did you finish it already?”

“Yes and no.”

“OK, Dan. I know I’m in the doghouse here, but I hate when you answer a question like that.”

“I know, David, but sometimes it is the answer. I read a pre-release copy of The Blue Monsoon from the publisher. I’m currently reading the released copy. So, yes, I finished, and no, I haven’t.”

“Ok, ok, I’ll let it slide this time, but fill me in. We had a schedule of three visits in three weeks. What’s the schedule now.”

“Well, Teagan will be here next week, as originally planned. Damyanti will be here any Saturday after that that she prefers.”

“That’s cool. I have Teagan’s new book. I should be able to finish it before next Saturday. Have you read that one?”

“Yes. In fact, I finished it yesterday. It’s excellent.”

“I’ll get moving. Now, since I paid last week…”

“This is your week to pay, David. That was our agreement. I’d pay during the visits, you pay in the other weeks.”

“Yes, Dan, but Cheryl was visiting last week, and I paid.”

“You lost a bet—that doesn’t count.”

“Ah, I knew that, but I thought I could slip one past you.”

“You should know better than that, David.”

All five of my current books are now available in audio book form thanks to Amazon KDP’s Virtual Voice process. The voice is AI generated, but I can honestly say, it’s pretty darn good. The audio books are reasonably priced (all below $7 US) and, if you already own the Kindle version and want to add an audio version, you can do that for $1.99. 1. Sorry to hear that Damyanti is ill. It looks like you got her book and you’re reading and not reading it, Dan. And you’ll have Teagan here next week. How fun! Have a wonderful weekend. I’m kind of having a cold so I’m taking it easy.

  2. What beautiful captures of autumn fog! And the trees are splendid. It’s too bad that Damyanti is not well; I am hearing of lots of sickness these days so I’m thinking this oddly warm autumn is encouraging to some bugs. I hope she recovers well. Meanwhile, I am sure you know what song you (and Linda) have stuck in my head for the day, and I will look forward to Teagan’s visit next week.

    1. Thanks Maureen. I, too, hope Damyanti is feeling better soon. As for the song, before my D’oh moment of realizing that ‘Monsoon’ had ‘oo’, I was thinking about two songs. ‘O-O-Child’ by The Five Stairsteps and ‘Shine on Harvest Moon’ (my mother was a big fan of musicals).

      1. I haven’t thought about ‘O-O-Child’ in ages. I loved that song.

      2. Musicals in my family had greatly to do with Jeanette McDonald and Nelson Eddy. Wow, talk about oooooo’s — how about “When I’m Calling Youooo–oooo–ooooo”? Despite that, have a good weekend, Dan!

David that was sneaky about the bill but you’ll have to get up earlier to catch Dan out!

    1. Thanks Willow. I’m sure Damyanti appreciates the good wishes. I am milking the autumn photos while they last. They are falling from the trees at a pretty good clip right now. David can be a bit of a trickster, and it is the season, but no, it was his day to pay.

  4. It was 80℉ here yesterday and will be 77℉ today, and then it drops to 49-52℉. Yesterday, we were working on reinforcing a side barn door from the inside before winter, and I was working in a t-shirt. I even picked a few raspberries for snack while I was mowing. It was wonderful and strange at the same time. Enjoy today before we switch out the lawn mowers for the snowblowers. :-)

    1. That was the conversation we had last night, Judy, whether it’s safe to pack the lawn mowers away and give the snowblower center stage in the shed. We cut the grass short for the winter last week. I don’t think we’ll need to cut it again. If it grows, the bunnies can munch away. I painted the trim on the side door to the garage yesterday. I was getting hot.

  5. Crazy hot weather here too. We’ll be 80 today and drop into the low 40’s tomorrow. It’s nuts.

  7. This is kooky weather we’ve been having. Lots of rain and soon the temps will drop 40 degrees! By the time we hit the road next week the high will be 50’s and the lows in the 30’s. Never ready for that! Sorry your guest was I’ll, hopefully she’s back to visit soon!

    1. 70s and 80s to 30s and 50s is quite a jump. At least you can keep pointing yourselves to some place warm. We’re waiting for whatever Mother Nature sends our way. We’ll get back on schedule here.

  9. Hi Dan – thanks for the note on your previous post about Damyanti not being here today – the main thing is she will be here at some stage; but I’m not surprised re being ill Singapore is a completely different temperature to you .. humidity too. Our temp went from hot to cool when my boiler decided to misbehave – such is life … it’s ok now – but I’m still uncertain … it’s been playing up. Cheers and I’m looking forward to the interview … I did order mine and it turned up within 24 hours! Now to read … I love her authorship – so I’m sure it’ll be a good read must finish Diahgilev first … Hilary

    1. It is a good story, Hilary. I do enjoy reading Damyanti’s writing, I always have. We’ve had a wild week of warm weather, but cooler temps and rain are on the way. I hope everything with your boiler is sorted out and ready for winter.

So sorry that Damyanti is ill. Hope she has an easy and uneventful recovery.

When it comes to your tree photos, they’re all so beautiful. Gotta love the Cosmos and Tithonias for their perseverance. But Linus’ Pumpkin Patch takes the Blue Ribbon. Now that’s grit at its finest.

MiMi at her lookout station. Perhaps she’s hoping to see some really early trick-or-treaters! 🤗

Old Glory surrounded by the bleak fog makes an exceptional photo. Love it.

I mowed yesterday. Last time this year? 🤔 It was so hot I was sweating. And I apparently disturbed some insects because they feasted on me. Ewwwww!

Hope you and the Editor have a wonderful weekend.

    1. Thanks Ginger. We (hope we) mowed for the last time, because I’m putting the mowers off to the side and moving the snowblower into the center, facing the door. I still have a few bits of winter prep to take care of, I need to get the snow stakes in so I don’t chew up the thngs we planted.

MiMi keeps careful watch, but she doesn’t care for visitors. I think the Great Pumpkin will rise from this patch – it’s as sincere as it gets. Linus worked hard, and those pumpkins are the only things that ever grew in that part of the yard.

I’ll keep looking for fall color, although it’s dropping all around us.. I hope you have a good weekend. Stay cool, then warm ;-)

    1. Sick and traveling has to be the worst combination ever. I hope she recovers quickly. We’re looking forward to your visit next week. I’m hoping to catch a glimpse of the Great Pumpkin as he rises above Linus’ pumpkin patch. The little guy was quite sincere in his efforts. At one point, we had over 20 pumpkin plants around the yard.

  17. I like all the morning photos, Dan. As you know, that’s my time of day, just before the sun peeks over the horizon and just after. Of course now that time is much later than in the summer so theoretically I can sleep in longer. I wish. Anyway, happy Saturday. The monsoon season in Arizona is very important because we get much of our small amount of rain then. “Monsoon” sounds much rainier than it actually is, but every little bit is appreciated.

David–kudos to him for trying to confuse you. He does make me laugh.
The fog photos are so pretty. And your colorful trees are beautiful! Linus would be so proud of that adorable little pumpkin patch. The leaves look bigger than the pumpkins, which just adds to the cuteness factor. Enjoy the rest of the weekend, Dan!
