Welcome to Thursday Doors! This is a weekly challenge for people who love doors and architecture to come together to admire and share their favorite door photos, drawings, or other images or stories from around the world. If you’d like to join us, simply create your own Thursday Doors post each (or any) week and then share a link to your post in the comments below, anytime between 12:01 am Thursday morning and Saturday noon (North American eastern time). If you like, you can add our badge to your post.

The doors in today’s gallery were collected on a day when many things had to be done. Kind of a day-in-the-life kind of post. It began with a haircut and moved on through a series of things that had to be picked up. Nothing particularly important, but I found some interesting doors in Hartford (haircut) and while driving around.

One place of interest is the Connecticut Fire Academy. Paid and volunteer firemen and women from across the state come here to train. The main building has accommodations for students, classrooms, lecture halls and a cafeteria. The building has also been used by our town and school system for meetings. I have been inside, and it is impressive. Equally impressive is the structures dedicated to live fire training.

The rest of the buildings are described in the captions.

In addition to enjoying the gallery, I hope you have a chance to visit some of the doors presented by the other participants. Without them, this challenge would be quite boring. If you can’t visit them today, check back on Sunday for the weekly recap.

All five of my current books are now available in audio book form thanks to Amazon KDP’s Virtual Voice process. The voice is AI generated, but I can honestly say, it’s pretty darn good. The audio books are reasonably priced (all below $7 US) and, if you already own the Kindle version and want to add an audio version, you can do that for $1.99. There is a five-minute sample on the book page for each book. If you’re interested, click on any of the Dreamer’s Alliance book links below the image or on the link below for my latest book.

  1. Lots of buildings for sure, it is funny why some appeal more, for me it was the place to be and at the south end one.

    1. The Place 2 Be caught my eye. What’s funny, is that that building has been there forever but never seemed interesting. Now that it changed hands, I was drawn to it.

  11. Lots of personality in these errand doors, and lots of hard workers going in and out over the years, I’m guessing. However, I must complain about that missing shutter, and I hope the First and Last has that replaced by now. Those of us who love symmetry get a toothache from such things. Usually I prefer older churches, but this one I like a lot. The training facilities are very impressive, but even more impressive is 42 years with the same barber!

    Liked by 2 people

    1. I was wondering if anyone would notice the missing shutter – I should have known… I had the same thought about the modern church (sorry I forgot to get its name). I usually ignore modern churches, but I liked this one. 42 years ago, within a period of about an hour, I met my barber, my best friend, and the woman I would marry. A friend calls it my trifecta.

      Liked by 1 person

      1. No! What a story — and you told it in one sentence! Talk about flash fiction! Title: Trifecta, of course! LOL at “should have known.” Yep. That’s me. I know there is balance without symmetry, and I look for that too, but symmetry is particularly reassuring to me. New England is good at it.

Love the Place 2 be… what a charming and inviting building and name.

My favorite is the square building with the corner door. Excellent how you framed that photo, including the power lines that seem to highlight the lines in the building.

    1. Thanks Suzette. I sometimes try to get a photo without the wires, but there was no way to do that. The Place 2 Be (the building) has been around a long time, but the name is new and it finally caught my eye.

I rarely like a “modern” church building, but this one is an exception. Love the name “First and Last Tavern”.

They grow their houses big in Hartford, don’t they! Your little SUV must’ve been shaking in its rims next to that big guy!

My little Kia Sportage was quite nervous. While I was loading, another truck pulled in and needed the door I was parked at. I didn’t stop for a picture because I thought he might just back over me.

  26. Dan, I really enjoyed this fun theme for a Doors post. Seeing the barber shop you’ve mentioned so many times is an added bonus. That church fascinates me. It makes me imagine a syfy movie for some reason — futuristic looking I guess. I’m not sure I would have noticed that corner door on the nondescript building. Though I’m not sure what to imagine inside, I know that wall (door or windows in upper floors) must create some interesting interior details. Well done. Hugs.

    1. Interesting details as in, “We can’t put the couch on either wall.” Well, that would be my luck. I don’t usually have anyone in front of me when I get my haircut at 7:30 am. This was the first time in a very long time that I had to sit and wait. Of course I’m snapping pictures.

Sounds like I should put that church in next year’s writing challenge ;-)

It might just be the OCD in me, but that awning on TP2B is crooked, is it not? I kept looking back at that photo waiting for it to right itself. 🤣

    1. Yes to both, Italian restaurants. My barber’s shop is located in what, for a long time, was Hartford’s Italian district. Famous for restaurants, bakeries and cafes. People have moved on, and it more a mix of culture today. When I moved here, in 1981, they still had an Italian festival every August. My barber is originally from Sicily.

I love the view from the top of the castle, and the scenes and sights on the way down.
