I have some news regarding two problems I’ve/you’ve been having. The first bit is good news for those of you having problems navigating the gallery slide shows. On Sunday morning, I received the following from WordPress:

“This is a known issue which our developers have fixed. The new version containing the fix should be deployed early next week.”

Happiness Engineer

In the meantime, John Hric, from a Northeast Ohio Garden, says he can navigate the slideshow using the arrow keys.

The second problem I have been having is in scheduling and updating posts. Once I have the post prepared (or updated), I push the appropriate button and it never stops “spinning.” Oddly enough, the post does get scheduled or updated, but it’s a pain for me to figure that out. I’ve tried all the Happiness Engineer’s suggestions except for one – changing my blog theme. I am going to try that between now and January 3rd.

During this time, you may see some posts called “Test” in your inbox, which you can certainly ignore. You might also see some posts that look different. I plan to participate in Linda G. Hill’s One-Liner Wednesday and Saturday Stream of Consciousness, but with abbreviated posts. As I mentioned before, I will be scheduling a “placeholder” post on Thursdays, for those people who feel the urge/need to post a door. I will not be including any doors and I won’t be paying too much attention to comments.

Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge for this past week has been “The Color Blue.” Please check out the gallery – I hope it works. Since I normally join Cee’s challenge on Monday, I will likely skip the next two challenges.

All five of my current books are now available in audio book form thanks to Amazon KDP’s Virtual Voice process. The voice is AI generated, but I can honestly say, it’s pretty darn good. The audio books are reasonably priced (all below $7 US) and, if you already own the Kindle version and want to add an audio version, you can do that for $1.99. There is a five-minute sample on the book page for each book. If you’re interested, click on any of the Dreamer’s Alliance book links below the image or on the link below for my latest book.

  1. Speaking of issues, I have problems (not always) while commenting on your blog. For instance, I type a comment and suddenly there is a typo, now when I hit backspace it won’t let me. and it won’t type another new word. The cursor keeps blinking. So, I have to do Ctrl + A (select all) and then Delete. I type the entire comment in the Notepad and then copy-paste. It had happened a few times earlier, but not while writing this comment because I purposely made a few errors and did a backspace and it worked just fine.

    1. WordPress has been having tons of problems with comments, Sharukh. I hope they will gradually work through this.

  2. I use the arrow to scroll through the galleries, and I don’t have any problem with that, but I can’t get all the text sometimes. I used to be able to. A great collection of blues, and impressive captures of the bluejay. Another handsome porch! I was intrigued by the Bluecurl so looked it up. Also called Fiddleneck. What great names! A little botanical education with coffee this morning — thank you!

    1. I appreciate your making the attempt, Maureen. There are so many problems and deficiencies with the various galleries, I want to do a post just to highlight them. I have been complaining/asking for help on galleries for almost two years. IT just hasn’t gotten any better. I’m glad Fiddleneck is a flower name and not my nickname ‘Old man Fiddleneck” doesn’t sound very nice ;-)

  3. The slide show worked perfectly! All the photos are excellent. Love the Blue Jay waiting patiently on the gate. An amazing fire truck paint job!

  4. One must always maintain their sense of humor. I could scroll through the photos with ease, but then I tried to click the ‘X’ to leave and it took me multiple tries and then it took me to my own WordPress dashboard. My theme is old, but I’ve been afraid to change it in case I incur a ton of other issues. Good luck, and I’ll be reading to see how it goes.

    1. That’s exactly what happened the last time I changed themes, Judy. Unfortunately, I did it the day before a post and I spend hours trying to get back to where I had been. I finally changed to this theme the following week. I’ve been afraid to make the attempt again, but I need to rule it out as the cause of the problem I’m having.

  5. I have that never ending spinning issue as well. Not every time, but often enough for it to be annoying.
Now talk about these recurring Blues Brothers. What’s that about…

    1. I think a week or two before seeing Jake and Elwood at Midway Airport, we saw them in the cafe of an antique mall. Recently, I spotted them at the entrance to a nearby pub.

You certainly covered the color blue very nicely. My favorite is the Bluejay! Love the Forked Bluecurls too! Your short walk in the rain is great, and that blue warning sign sure stands out. Nice blue house.

    But the Blues Brothers!!! Lol!

Old Glory looks good even surrounded by shades of blue.

Still raining here. Due to stop around 1pm. Hope your area dries out quickly. Thank goodness this wasn’t snow!

BTW, I had no problem scrolling or using the slide show to view gallery. Ginger

    1. Thanks Ginger. I’m glad you like the photos, and I appreciate your reporting in on the gallery issue.

Cee said to have fun with the prompt, so The Blues Brothers had to be included.

We’ve got rain and a hard wind here. I think I’m staying inside for a while.

Stay safe and dry. I hope you have a nice week.

    1. Thanks! It doesn’t look good for a white Christmas, but we’ll take what comes. It’s the day itself that counts.

  13. Nice collection of the ‘blues’, Dan. I half expected there to be a youtube link to ‘Blue Moon’ at the end. 😊You know I love the egrets and herons. And the jay in flight is great. Good luck with the new theme. I look forward to seeing what you come up with.

    1. Thanks Cheryl. Wanting a home page with snippets of recent posts, a sidebar I can put on the right, the ability to add some custom CSS and fonts and colors I can live with usually bring it down to only a few choices. If possible, I’d like one developed by WordPress, so that last longer as changes are made on the platform.

      1. I hope you get all you want. Your place is a hub so you have different needs than me. The one I just changed to highlights the current post which is good for poetry, photography, etc.

  14. My hope is that I never have to change my theme, so good luck with yours, Dan.
John is a genius for the ‘arrow’ trick. Works like a charm! I still have to exit your blog, after I have viewed all the photos, to post a comment, but that is the least of my worries. Oh, those HE’s–the fix ‘should be’ deployed by next week. Maybe. We don’t know, but it should be…gotta laugh!

    1. John was great to share that nugget. Have you tried hitting the Escape key to exit the slide show? That works for me on Manja’s blog where I can’t get out of the gallery.

      1. Yes!!! I just tried the Escape key and it works! Who needs the HE’s?! We got this! Thanks, Dan.

        1. They ignored my first attempt to get an answer. They told me to tell readers to “clear the cache…ect). Then, when I complained again, they said, “Oh yeah, we know about that. we already fixed it.”

          1. They have some nerve calling themselves Happiness Engineers, tell you what. All they do is make changes and give us headaches.

  16. Just a few moments ago, I encountered a slide show that had the arrows-it was great to go through it. Apparently they’ve ‘fixed’ the previous issue. Hurray, now if only they’d return the link after the like button for a quick trip to the comment box rather than making people scroll down through the post to leave it. Oh well…one acorn at a time, eh? Happy Monday.

  17. Dan, thanks for being our WordPress advocate. (LOL, I accidentally had a typo — WartPress… maybe a Freudian slip! I should have left it that way!)
Heartfelt thanks for mentioning “Brother Love: a Crossroad”. It’s always fun to remember Jinx the magpie. A great selection of blues. Hugs.

  19. Kudos to you for advising everyone who is working through those WP issues, Dan. Blue is well-represented here. Hopefully, switching to another theme will not result in a “Blue Christmas.” I am hoping it all goes well and in time, you wind up being as happy with another one than the one you are moving on from.

  28. I encountered no problems when viewing your photos, Dan. They all load and work fine for me.

Regarding the little spinning icon, I’ve found that it seems to stop and go through if I refresh the page. I get the same issue sometimes when I’ve drafted a post and get a message saying, ‘You have unsaved changes’ even though I’ve clicked ‘save.’ I leave the post and go back in to find all my changes have been saved.

I look forward to seeing your new theme. Well done on taking the plunge. I plan to do so soon, too.

    1. The engineers have been working with me, Hugh, I have an old (technical) blog, and I don’t have any problems with it. That’s why I think it might be the theme, although the engineers were able to update one of my posts. They also had me download the desktop App. I prefer the browser view, but the app does work. I’ll let you know how the upgrade goes (and if it helps).
