It’s Saturday. It’s raining. Does this sound like a repeat post? It’s not cold enough for snow, but we are getting dumped on from above. Fortunately, David and I have rain gear and understand the importance of supporting tradition. So, we gather at the bar to relax, dry out for a while and wrestle with Linda G. Hill’s Stream of Consciousness Saturday prompt:

Linda G. Hill

If we were having a beer, you’d have one question for me.

“So, Dan. It seems your ready to close up shop on your January goal.”

“Which goal would that be, David?”

“Whoa. You guys need to remember the rules. No resolutions, goals, objectives, or intentions are welcome in this place.”

“Why is that, Cheryl?”

“Because sooner or later people always drift toward the thought that eating and drinking less would be a good thing. Now, you want your usual?”

“I get the feeling there’s only one answer, how ‘bout you, Dan? Yes, Cheryl. I’ll have a John Howell’s Special, and my soon-to-be-out-of-the-race buddy will have a cold Modelo Especial.”

“David, other than the beer and bourbon, what are you talking about?”

“I read your reply to Maureen yesterday. You’re giving up on Just Jot January. Is that true?”

“Ah. I see. Well, it’s my pleasure to answer that by saying, yes and no, David.”

“You know I hate that answer.”

“That’s why I said it’s my pleasure.”

“Here you go, bourbon, beer and I threw an order of Teagan’s mushrooms in for each of you.”

“Thanks Cheryl!”

“Cheers, Dan. But is it true?”

“I am going to stop posting every day. That part is true. But Linda is a compassionate host, and she accepts participation by commenting on her blog. I call it Just Jot January by Comment, or JusJoJanByCo, for short.”

“Interesting, but why? You’re almost halfway through the month.”

“I can’t keep it up. I mean, I can, but I don’t want to. I’m not a post-every-day kind of guy. I’m better with four days a week.”

“But uncharacteristically bad at math, you post five days a week.”

“Yes, well I do put up the Thursday Doors Recap on Sunday, but A) that’s a service to the participants in the challenge, and B) it’s mostly an automated process.”

“I see. Kinda like when you come in here and a Modelo appears on the bar.”

“Yes, just like that.”

“But, if they’re ‘Jots’ and you don’t add photos, how much work can it be, Dan?”

“It throws off my timing, and it takes away from other things, like reading other blogs and reading books. I love JusJoJan, but I like the challenge of working it into my regular posts.”

“Cheryl’s doing it – she’s even writing more. She has a whole story going on.”

“I know, David. And Cheryl’s story is a great one, but it’s not working for me.”

“But you’ll still be there—at Linda’s place—every day?”

“Yes, and I won’t rule out writing a post on a Tuesday or a Friday, depending on the prompt.”

“Speaking of writing, how’s that new book coming?”

“It’s coming along well. I’m a little over halfway through.”

“It’s a mystery, right? Do you know who done it?”

“I do not! I keep flitting between possibilities. I wish I had written a butler into the cast of characters.”

“The book features Rascal Todd. Is that still the case?”

“It is. The reporter-cum-reluctant-sleuth is the star of the book, unless you’re a cat lover, then Bonkers gets top billing.”

“But no dreaming and no looking into the future.”

“No, Zack and Billy are sitting this one out.”

“Here you go boys, stuffed mushrooms hot out of the broiler.”

“Those look great, Cheryl. Thanks. Can we get another round to wash them down.”

“Sure. Maybe with enough Modelo, you’ll change your mind about JusJoJan.”

“Ha! I don’t think so, Cheryl. I need to figure out who done it.” “Well, just so long as it isn’t the bartender.”

    1. They know we can’t resist those cute little poses, Suzette. I think they practice in the glass of the front door. I love it when I can capture the flag in reflection in that puddle. Thanks. I hope you’re staying safe and warm this weekend.

Yes, I am not venturing outdoors this weekend..it is minus 52C with wind-chill. I will be nice and toast indoors.

  4. You’ve relieved some guilt on my part because I can’t keep up with my blogging friends who post daily. :-) Hope the new book continues to go well. My daughter described the snow, the rain, the melt, and then the muck. The weather is sure off the charts. Have a good weekend.

    1. That is a big part of the reason, Judy. I’d rather a few posts each week that people look at, than something every day. Then I miss reading some posts that I probably would have enjoyed. Trying for balance. We’re back in the rain today. I think snow is coming Tuesday, but as you know, that’s a long way for an accurate forecast in New England. Have a good weekend.

  5. JusJoJanByCo is an inspired way of gracefully participating by not totally participating. Daily blogging is WORK, even if it is for one month. You’re wise to give up and move on. Plus like Judy said, I feel guilty when I can’t keep up with bloggy friends who post daily. You’ve relieved me of the guilt. Happy Saturday.

    1. You should never feel guilty for not being able to visit. I don’t want to make it harder, but I want to support JusJoJan because I really do like it. Even if I don’t keep up with posting, as January begins, it helps blow away the cobwebs.

  7. I take the first couple of hours in the morning to read everyone’s blogs and sometimes write my own then too. I also read my two newsletters then.
    That’s just me though.
Sorry Teagan, I wish I liked mushrooms, hers look tasty.
Lovely pics and I like the sound of your newest wop! That book I may have to check out.
Finally, doesn’t Linda say you dontbhave to post every day?

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Thanks! Linda does say that, but I always encourage her to run JusJoJot and I feel bad when I drop out. But, I’ll leave a comment or two (five, actually) and hope it still counts. I also primarily read in the morning, but I also set aside time to figure out who done it, in the morning. Time – I have more now than ever and it’s still not enough. I hope you have a good weekend.

  8. It’s good to know that even you can’t do it every day! You seem to have a story in you all the time, even when you’re looking at a leaf, so, if daily blogging is a stretch for you, then I, story-less, don’t have to feel like a laggard (even if I am). Great winter images! I particularly love the one of the squirrel that seems to be contemplating life from your post, and the one of the posts holding hands next to the puddle. Of course the bar dialogue was an excellent kick-start to my day. Thanks!

    1. I’m glad you enjoyed the pictures and us yucking it up at the bar. I’m not really sure how the squirrels get up on those posts. I watch them do it, but it doesn’t seem possible. One just sits and eats in a corner of the porch. I feel like that one a lot of days. I never thought of the posts holding hands – that’s a very nice thought. I hope your day is a good one.

Glad to see you take a stand and get your life back in order. I don’t know how the daily bloggers keep up that pace. And I imagine the Editor would like more time with you when you’re not in front of your computer!

Pictures of puddles and reflections made my day! Always a delight seeing the beggars, especially the last one in the little tree. Soooo cute! That hawk looks like he’s eyeing YOU Dan!🤗

Old Glory couldn’t take a bad picture if she tried. I like the way the first puddle reflected part of the pole!

Hope you enjoy a relaxing weekend Dan. With any luck we’ll all dry out quickly before the temperature drops and turns everything into a skating rink.

    1. Thanks Ginger. The beggars are out in force this morning, making up for lost time due to the rain.

I never thought managing my time in retirement would be hard, but I do find that I have to prioritize things. Also, I;m nervous about showing up in someone’s inbox all the time, I follow some daily bloggers, and it doesn’t bother me, but I don’t read all their posts.

I love puddle reflections and the way thew water gives a clearer image than the sky. I especially like it when that puddle-where I got the flag reflection- is clear and calm.

I hope you have a great weekend. Stay dry and warm as the temp heads back down.

I understand the need to step away from blogging daily or almost daily. I knew from the start that wouldn’t be me.
I hope the work on the book continues a pace and you figure out whodunit!

We’ve got rain coming in today so it will melt a lot of our snow as well. Hope you guys have a good week-end!

  17. Even though you usually blog four times a week, you write a lot, Dan, and then add a gallery… I get tired just thinking about it! Do you have your header photos on auto-change (is that even a thing?) because I really like the photo for today. Looks crisp and cold…very pretty. We have a hard freeze coming this week which means one of my big plants in the front yard will turn black….and stay that way until I cut it back next month and we start our yearly routine all over again. Make sure you have plenty of sourdough and jam so you don’t have to run out to the store in this freezing weather! Have a great weekend.

Like Judy and Ally, I just can’t keep up with y’all. Plus, some of them post multiple times per day. I just can’t. There is life outside of blogging and if I tried to keep up, there goes my life!
    Nice pics, of course :)

    1. I really do think about that. I mean, whats the point of writing if people have to skip reading it.

      Liked by 2 people

      1. The way I see it, the multi-posters have to accept that most people will not read each and every post. Bloody hell, I have one that can write up to 7-8 posts per day! These people write for themselves, and that’s okay. Blogging is personal. And some don’t write to engage as they don’t even respond to comments. Some don’t even offer the comment box so you know they are just putting their stuff out there. I can’t even contemplate once per day! I don’t know how they do it.

  26. Love the reflective photos, Dan. I can’t keep up that kind of posting schedule. I used to do 3 posts a week, but the walk can be quite long and time consuming (though it’s usually my favourite) I gave up the challenges because it doesn’t leave time for anything else, once you’ve posted and visited everyone else. I felt like I was always chasing my tail. I’d rather be less frequent and enjoy what I do. I still regularly visit the stars of the show like the Lens Artists and Cee, of course. You can learn from them. But I no longer feel compelled to join in.
