The Thursday Doors recap for the two and one half day period listed above is ready to be viewed. Click here if you’re interested. There are some wonderful doors out there this week!

Just Jot January 10-year badge

Please note: This is the first of two very important announcements. I am participating in Linda G. Hill’s JusyJoJan challenge. Today’s prompt is “Plants” from J-dub. Click her to visit JilyWily’s blog.

How about all those beautiful plants in our new badge?

This next announcement is for Thursday Doors participants. A change in some aspects of WordPress, or perhaps because of my new theme, I was forced to rewrite the script that generates the table presented in the Thursday Doors Recap. In doing so, I made extensive modifications to the script, and now the preparation of the table is almost fully automated. This causes me to make the following procedural changes:

  • If you do not post a pingback or leave a link to your TD Post in the comment section of my post, it is unlikely that your blog post will be included in the Recap. I follow many of you, and if I can, I will manually add your link, but things get crazy for me between Thursday and Saturday, so I can’t promise that that will happen.
  • The tags I added to the Recap last year are presenting a problem for me. They are not heavily used, and if I can’t solve the problem, I will discontinue support for them. For now, please continue to include them so I can continue testing.
  • The survey results that are gathered into the Recap are currently being reviewed and refreshed. If your information is incorrect or incomplete, check again next week. If it remains incorrect, email me at nofacilities at gmail dot com
  • Creating the Recap Page is also compromised by WordPress not having support for the conversion of a spreadsheet to a table. So, the format of the Recap page is suffering a little. I will continue to work on this with the Happiness Engineers.
  • Since the Recap Page is in a state of flux, if there is something you would like to see in the Recap, let me know in a comment to this post.

I’d like to remind people that the Recap page often generates more than 100 clicks – those are visits to your blogs, not mine. Getting the information correct is important. Please bare with me while I iron this out, and please help if you can.

Anyone who leaves a link or makes a pingback to the current week’s Thursday Doors post on my site, is automatically included in the recap. If you don’t leave a link, I will try to find you, but I can’t make any promises.

All five of my current books are now available in audio book form thanks to Amazon KDP’s Virtual Voice process. The voice is AI generated, but I can honestly say, it’s pretty darn good. The audio books are reasonably priced (all below $7 US) and, if you already own the Kindle version and want to add an audio version, you can do that for $1.99. There is a five-minute sample on the book page for each book. If you’re interested, click on any of the Dreamer’s Alliance book links below the image or on the link below for my latest book.

  1. Thank you Dan for all your hard work keeping things on track and in order for Thursday Doors. I know it is a lot of work for you. Much appreciated!
    Have a good one!

    1. Thanks Suzette. Normally, it’s not too hard. I follow most of the participants, and I love your doors, so I’d be reading anyway. WordPress makes it harder sometimes, when something breaks or changes. Actually the programming exercise I had to go through was kind of fun, it just took too long and came at a bad time. I hope you have a great week ahead.

Which tags do I have to use nd when?

    1. You don’t have to use them. If the URL for your post is: https://myBlog.com/myPost/, you can add some descriptive tags to it in the comment you leave or in the blog title to make it: https://myBlog.com/myPost/#ChurchDoors,#RedDoors,#Spain – and those descriptors will be broken out in the Recap. I will split the longer strings, as there can’t be any spaces in the tags.

As I said, they are optional and have no affect on the URL. I wanted to find a way to let people say something about their post so that people looking at the Recap page would be interested. I’m open to suggestions, if you think there’s a better way to do that.

  3. Good on you Dan for attempting to get thing easy for yourself. It is a hot Summer here 36C today and 99% humidity so I am happy to bare with you while you iron it out 😁

    1. Perhaps I should have said, “smooth it out.” I’m guessing you don’t need an iron right now. We at 13°f (-11°c) – but I wouldn’t trade you. I hope you have a good week ahead,

  6. It’s rare to see grass in my part of the world, but a bunny in the grass would be a miracle to behold. Happy Sunday to you, Dan.

    1. They are so much fun to see, Gwen. Quiet, peaceful and just munching away. All we do is let them live under our porch. Happy Sunday.

  7. You put so much into Thursday Doors and the recap on Sunday–I wish WP would work with you.

    1. In fairness to them, I’m using something they use internally, and I guess it was never meant to for public use. So, I had to revert to something that isn’t dependent on WP’s naming conventions. But, yeah, a little notice would have been nice.

      1. Hey HE’s! Whatta ya mean we can’t use something you guys use ‘internally’?! What does that even mean–internally? We’re paying, right?!
Not to worry, Dan. Taken care of. cracks knuckles and walks away

  8. Dan, we all use Mr. Linky for linkups. There is a free version: https://misterlinky.net. Check it out and see if this works for you.

    1. Thanks Colleen. Norm used Mr.Linky in the beginning, but he changed to this method because a lot of people told him they didn’t like viewing the posts there, and some told him they didn’t want to participate that way. I had a paid account there (from a defunct challenge) that I told him he could use, but he said it wasn’t the cost (and it’s not that expensive).

When I took over, I figured I’d keep it the same way. I know we have regular participants who would not use it. We have some that would never show up if it wasn’t for pingbacks working (because they don’t comment). One of the changes I made was to let people combine Thursday Doors with other challenges, so they’d be posting to two link pages.

  9. Horsefeathers, Dan. You had already done a lot of hard work on this… and you’re still hammering away at it. I echo what others have said. I’m grateful for all the work you’ve done. Thanks for the update. Hugs.

    1. Thanks Teagan. You might not be surprised to learn that I kind of enjoyed the programming part of this. It’s nice to know that I can still think like a programmer. I had to change the way things work, and now that it works so well, I feel like I really want to just go with what the program generates and not fuss around. The Recap does generate more exposure for the people playing along on this, so I like to keep it going. If I can make it a less-than-10-minute job, I’m very happy.

    1. Actually, I kind of enjoyed the programming, Robbie. I never worked as a programmer, but I would often pitch in an help my team. I really like it.
