Today is the last day of JusJoJan and one out of fifty-two One-liner Wednesdays. Our host, Linda G. Hill, has brought us prompt after prompt and nudge after nudge so that we keep writing. JusJoJan is just the thing I need to get me back into blogging after the holiday break.

All five of my current books are now available in audio book form thanks to Amazon KDP’s Virtual Voice process. The voice is AI generated, but I can honestly say, it’s pretty darn good. The audio books are reasonably priced (all below $7 US) and, if you already own the Kindle version and want to add an audio version, you can do that for $1.99. There is a five-minute sample on the book page for each book. If you’re interested, click on any of the Dreamer’s Alliance book links below the image or on the link below for my latest book.

  1. I love all the critters coming out day and night some just to say hi or for the special buffet you offer, Dan. Bless you for taking care of nature around you. Your photos brought a smile. Thank you!

    1. Thanks Suzette. With the ground covered and frozen, it’s hard for these guys to find things to eat. We just try to help.

  2. I can’t wait to see your place in summer, Dan. It looks so cold! You get great company though.

    1. I hope you’re not expecting a neatly manicured lawn, Jo. We let what most of our neighbors probably consider weeds grow. The Bees and the bunnies love them. Sometimes, we even mow around patches of weeds, when they’re blooming. The visits from the critters is near constant.

  3. I like the raw print. Doing donuts on ice wouldn’t wear the tyres out as quickly 😂

    1. My dad took us out on icy parking lots so we could experience recovering from a skid. I took our daughter for the same reason, but doing a few donuts was part of the process.. I never tried that close to light fixtures.

  4. Some warm tummies in a cold world! “Learning to drive?” was the close call this time. Tires, feet, paws — the snow tells a story.

    1. We hadn’t see the starlings for a while. Maybe someone put out a better spread than we do. But they’re back again today. I just hope no one ever plows sideways into one of those light bases. They don’t look very forgiving.

  5. “I think this is a good place to get breakfast” is a flashing sign for all animals attached to your roof. You take good care of them and they are appreciative. :-)

    1. Thanks Judy. They do seem to enjoy it. It’s funny what attracts different birds. We’ve recently added a new brand of no-waste seed to the mix. I think the starlings like that. It has lots of nuts in it. I once threw out a box of Special-K (after I broke a tooth on something in it). A murder of crows swooped in and gobbled up those flakes in a minute or two.

  6. Wildlife knows how to stay active during the winter. Plus, it’s their way to stay warm!

    1. And I think they get a little water along with the birdseed. We scrape some bare spots when it snows, unless it’s frozen hard enough to support everybody on top. Doing our part to take care of the non-migrating folks.

  7. Poor bunny. His midnight forage was busted by motion sensors.
Glad to see mailbox squirrel is unaffected by such things.

    1. The squirrels keep banker’s hours. No midnight romps for them. At least the motion detector let me get a look at the bunny. Sorry it’s not a very good picture, but neither the light nor the bunny would be there if I tried to go out for a better shot.

This can’t possibly be the last day of January already!

Looks like the Antion Wildlife Refuge/Diner is becoming very well-known to critters. Love the puppy paw print and the bunny prints.

If those tire marks are from someone learning to drive, I hope they’re never issued a license!

We have a huge number of Starlings here that have joined the other birds and critters for meals and fresh water.

Even the bitter cold doesn’t deter Old Glory!

Happy Hump Day Dan. We need some sunshine so it at least “looks” warmer!

    1. I think the best we can hope for today is light grey, Ginger. They keep promising a sunny day – now they say Saturday.

My dad took us boys to places like that lot to teach us how to get out of a skid. I took our daughter, but I took her to a lot that didn’t have lights mounted on concrete supports. I hope no one ever hits one of those. A few donuts are fun. A cracked up car, less so.

The starlings are recent arrivals. Maybe the word is spreading about our free breakfast buffet.

January is soon in the basket. It’s hard to believe, but yep. one down.

I hope you have a great week.

    1. We haven’t received a lot of snow, GP, but the mix of snow and ice has effectively covered the ground. We clear some spaces in the front and back.

  11. Wonderful winter scenes, Dan. Seeing the tire tracks in the snow brought me back to when my boys were learning to drive. 😄

    1. That’s how I learned to get out of a skid, and that’s how we taught our daughter. I couple of donuts thrown in for fun. Seeing those marks brings back fun memories, Gwen.

    1. Me, too, Frank. Their feet melt through and it freezes back pretty fast.

  13. Hopefully the bunny is warm and welcome there with the squirrels in the woodpile. The snow looks so pretty, but cold.
We’ve got a change in weather happening here. Lots of wind right now with maybe some rain and snow by the week-end. Our little warm spell in the 40’s is saying bye-bye too we’ll be back down in the 20’s soon. Stay warm!

    1. I thought I saw the bunny jump up into the wood rack, Deborah. I snapped a picture, but nothing but a dark blur. We’ve had possums in the wood piles, along with the ever present squirrels. I hope we don’t have to dislodge them to get firewood. Our forecast has us staying in the 20s for lows and 30s for highs. Not enough to melt this mess all at once (which is good). I hope your winds eases up – that’s always scary.

  14. Terrific shots of all the little beasties waiting for their peanuts. I think an interesting fact might be how many pounds of peanuts you dispense in a year. I have to believe the number is pretty high. Thanks to Linda for her prompt work.

    Liked by 2 people

    1. Oh, I don’t want to do that math, John. We buy 5lb bags of peanuts fairly often, and no-waste bird seed in the winter. We put some out during the rest of the year, but not as often once things are growing.

    1. They seem to, Lois. But the food is in the yard. I think they just like going up and down the ramp ;-)

  16. We’ve had a lot of gray here, Dan, since the bitter cold and sun went away. It seems that we swapped sun for warmth. Last night the weatherman said we would see sun today, but I’m not holding my breath.

Thursday doors…does a cat fence door count? I have to get that story out, but so busy again…

    1. Pet doors are doors, Mary. I keep that definition loose. Norm was always willing to stretch to meet a door. I hope you’re busy with things you enjoy.

We have a rare squirrel around the RV Resort, maybe we should get some and try it! Of course, the owners might not like that…wildlife is so rare in our park that except for every ones dogs, I only see lizards and birds for the most part.

        1. My guess is they don’t want squirrels (but what to they know?)

          Liked by 1 person

          1. Either that, or the squirrels don’t want to be around so many people and vehicles 😁

  20. Our neighbor in the back has nighttime lights which activate in the presence of…whatever. I’ve seen it come on overnight at times, and have been wondering what nighttime “shoppers” are roaming around. We’ve have bunnies here before, and perhaps they’ve made their way back our way. It probably is not the squirrels, because they’re just “nuts” about darting about during the day.🥜

    1. The squirrels seem to be daylight creatures. We have bunnies and a possum, and perhaps something else that I haven’t caught.

  22. Love the pup prints and the frozen leaf. It’s been in the upper 70’s here but “cooling off” on a few days. Don’t blame me!

    Liked by 1 person

    1. I’m not looking to spread blame, Janet. I’m not ready for 70. We’re about half that, and doing OK. I like the pup prints. It reminds me of our second Irish Setter. He was a big boy, and he was hot. His feet used to melt into the snow and then it would freeze over the prints.

  29. Your menagerie always gives me smiles. Do you have sparrows, or do the blue jays and starlings keep them away? The blue jays around here are quite bossy, although I never see them down on the street with the starlings, sparrows, and pigeons. (K)

  30. If a bunny is living in your log pile, does that mean no wood fires for you and The Editor?

    1. If we need more firewood, we might have to evict the little bugger. I hope it doesn’t come to that .
