Welcome to Thursday Doors! This is a weekly challenge for people who love doors and architecture to come together to admire and share their favorite door photos, drawings, or other images or stories from around the world. If you’d like to join us, simply create your own Thursday Doors post each (or any) week and then share a link to your post in the comments below, anytime between 12:01 am Thursday morning and Saturday noon (North American eastern time). If you like, you can add our badge to your post.

in primo piano – photos

Some of you might recognize some of the doors in today’s gallery. Yes, we’ve been here before, but I don’t think I’ve been here in winter. In any case, our weather has not been the kind that inspires doorscursions. I do like the fact that some of these buildings are not obscured by trees full of leaves.

I hope you will take a few minutes to visit some of the contributions by the other door lovers around the world.

All five of my current books are now available in audio book form thanks to Amazon KDP’s Virtual Voice process. The voice is AI generated, but I can honestly say, it’s pretty darn good. The audio books are reasonably priced (all below $7 US) and, if you already own the Kindle version and want to add an audio version, you can do that for $1.99. There is a five-minute sample on the book page for each book. If you’re interested, click on any of the Dreamer’s Alliance book links below the image or on the link below for my latest book.

  1. Some fantastic doors Dan! I love the Blown Away Salon, what a great building. Also that side door of the church is pretty cool, you can’t beat a church door. Here are my doors for the week https://wrookieschu.com/2024/01/31/doors-of-wordpress-v74/ …also what a great term ‘doorscursion’.

    1. I like clever names like that, Wayne. I like how they made that little business park look like a residential development. It’s all shops.

You have a hard choice for us. I picked three (not number three, three favs).

      1. Haha thanks Dan! Yes that’s really clever of them, I love how they look like houses.

I have another “Who’s at the Door” post today. It’s a blogger interview, and it includes links to a song I recently did. LOL, only for the brave of heart re listening to me sing.

    1. Thanks Miriam. Sadly, you’re right about those doors at the fire station. I’m guessing the original ones opened out, and that the fire apparatus was drawn by horses. I looked quickly for a historic photo, but I didn’t find one – maybe for next week.

  7. “The Blown Away Salon” is great in name for a salon, I think! It looks like that was a house converted into various businesses. Pretty cool!
Love the Canal house it reminds me of a barn with its high roof. I like the side entrance to the Congregational Church, quite a unique awning. Great weathered door, there as well. Nicely done. Thank you, Dan.

    1. Thanks Suzette. That plaza where “Blown Away” is located was built in the 1990s. It was built to look like a residential area, but it’s all shops and small businesses. The Canal house has been featured before. I love that they’ve preserved the building. The Congregational church sits across from the Canal and the mill that now owns the canal.

      1. Thank you Dan, I enjoyed the photos. It is great to see buildings without snow and bare trees uncovering the surrounding architecture. It is grey here, so far this mid winter’s day. It was a pleasure to see some bright images.

Today, for the first time in days, I see sunshine and blue sky. It has been gray, wet, or misty. Yesterday’s storm in Norway brought us winds and rain in the morning, but it also cleared the skies and boy, does it feel good. I feel somewhat uplifted, what a mood changer the sun is. 14. Definitely worth the second look! The Congregational Church is so imposing, as, I’m sure, it was meant to be. This is another place where the buildings speak of sturdiness. I love the photo of the canal house, but I can’t tell you why. Wait. Is that that arched bridge in the background?

    Liked by 1 person

    1. The canal house is one of my favorite buildings around here. I have shared photos of it before, in various seasons, and I’ll probably circle back to it in the future. The bridge behind it is the highway (I-91) bridge over the CT River. It’s currently under construction, and the equipment might throw you off a bit.

      1. A highway bridge. Ah. Thanks. Lots going on in that photo then. I don’t remember seeing this house before but then I don’t remember a lot; I’ll be watching for the next time you circle back to it.

Glad you had a second go-around in this area where trees in bloom aren’t blocking the view. The Congregational church is an awesome building. The Wilson Fire Quarters is unique. Love those doors and the windows above. The brick house and the Sophia Sweetland House with their yellow doors are real eye-catchers. And the little red canal house is a winner. The Blown Away Salon is a terrific name for a hair salon, and the building it shares with other businesses looks warm and inviting.

    Nice gallery Dan.

    1. Thanks Ginger. The building Blown Away is in was built for small shops, but it looks like a house. There are several others behind this one built in a similar fashion.

I love the brick work in the Wilson Firehouse. Built when people wanted thier work to mean something. Simple details that no one would think to include today.

The canal house is one of my favorite buildings in town. The mill that owns it bought the canal from the State to secure the water for a gas co-generation plant, with the agreement that they would maintain the canal.

I know people like yellow houses and yellow doors, and those two are winners.
