Apparently, I’ve used this title before. Anyway, happy Saturday! David and I have cut loose our anchor chains after a few days of high winds that put wind chill and feels-like temperatures as low as 12°f (-11°c). We are here at the bar for a relaxing day before a vacation week. While we’re here, we will have a go at Linda G. Hill’s Stream of Consciousness Saturday prompt:

Linda G. Hill’s blog

If we were having a beer, you’d be ratting me out to Cheryl.

“Hi guys. I’ll bring your usual around in a few secs.”

“Thanks Cheryl. Did you enjoy lunch Dan?”

“Huh?”

“Well, lunch yesterday. I saw your car at Skooter’s. First Friday during Lent. I’m guessing you stopped for fish and chips.”

“Are you sure that was my car?”

“Are you sure, David? A lot is riding on this.”

“I took a picture, Cheryl. That looks like Dan’s car to me.”

“Photographic evidence doesn’t lie, Dan. You’ve been cheating on me.”

“Photographic evidence can certainly be made to lie, Cheryl. I could turn that car into David’s car in ten minutes in PhotoShop—less if I wanted to use their AI extensions.”

“Dan. This is David. You seriously think he’s capable of editing a photograph.”

“Maybe Siri did it.”

“Like David knows how to use Siri.”

“I hate Siri.”

“You hate Siri?”

“Never use her/it, unless she’s behind the woman’s voice on the GPS on my iPhone. I do use that.”

“Why do you hate Siri?”

“She forgot my wife’s name. I tried to text my wife and Siri said there was nobody in my contact list with that name.”

“Are you sure you remembered your wife’s name?”

“We’ve been married something like fifty years, Dan. I think I remember her name.”

“Something like fifty years, David?”

“Let’s see…we got married after I graduated. So, nineteen seventy-six.”

“Did you just look at your ring? Your college ring with your graduation year on it. You did, didn’t you David?”

“Before you two chase each other down that rabbit hole, can I assume you’re having something to eat?”

“Yes. And Dan’s buying since he cheated on us.”

“Us? Since when are you part of us?”

“You didn’t come here for lunch yesterday. You denied me your company.”

“Were you here for lunch yesterday?”

“No, but I could have been.”

“Cheryl, were you tending bar yesterday?”

“No, but I could have been?”

“Could have been? The reality is no one was denied anything by my eating at Skooter’s.”

“Not so, Dan. This bar was denied the profit on your meal. That adversely affects my compensation.”

“Cheryl, the owner of this bar adversely affects your compensation by taking advantage of the reduced allowable minimum wage for tipped workers. And since you weren’t here, you wouldn’t have gotten my tip.”

“Skippy was here, and he could use the money.”

“I contributed to Skippy’s situation last week. I went to see his play.”

“You did?”

“Yes, David, I did. I went to the matinee performance on Sunday.”

“How was he? Do you have photos of him on stage?”

“He was very good, but no photos or video was allowed.”

“He actually played both roles?”

“He did, and it was quite realistic. He, as a customer, would ask for a drink. Then, as he walked behind the bar, he would shed his jacket, cinch up his tie and pour the drink.”

“What do you guys want on that pizza?”

“Sausage, peppers and onions. And mushrooms.”

“And another round?”

“Yes, but if we’re having pizza, I’ll join Dan. Modelos all around.”

“Maybe I’ll put the order in and then scoot around the bar and help you eat it. I have a jacket in the back.”

All five of my current books are now available in audio book form thanks to Amazon KDP’s Virtual Voice process. The voice is AI generated, but I can honestly say, it’s pretty darn good. The audio books are reasonably priced (all below $7 US) and, if you already own the Kindle version and want to add an audio version, you can do that for $1.99. There is a five-minute sample on the book page for each book. If you’re interested, click on any of the Dreamer’s Alliance book links below the image or on the link below for my latest book.

  1. We got about 2 inches from this last storm, but damn. The wind chill is insane!

    1. We have a weather station mounted on the garage roof. The slope of the roof interferes with the wind, and we’ve never had a reading over 30mph. Thursday, it hit 42mph. It was crazy cold out there.

  2. Great share, Dan! Siri is not always helpful…LOL
Wonderful photos. It does look very cold from the photos. Amazing how the snow adds so much light to the images. The sunrise photos are beautiful!

  3. We got that same inch of snow and the wind. I actually fired up the snowblower and used it for most of the driveway, but the rest I just used my push shovel. Happy weekend, Dan.

    1. I pushed this stuff around, Judy, but in some places, it had been packed in by the wind and was almost solid. We got a little more overnight. At least you got to use the machine.

  4. I don’t even have Siri, so I can’t comment on that. But that picture of Skooter’s looks like the type dinner we are sorely missing down here!!

    1. No virtual personal assistant for you, GP? I don’t think you’re missing much. Skooter’s is a great little diner. It opened about 20 years ago. I was worried during Covid. Up until then, they didn’t take credit cards.

  5. These photos are just what I’m seeing outside my windows. We got snow and snow and then more snow yesterday! The previous day was howling winds. So I’ll pretend I’m in Scooter’s. What an inviting look it has! So I’m pretending I’m sitting on one of those stools that twirls around as I wait for my bacon (crispy) and eggs (over easy) and sourdough toast (or rye) and grits (as long as I’m pretending, I’ll go for the whole show). Meanwhile, hooray for Skippy and Saturday snark!

    1. You can have all those things except grits, Maureen. But they are famous for their hash browns, and you can always add a slice of pie.

      Liked by 1 person

      1. I know we can never agree on grits, but a compromise of pie is doable!

        Liked by 1 person

        1. I wouldn’t mind if they served grits. We do have a restaurant in town that does. Actually, it’s the place we most often go for breakfast.

  6. Dan, you have more snow on the ground than we do, but the freezing cold made it here yesterday. I would rather it was the other way around – more snow, less cold, but I can’t control winter.

Not sure what you ate at Scooter’s (a sinful burger?), but I had a wonderful Lenten dinner last night – salmon with cherry balsamic reduction, a flavorful couscous, and broccolini that they obviously threw on a grill. So yummy! Anyhow, you made me laugh questioning David’s memory as I can relate…lol!

Have an awesome weekend and week to come. Stay warm!

    1. I had the fish and chips on the left of the upper gallery, but their burgers are also good. You might get a funny look if you asked for broccolini (I do like that). I was good with our anniversary for 13 years – we were married as many years as Mitzy was old. Then Irish Setter number-1 died and I have to do the math.

  7. I enjoyed the banter and the photos, Dan. We have 39 degrees this morning and yesterday it was 77. Go figure. The fish and chips look great, too.

    1. That’s a wild swing, John. We’re at 35 degrees today, but the wind has died down, so it feels like 34. I love their fish and chips. Not much of a sacrifice, but…

I love the Saturday snark at the bar, and today is no exception. Hooray for Skippy! He may be on his way to Broadway! Wouldn’t that be a hoot.

Same weather here Dan. Still snowing, but the wind has finally calmed down.

Love those sunset shots and that contrail looks great against the blue of the sky.

Definitely want to keep fire hydrants and mailboxes clear. A lot of people don’t do that.

Terrific shot of Old Glory blowin’ in the wind!

Warmer temperatures forecast! Have a great weekend that turns into a great week.

    1. It just stopped snowing here, Ginger, but thankfully, no wind. I can shovel this stuff off to the side. Warmer days and rain coming at the end of the week. Things will be white for a while.

People in our neighborhood are good about the fire plugs and the storm sewers.

Old Glory seemed to enjoy the stiff wind. Much more than I did while walking.

I hope you have a great weekend.

    1. This is a light winter for us, Kim. Our worst winter brought us over 120″ of snow. We had 80″ of snow fall in January., The banks on the side of my driveway were over my head. I don’t mind, especially now that I’m not going to work after clearing it.

You know, it seems to me that David keeps pretty close tabs on your whereabouts, Dan. I have to wonder if it is him and not the bunny who is turning on your motion detector lights during the night. 🤔
