The honeysuckle had a most powerful smell in the morning.I like seeing and smelling the lilacs. They aren’t in full bloom, but they are making progress.Everything is planed to final dimension and to remove saw marks. Faith and I also saw these while playing mini-golf. I’m not sure what they are either. Two slats are “resawn” from a single board. That makes them about 3/8″ thick. They are then planed down to 1/4″One more – Faith and I saw this while playing mini-golf. I’m not sure what it is.I don’t know what this is. Maddie and I saw it on our walk.Faith and I saw this while playing mini-golf. I’m not sure what it is.A welcome sight on the flight to FloridaGreat chowder and those stupid mini-cornbread-muffins.French Toast made with thick-sliced Italian bread.New name, same great pizzaCheeseburger with lettuce, mayo and fried onions. Side of fries and onion rings. Heinz ketchup is a plus., I – Am – Sorry. There are two fried eggs under there, again, sorry.Warming up by the fire at Old Sturbridge Village
All five of my current books are now available in audio book form thanks to Amazon KDP’s Virtual Voice process. The voice is AI generated, but I can honestly say, it’s pretty darn good. The audio books are reasonably priced (all below $7 US) and, if you already own the Kindle version and want to add an audio version, you can do that for $1.99. There is a five-minute sample on the book page for each book. If you’re interested, click on any of the Dreamer’s Alliance book links below the image or on the link below for my latest book.
These all are favorite scents of mine. Love smelling fresh cut wood! I swear I can smell all that food! My Cheerios won’t cut it this morning! I would just add the smell of freshly cut grass….love it!
Great response to the challenge Dan. Enjoy this last Monday in February. Enjoy the warmer temperatures the meteorologists keep promising us!
I’m with the smell of wood, going into a lumber yard in the old days.. was a “high”.. next would be the fire crackling and the smoke from it on a clear evening in the countryside, If you add the sound of the ocean or sea pounding into shore.. I’d take that too..
The picture of Sturbridge Village offers a stark contrast to my early impression of that place: On a 4th grade field trip, our first stop was the schoolhouse where we sat, giggling waiting for the session to start.
The “schoolmaster” entered and smacked a fat hickory stick on his desk and screamed “SCHOOL IS IN SESSION!”
Though after being momentarily startled, a few of us started giggling again, though a bit nervously this time around.
We’ve been in that schoolhouse a few times but never when it’s been in session. I’ve met people here who say, “Went there when I was a kid,” as an excuse for never having gone again. I always manage to enjoy our visits. At least they didn’t make you stand in the corner or strap you into a ducking stool.
I can smell everything, Dan, especially the coffee, flowers and bonfire. This is a nice assortment of odiferous items…nice response to the prompt! Have a wonderful week!
Hey, I’m Canadian and Tim Hortons rules and I can’t stand their coffee… I might actually take Dunkin’ over Timmies. Don’t like Starbucks either. To be honest, the best, for me, is McDonald’s! Outside of real coffee joints, that is.
I was trying to remember Tim Horton so I could say that we didn’t have any around here. McDonald’s has good coffee, but it’s hotter than I like. These days, I’m drinking Chock full o’Nuts, which is what we brew at home.
Some Tim Horton’s have made it over the border and I do know that Target stocks it. It is good coffee. Too hot? Wait before you sip!! ;-)
Nah, I can’t do the nut-thing; they are too sweet for my liking.
But hey, we likes what we likes, eh?
Honeysuckle is a most beautiful scent. I don’t remember anyone having it in their garden up north, but it is unmistakable down here.
One of my favorite scents is toast. I’m not a big fan of toast for breakfast, but my husband is and I am sure he is so tired of hearing me say, “Oh, that smells so good.” But it does!
I have toast for breakfast, and it does smell good. The honeysuckle is taking over a corner of our fence. It’s been here forever and you can definitely tell when it’s in bloom.
My husband rolls his eyes at my breakfast. I am such a sweets-lover. So bring on donuts, zucchini or banana bread (sliced rather thick, please) or croissants with a load of jam. Sugared-up and I am ready to go! 😆
I would eat all of those, if they were here. We tried a new grocery store. They had store-made zucchini bread. I had to give that a try, you know, research.
Lol at the “review” of those mini-cornbread muffins. Nice to have Dunkin’, but I would have needed about four of them at that size. Honeysuckle…both Mrs. Chess and myself are big inhalers of those. Gotta get out and play some mini-golf this Spring…and to be sure…take in any and all scents available.
That restaurant was in the Marriott in Burlington, MA. I joked with the bartender that they needed to give us about a dozen of those muffins. The honeysuckle is a favorite scent, but If I don’t do some serious pruning, our yard is going to look like the old Discovery Channel show – Life After People. I think there’s a mini-golf grudge match in my near future.
The nut trees has started to bloom out here but that’s about it. No lilac blossoms yet and another cold front moving in. Spring will be a very welcome event here!
Honeysuckle is one of my favorite scents in the world! Excellent choice, Dan.
I also love the smell of a good seafood chowder, and there is nothing like the smell of a pizza fresh out of the oven. Woodsmoke is another favorite, and that bonfire looks inviting!
I could fill this gallery with pictures of chowder, Mae, and pizza. I had to start with honeysuckle since it’s a persistent scent around here in the spring/summer/fall. I don’t know why, but our has been blooming throughout the summer and into October.
I love the smell of freshly sawn wood and yes I think lilacs are my favourite flower. Then I love the smell of a pine forest just after a rain. It feels different, it sounds different and it smells… Different.
I didn’t think about fresh cut wood. I so love that scent. When we lived in Colorado and camped every week, we hunted for down trees in the woods and I always cut it. :D D
Some of my neighbours have Jasmine growing in their yards and it smells so once as I walk by with the dogs first thing in the morning. You picked some grta scents here! I could add fresh baked bread and my dad’s pipe tobacco.
I should post but my brain is already crowded. But some of my faves are odd to explain. Freshly mown grass, a rain shower, the moment a cigarette is lit but not the smoking, freshly ground coffee and a newborn baby. 🥰
That French toast is so good, Wayne. It was good to be around the fire. During Covid, they didn’t have the campfires or anything that encouraged people to get together. They restarted the fires last year.
Smells good to me, Dan. :-) I love the scent of lilacs, which never seem to be reproduced properly, as well as the scent of lavender. Coffee smells so good, although I don’t like plain coffee to often, but a mocha is always welcome, especially if it’s made with dark chocolate. Mmmmm. A (controlled) fire is such an evocative scent but I think I need a marshmallow or two as well. Do you think that’s possible?
Well, at the event that has the fire, you can also purchase hot chocolate (with peppermint schnapps or Bailie’s) and you can get marshmallows in it. How’s that?
Hi Dan – honesuckle, roses, daphne … and I could tell you those plants you haven’t identified here – but not off the top of my head. The smell of sawdust – yes … too, as good food … cheers Hilary
Well, I’m no plant/flower expert here but I tried to get the names of some flowers and plants. Picture 4 – Seems like a lavender plant to me. I wasn’t able to zoom further. Picture 6 – The white ones seem to me like Drimia Maritima. Picture 7 – Apricot Tree Flowers and Picture 8 – Black-eyed Susan (yellow sunflower-lookalike is Rudbeckia Hirta).
