Welcome to Thursday Doors! This is a weekly challenge for people who love doors and architecture to come together to admire and share their favorite door photos, drawings, or other images or stories from around the world. If you’d like to join us, simply create your own Thursday Doors post each (or any) week and then share a link to your post in the comments below, anytime between 12:01 am Thursday morning and Saturday noon (North American eastern time). If you like, you can add our badge to your post.

As the title suggests, I don’t really know much about these buildings. I remain busy, and the weather remains uncooperative, so I haven’t had a proper doorscursion yet in 2024. My approach for this post was to simply take pictures of interesting looking doors from whenever my errands took me.

I hope you enjoy the gallery. I also hope you have a chance to visit some of the posts linked here by other participants. If you can’t make all of them today, please stop back on Sunday for a Recap of all participant posts.

All five of my current books are now available in audio book form thanks to Amazon KDP’s Virtual Voice process. The voice is AI generated, but I can honestly say, it’s pretty darn good. The audio books are reasonably priced (all below $7 US) and, if you already own the Kindle version and want to add an audio version, you can do that for $1.99. There is a five-minute sample on the book page for each book. If you’re interested, click on any of the Dreamer’s Alliance book links below the image or on the link below for my latest book.

  4. Nice houses, Dan. Vasai, the town I now live in has a huge population of converted Catholics historically. So, even today, when I go around I see these bungalows owned by them through generations. However, today most of them have put a part of their property on rent (to banks, waffle shops, car dealers, ATMs, and so on), especially in the lower area. This allows them to make income for repair and maintenance and probably for their personal use as well. On the other hand, when I traveled to Rajasthan, I saw the reverse trend. Many of the bungalow owners have transformed the upper part of the property into Airbnb space.

    1. That’s interesting, Sharukh. Large homes are so expensive to maintain. Many of the early American homes were built for extended families during the high points of immigration. Many of those have been turned into professional office space, especially the ones near the city center. The photo at the bottom, is two building lots back from Main Street in the center of East Hartford.

  6. Hi Dan, I like the toy kitchenette door- it’s really cute, the door to the playarea and the grey house with two trees standing on either side like sentinels.

This is mine for this week with a sprinkling of doors :)

    1. Thanks Smitha. The play area is pretty cute. I saw a young girl playing there, and she didn’t want to leave when her mom’s car was ready.

You have some cool doors and some nice photos. I always like seeing doors on furniture.

Thanks, Dan. That gives me greater scope, I guess.. knowing you like doors on furniture. It’s tough getting house doors here with all the security around.

  7. Hi Dan, a superb selection of Random doors, several of which made me laugh, the bank door and the children’s play area (somewhat restricted), for example. The murals are always a welcome addition from my perspective, so all in all a very enjoyable post.

Great photos Dan. Love the one in the bank!
The barns look well maintained with electricity too (electricity pole) so I can guess they are put to good use. Nice to see that.
Love the last house, very good updating of the home into the Foot Care Clinic. Great paint job to outline the cream/beige in the facade, that could not have been an easy painting task. Outstanding look to that building!
I think you did manage a doorscursion from these great photos. I enjoyed the views.

    1. I’m glad you enjoyed these doors, Suzette. I like it when I have time to look into the history but it’s been a busy end of winter, and the weather has not cooperated. On the days I had time to run around, it’s rained.

Those barn are being used. The place isn’t a farm, but I’ve seen the doors open and lights on inside. Maybe a workshop? I guess that because that’s what I’d do if I had barns like that.

The older houses are mostly close to the city center. I would guess they were originally built for extended families (or very large families). They’ve either been converted to business use or apartments, but I’m glad they’re still standing.

Dan, you captured the essence of New England in each of these homes. The one that now houses a foot care center is a beautiful building. What an awesome it must have been.

The mural on Pho 501 is amazing. I love seeing artwork like this on buildings.

The house you said you’d like to see more or bigger windows…..me too! It looks like it should be the back of the house. It needs a serious power washing too! 🤗

    LOVE the corner cabinet.

Kia created a great play area and I like the door. I’d probably go in there and play myself!

I have no doubt Willow is loving the Willow Inn!

Are you sure the police weren’t looking for YOU?! Lol!

    1. Thanks Ginger. No, the police were not looking for this boy. I’m not looking to get behind those doors.

If you visit the play area, you might have to are wrestle Maureen. She threatened to keep all the children out.

I always like it when someone dresses up a bland wall with some beautiful artwork.

If I ever need foot care, I know where I’m going. A quick look inside, whatever care they provide and a short stop at the Willow Inn on my way home. Maybe some take-out Pho.

The corner cabinet is a bargain at $95.

I hope you have a nice weekend. I hear we might see the sun.

I imagine that house with the narrow windows was build way back in the day when glass was so expensive…wait glass is still expensive! As we’re learning. A bad cough, cough golfer missed the green completely and hit one of our outdoor glass top tables late last summer with the ball. The Tempered glass shattered everywhere and I’m finding the glass to replace it very expensive. I’m looking for another tabletop alternative that we would be able to make ourselves.

The murals on the Pho place, and the rec center are cool. I liked those more than their doors. 😂
