After a week of rain, we had one bright sunny day and then it started raining again. Maybe April showers took a shortcut. In any case, come hell or high water—oh, yeah, we’re under a flood watch, too—Linda G. Hill’s Stream of Consciousness Saturday prompt must be dealt with. David and I are anticipating an easy afternoon sipping our favorite beverages and maybe a snack. The prompt:

Linda G. Hill

If we were having a beer, we’d both be confused.

“Hey guys, happy rainy weekend.”

“The seventh day of rain in the past eight days is hardly reason to celebrate, Cheryl.”

“Au contraire, David. Look around this bar.”

“It’s almost empty.”

“Correct. People don’t like to come out in the rain. That means we have a chance to enjoy each other’s company. Are you boys drinking the usual?”

“We are, and since Dan treated last week when Marian was here, I will pick up the tab today.”

“Don’t worry, Cheryl. I’ll make sure he leaves a better-than-David tip.”

“Thanks Dan.”

“Not to worry, Dan. Ive used the simple math method for years. I tip twice the tax.”

“That’s your method?”

“Yes, why do you sound alarmed by that.”

“Two reasons, David. One, our sales tax used to be seven and a half percent. They lowered it to six point three-five percent several years ago.”

“Oh…and two?”

“Your method—when it was accurate—would generate a fifteen percent tip. That’s anemic, especially for a bartender as good as Cheryl.”

“Here you go. One John Howell’s special and one Modelo. Can I get you guys anything else?”

“You can explain the parking lot.”

“Excuse me, Dan. What’ to explain?”

“The signage.”

“Oh, that’s right, you park in the lower lot.”

“Well, I prefer that lot, but despite a number of empty spaces, there were none I could park in.”

“We had to reserve spaces for the delivery drivers. Otherwise, they park in the middle and block the customers.”

“So, accommodate the inconsiderate at the expense of those who follow the rules?”

“Dan.”

“Yes, David.”

“We came here to relax. Drink your beer and park in the upper lot like a civilized human being from now on.”

“You’re right, David. Cheers.”

    1. Thanks Brian. That squirrel stops me in my tracks every time. She collects quite few peanuts at the base of that tree, and I’m not the only one feeding her.

    1. Thanks Darlene. We have more rain coming our way. In years past, this would have all been snow. We’ve had winters where we had 80-100+ inches (2-3m) of snow, but not recently.

  4. Hi Dan, you are getting all our rain. It is very unfair. You want sun and I want rain.

  5. You do look soggy there! That’s a lot of grey days. I think a photo of Bernie should be posted with that sign. I love the photo of the tree reflection in the puddle with the leaves — that’s a beauty!

    1. Thanks Maureen. The reflection photo is my favorite. I tried calling that cat, Bernie. He wasn’t impressed. He does have a face for a sarcastic sign. I hope you have a nice weekend.

  7. It’s raining as I type. :-) We had 2 1/2″ of rain the first part of the week, but I do appreciate I don’t have to move it. :-) Happy Saturday, Dan, and I hope there is sunshine in both our forecasts. Mud season has arrived early. :-)

    1. Happy Saturday, Judy. We have a mix of ‘partly sunny’ ‘chance of rain’ and ‘chance of snow’ in the forecast. I’m sure things will dry out at some point. I’m grateful for a gradual warming. I don’t want the bushes to get ahead of that last killer frost. I don’t trust March.

Since there’s no bunny photo I’ll choose to see the shape of a giant bunny in the background of your leaf shot.

  13. We could have used a few of those rainy New England days, Dan. It rained here yesterday, but given the lack of snow this winter, moisture is definitely needed. A few days of a steady rain would do our state and the farmers a lot of good.

I love the reflection of a dead tree with floating, wet leaves. You captured it perfectly. Have a wonderful weekend and I hope you have a dry week coming up.

    1. Thanks Mary. I don’t think anyone got the winter they wanted, but normal weather isn’t normal anymore. The tree reflection is my favorite photo. We have a mix of sun and rain coming this week. I hope you guys get the moisture you need – enough to make those bike trails pretty.

  15. Oh that first picture — the one of the tree’s reflection with its fallen leaves! That’s a brilliant picture! You totally need to sell a calendar. I guarantee I’d buy one, especially if that picture is in it. You could do a slew of them — twelve months of sunsets/sunrises, twelve months of squirrels, twelve months of bunnies, twelve months of leaves in ice or sun, completed wood projects, Maddie, MiMi and MuMu, trains and cranes…. I’d go broke buying them!

Rain, rain and more rain…..but at least we aren’t flooded, just soggy. Great response to the prompt.

First photo of tree reflected in puddle is outstanding. Good catch on the ‘no parking’ sign!

At least that cute beggar in the tree has a dry place to wait out his peanut deliveries! Perhaps you should encourage your mailman to deliver some peanuts to your mailbox for Smokey along with the mail!

“Up squirrel scope” is too funny.

Grumpy Cat looks a bit less grumpy here. Maybe it’s all that weight he’s carrying around. It would make me grumpy too.

Looks like the park crew has its annual spring cleanup to tackle.

Even Old Glory seems to be enjoying our one dry, sunny day.

Hope this is a good weekend for you and the Editor with an even better week ahead.

    1. Thanks Ginger. The grumpy cat might have been smiling before I got there – maybe it’s me. The squirrels are all involved in family planning, so I guess they need extra energy. When I went to deliver peanuts to the tree squirrel, I saw that someone else already had. Cute is a great marketing plan.

The tree reflected in the puddle is my favorite photo today. I think I was there at the right time for that.

The squirrel popping up out of the firewood rack is a mom. Later in the spring, we’ll be able to hear the babies, but we’ve never seen them.

I hope we get a few nice days in the week ahead. Old Glory would like to dry out. Have a nice weekend.

  17. Your photos are extra good today! The first one with a tree reflection and then actual leaves—wow! I kept going back to look at that one. haha! That grumpy cat–I love his little nose. Such a cutie. We had rain last night and this morning. The runners are breathing a sigh of relief as there is a big run downtown this morning. Nothing worse than running in a downpour. Have a great weekend, Dan.

    1. Thanks Lois. That first photo is my favorite, and a lot of people like it. I thought it would work, but I wasn’t sure. I’m glad you like it. The cat is NOT a cutie. 18. Okay, that knot framed squirrel…. 🤭❤️ I agree about the parking. Tipping here isn’t expected but normally is around 10%. We usually give more.

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Thanks Cheryl. I know tipping varies across the globe, but with reduced wages allowed for “tipped workers” it’s really important here. I wish it wasn’t, but…Parking is just nuts.

    1. Thanks Suzette. Everyone seems to like that tree. It is my favorite, along with the squirrel in the hole. She’s so cute! Parking here is crazy, and delivery drivers are the worst. I had to wait for one the other day because he left his door open while making the deliver. He was parked across from a car and no one could pass.

  24. Thanks for another fun visit at the bar, Dan. I love the tree reflection photo. The sign at the beginning pos-i-lutely slayed me! I imagine a vehicle like Wile E. Coyote might order in a kit from Acme — with extendable long legs attached to the wheels, so it could park above a car already in the space. LOL. Hugs.

It was a sweet 16 birthday party for one of the granddaughters this weekend. So I am catching up. Triple bonus points on the reflection tree with real leaves. Is there ever a ‘good’ time to paint the no parking sign on the boat ramp. And just how hard was it to resist painting a no fishing sign right next to it ? As for the rain I will still take it over the snow. We had winter storm warnings coming back home. Fortunately road conditions did not get too ugly, mostly wind gusts and the roads stayed clear.
