Many of you know that I have chosen the city of Pittsburgh as the setting for my books. This includes the four published books and two works in progress. Pittsburgh has more bridges than any city, including Venice! In several of my books, there are scenes where someone calls attention to the view of a bridge from underneath — a view, in theory, no one ever sees.

Cee included a wonderful photo of a bridge from below in her entry for this challenge. I’m writing this before searching my archives, but I wouldn’t be surprised if I select some bridges — possibly from Pittsburgh. Cee’s topic is Interesting Perspectives.

All five of my current books are now available in audio book form thanks to Amazon KDP’s Virtual Voice process. The voice is AI generated, but I can honestly say, it’s pretty darn good. The audio books are reasonably priced (all below $7 US) and, if you already own the Kindle version and want to add an audio version, you can do that for $1.99. There is a five-minute sample on the book page for each book. If you’re interested, click on any of the Dreamer’s Alliance book links below the image or on the link below for my latest book.

Bridge to Nowhere

  1. Each photo has a special perspective, Dan. Several of them are my favorites, the fog over the bridge, the half-circle stairs, under the tower, and Mimi!

    1. Thanks Miriam. Digging in the archives always lets me pick some favorites. I hope you have a wonderful week.

  2. What a great theme! I’m partial to the railroad bridge with its reflection, of course, but I also like the arched perspective under the Founders Bridge. Just looking at those stairs would be exercise enough for me. Good heavens, what a climb!

    1. We had a set of stairs like that at the end of our street. They saved so much walking compared to going around the hill, but they were a challenge. My brother took them to school for two years before we moved. I could have filled the gallery with bridges.

I hope you have a good week ahead.

      1. I cannot imagine taking those stairs every day! Yikes. I don’t doubt you’d have an impressive gallery of bridges! A good week to you too, Dan — thanks!

    1. If you put up a ladder, MiMi was certain to climb it. She often had to be rescued from the top, but she couldn’t resist climbing. I wanted to include a bunny, but I wasn’t sure I had an interesting perspective.

Okay, bunny butt is a winner! I like the photo of the bridge shrouded in fog. The mural under one bridge is fantastic!

Always a delight to see MiMi, climbing or curled up sleeping.

I wouldn’t have even attempted to climb that staircase of half circles! Nope! And that staircase in Pittsburgh? Fahgeddaboutit!!

You know I love seeing Old Glory’s reflection on the lid of the fire pit!

Happy Monday Day followed by a happy week.

    1. Thanks Ginger. MiMi’s climbing is one of the things I miss most about her, although she stayed close to the ground as she got older. She was in her glory when I had a scaffold platform stretched over two support beams during a renovation. If I left the ladder in place, she was on top of the world in a heartbeat.

My brother and I grew up climbing a set of stairs like that one. There are over 800 public staircases in Pittsburgh. Many of them are daunting climbs.

I had to find a bunny for River, and that’s one of my favorite flag captures.

Happy Monday – I hope you have a great week.

  8. All great photos today, Dan! I like looking up into the tower with that rope kind of suspended there. Such a cool shot. Our A/C access is through the door to the attic in our bedroom closet (whoever thought of that had to have been drinking on the job). Many years ago when the A/C guy was there, he had his ladder set up and there was Teemu, quietly climbing the steps right behind him. MiMi had me laughing. We had to get Teemu down, too.

  15. Lovely shots of bridges, Dan. Mumbai also has plenty of bridges, some pre-independence era as well. However, now most of them are in repair. These were not designed for heavy traffic but they still work. Also, in general, bridges often become the subject of controversies especially in the current environment when elections are due. Bridges collapse for some reason or the other and then the political mud-slinging begins in the media. So, I think it is a good thing that Mumbai does not have that many bridges. Also, building a bridge in India takes a hell lot of time. The new over-the-railway-track bridge where I live is only 75 yards and it took 5 years to build. Another important bridge in the Andheri area Gokhale Bridge (if you type in Google you might see the newest construction images) is still pending since 2018 and even now they did a misalignment so it will take another year to open. Apologies for ranting here but when I saw those lovely bridge images it stirred up my emotions.

    1. I replied to this comment last night, Sharukh. I’m not sure where that went. First off, ranting is allowed on this blog, as long as it’s not political. Second, A lot of Pittsburgh’s bridges are in need of repair. Three years ago, one collapsed. They were able to replace it in record time, but there are others in a similar condition. Bridges require a lot of maintenance, and it’s always expensive.

    1. I’ve been having issues with WP for two weeks. Having to login multiple times just to like or comment. It’s a pain. I’ve been across a few Mississippi bridges. I suppose crossing a big river tends to lean on tried and true methods.
