One week after returning from a short trip, and I forgot Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge. I normally schedule this post on Sunday evening. Oops. Let’s see what she gave us:

This week our topic is Things that are Cold. Please feel free to use either new or archived photos for this challenge.

Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge

I’m going to break through the ice forming over the archive this morning and see what I can find.

All five of my current books are now available in audio book form thanks to Amazon KDP’s Virtual Voice process. The voice is AI generated, but I can honestly say, it’s pretty darn good. The audio books are reasonably priced (all below $7 US) and, if you already own the Kindle version and want to add an audio version, you can do that for $1.99. There is a five-minute sample on the book page for each book. If you’re interested, click on any of the Dreamer’s Alliance book links below the image or on the link below for my latest book.

  1. Snow bunnies and snow covered squirrel are not going to like this week. We’re supposed to get a foot. It’s crazy…

    1. Yikes – a foot of snow in April. Good luck. We’re looking at a week of rain.

  2. Love the photos, Dan. It’s good to see Maddie again. The sun coming up behind the flag is great!

    1. Thanks GP. It’s hard not finding Maddie in the archives. I have a gazilion pictures of her.

      1. Just as she will be in our hearts.

  3. That bunny under the porch looks cold, poor thing. I find it interesting that Maddie doesn’t mind the wind – Puppy Cody is ok with cold, but freaks out whenever it’s windy.

    1. She was the strangest dog, CM. She would stand in the wind and sniff, all while we were hoping she’d pee.

It’s dang cold here too, but at least not below freezing at night.

Great gallery for the prompt. Love the frosted edges on the leaf and the ducks in the freezing water.

Sweet Maddie in her warm coat with her feathers flying in the wind, and the squirrel with a snow-covered nose are precious. Always love seeing Maddie.

I see the Antion Diner is packed as usual!

Beautiful shot of Old Glory in the morning sun.

    Happy Monday Dan!

    1. Antion’s Diner is open for business as usual, Ginger 😉 I walked this morning, still wearing a knit hat, gloves and a winter coat. The toll collectors were waiting for me when I returned.

I still miss walking with Maddie. We never had a dog that liked windy days as much as she did.

It looks like a cold and wet week ahead for us. The squirrels were busy stocking up on peanuts. I guess they know what’s coming.

I hope you have a nice week. Stay warm and dry if you can.

  5. Hope you had a wonderful Easter weekend, Dan. And I hope we both can start warming up to higher temps. We were spoiled with above normal temps in February, but March wasn’t quite as nice. We have been getting rain, though, something we need more than the bunnies who have been chomping on the tulip greens and whatever else they can find.

    2. We had a very nice weekend, Mary, I hope you did, too. We have some tulips that are growing, and some that look like they were put into a salad.

WP is flipping more and more people into the anonymous bucket these days.

      1. Yeah, a friend wanted to reply to my last post via his phone and said WP wouldn’t let him. Why do some apps and platforms like WP make navigating and commenting so difficult? No need to respond, don’t think there’s an answer.

  7. Snow Smokey is so cute! Our weather is all over the place. Up to about 80 today and tomorrow and then we have a cold snap–in the 40’s overnight.

  8. I love that leaf outline shot, as well as the leaf ice formation pic. Since I’m a big Fall/Winter person, I usually am drawn in by icy leaf shots. I saw ducks with umbrellas this morning, but at least we’re about 50 degrees.🙂

    1. Haha – In January, when it’s in the low 20’s and I see ducks slide into the water like it’s nothing, I cringe. I do like winter, but I don’t like being cold.

  9. My goodness! Your images really are chilling to look at…and that pile of snow…holy cow! I think I have to say I rather like the 6 inches at a time storms that melt fairly quickly in the subsequent couple of days. Stay warm.

    1. As long as we get enough to justify using the snowblower instead of a shovel, I’m good. Even the stuff that’s going to melt requires me to at least clear the sidewalk. Town ordinance.

  11. That leaf in the ice was cool with its icy patterns.

We’re still cold too. We had snow, hail, and rain Saturday into Sunday. Thankfully by noon yesterday the sun peeked out so we didn’t need to shovel.

Winter is definitely going out like a lion here.

    1. Yeah, spring is going to have to get tough and kick winter to the curb here. We’ll be stuck in the 30 – 40 range this week, with a bunch of rain coming.

      1. Ours is weird we’re jumping from low’s of 24 to a high tomorrow of 65 it says then back down to a high of 39 by week’s end.
Spring can be all over the place can’t it. Stay dry and warm!

  13. You’ve some great photos, Dan. Saturday was beautiful here and I even put out some flowers. Then we had an unexpected snowstorm that night. Sunday warmed up but fell back into freezing temps. It’s a wild time of the year! 😊

    1. I guess that’s what you get for putting out flowers, Gwen ;-) We have a “chance of snow” in the forecast, but I think it’s going to be mostly rain this week. I hope you have a good one.

  14. Yep, you’ve embodied cold with your photos. Will this winter ever end?

  16. We have a fire crackling in the hearth as I type this (chilly and damp here), so I’m glad I’m cozy inside after perusing your collection of photos, Dan. 😆

I really love the one of Smokie (is that Smokie?) with the snow on him!

    Liked by 1 person

    1. We could use a nice warm fire today, Mae. We call all the black squirrels “Smokey” and all the gray ones “Sammy” (that’s a long story). Unless there is something unusual enough to give them individual names. Last year, we had a very small one who remained small. We called him “Baby Smoke” We name some of the birds, too.

  21. We don’t have to look far for cold here this week. They speak of snow. I wish they were April-Fooling, but they’re probably not. Your winter leaves here are gorgeous, but that snow-nosed squirrel is just a con. He knows exactly how he looks and is probably wondering if maybe it’s worth TWO peanuts. Ducks on ice will make me shiver every time. Forgetting a bit of routine is a sure sign that a short trip was a great getaway.

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Haha – I think you’re right about that squirrel. He probably picked up some snow and packed it on his nose. They always get a peanut tossed to them, and then we throw out a handful that they can return to. I like your explanation as to why I forgot. I hope it warms up for both of us soon.

  26. We have some snow or wintry precip (they’re not sure) on Wednesday and Thursday. Oh joy, especially when we were close to 70 degrees a few days in February. Smoky with his snowy nose describes “cold” perfectly. Our squirrels are starting to lose their chubby physiques.

    1. Ours have slimmed down a bit, too. I hope our wet week arrives in the form of rain, but I’ll take whatever we get. It won’t be long until we’re hiding from the heat.

      1. It is raining very hard here now, but I think the volatile weather later tonight will stop at the state line and not come to SE Michigan. I do hate when we seem to bypass Spring and land in Summer’s heat and humidity.

            2. A fellow blogger in her mid 60s moved to North Carolina in 2023 after living in Connecticut her entire life. She loved the snow and had written how the last few years were so different from the Connecticut Winters she was accustomed to while growing up, remembering heavy snow blanketing her area, trudging through the woods in high boots, but not any longer.

            3. No. We haven’t had multiple 6″ or more snowfalls in any one year for the past several years, and we haven’t had any really big drops. I remember in the mid-90s, the ground having snow cover from Christmas Eve through early April.

            4. I grew up in Oakville, Ontario and it was the same for us too. We lived on a crescent and my dad had a VW Beetle and it was often covered over, looking like an igloo when he went to go to work in the morning.
