Cee is still recuperating (I hope she is doing well), so I thought I’d reuse one of her earlier Fun Foto Challenge prompts. As I visited the page, I realized that I skipped at least one of her prompts when I was posting short storis for the TDWC. So, I’m reaching back to May 23rd.

This week our topic is Alleys, Driveways, Parking Lots, Dirt Roads. Please feel free to use either new or archived photos for this challenge. Use your imagination and see what you can come up with. Be creative and have fun with this challenge.

Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge

Let’s see what I can find in the archives.

All five of my current books are now available in audio book form thanks to Amazon KDP’s Virtual Voice process. The voice is AI generated, but I can honestly say, it’s pretty darn good. The audio books are reasonably priced (all below $7 US) and, if you already own the Kindle version and want to add an audio version, you can do that for $1.99. There is a five-minute sample on the book page for each book. If you’re interested, click on any of the Dreamer’s Alliance book links below the image or on the link below for my latest book.

  1. Poor Cee, I hope she will be back online soon. Lovely photographs, Dan. I love the ones with the light best.

  2. You got a little bit of everything here! McGillin’s Olde Ale House — what a great name. I have the hunch I wouldn’t want to look closely at that Gum Wall, but I think I’d like a closer look at that old dirt road in the woods. The top photo takes me right back into your books; I pictured that back entrance a lot in parts of your stories.

    1. Thanks Maureen. You’re right, that photo represents the back entrance to Patsey’s. McGillin’s Olde Ale House is kind of in an alley. It doesn’t show well in the photo, and I certainly didn’t care. Any time I’m in Philadelphia, I’m going to stop there for a beer and a bit to eat. The gum wall. yeah, famous, but…

  4. Seems funny to see snow pictures, and I much prefer the photos to the real thing. :-)

    1. It’s a little comforting to see the snow in June, Judy. Each season brings its challenges. I have to cut the grass today. At least it’s supposed to stay relatively cool. I hope you have a good week.

McGillin’s Olde Ale House looks like a great place fora brew and some interesting conversations. Looking at your photos of the gum wall is close enough for me!

Those bunnies definitely have hollow legs. The puddle reflection is great. I’m sure that old dirt road leads to an interesting walk.

Beautiful shot of Old Glory against such a vivid blue sky.

Nice selection Dan. Hope you have a super nice day and that the rest of the week follows suit.

    1. Thanks Ginger. I hope you have a great day/week, as well. Not too hot today, and no snow, but I do have to cut the grass. We leave some high spots for the bunnies to enjoy, and I’m grateful to them for the edging they do. They are out enjoying their breakfast.

McGillin’s Olde Ale House is one of two places I always visited in Philly. The other was Texas Wieners. I hope they’re both still there.

  7. Does anyone bother o disinfect that gum wall?
I’d love to take a stroll down that dirt road into the woods!!

    1. I saw the gum wall quite a few years ago. They said that the city of Seattle power-washes the gum off but that it reappears. I don’t want to think about it.

      Dirt roads are always better.

  10. We’ve not had an update on Cee in a while, so I hope ‘no news is good news.’

That gum wall is so gross. I’m glad you took a picture, though! 😁

The pub looks great. I picture walking into the set of ‘Cheers.’

    1. Picture Cheers with a very low ceiling, Lois. But great beer, good food and a chance for some nice conversation.

I know you’d take a picture of that gum wall if you were there. It is gross if you stop to think about it.

I hope Cee is doing well, and will be back soon.

    1. I’m sure you would like it, Dale. The first time I went, it was to check the box on visiting the oldest bar in the city. I’ve been back every single time I’ve been to Philadelphia. I wouldn’t miss it.

  13. What wonderful images you’ve shared. When one lives in a busy city, alleyways can provide such a plethora of the interesting.

    1. In the older cities, some of these alleys were big enough to be streets at one point. In any case, there are some coo things in there, like McGillin’s Olde Ale House.

    1. Thanks Teagan. It’s always a good memory exercise to try and remember what was in an alley, or driveway or parking lot.

  16. I enjoyed this Dan. I love the dirt road, it brings to mind traveling to my grandparents farm that was off US 1 and then suddenly we turned down a dirt Road for a Mile or two crossing a wooden bridge and there it was a top a huge hill. Thank you Dan, loved this.

    1. That sounds like a lovely scene, Holly. I remember visiting relatives in Virginia. They had a large farm and there were many dirt roads around there.

  19. Personally, I do not like that Gum Wall. I know I know there is a history to it. I read it, but still, as Shania Twain says – That Don’t Impress Me Much. In India, we have red color tobacco spit marks all over the country. It’s disgusting.

    1. It wasn’t my favorite site in the city, Sharukh, but I was only there for a few days, and it was part of the scenery around that part of town. I don’t remember it being there when I lived in Seattle in the late 70s.
