It’s been a long time since we had a game of bird ball. The main reason is that Public Works sprays the fields to get rid of the insects the birds like to eat. During the dry spells we’ve had this month, I was able to capture enough pictures to put a game scenario in place.
Beneath the slide show are a few “necessary” photos. You know the flag and a bunny for River.
“I love seeing those sprinklers. The grass will be nice and cool.”
“I guess I better get over to the ball field.”
“On my way!”
“Leftover fair food – one of my favorite things for breakfast.”
“I’m caw-ing this game. I better find a high perch.”
“Eat up, boys. We got a big game today. We’re undefeated against the crows and big birds.”
“Someone fly up there and tell Slow Joe he’s looking at the wrong field.”
“If Slow Joe can’t find the field, I can caw the game from here.”
“It’s gonna be a hot one. I’m staying in the shade for a while.”
“I’m telling you, you little guys don’t have a chance today. The Mourning Doves are playing with us.”
“Let’s get ready. The big birds are up first. We’re playing with them today.”
“Come on Slick. We’re up first”
“We’re up first. Let’s get our lineup sorted.”
“Finish breakfast, guys. We got a game to play.”
“Let’s go guys. The big birds are up first.”
“Come on, let’s show some hustle. You’re birds, you know, you could fly to the outfield.”
“First base is covered, Chickie’s at shortstop. Let’s play ball.”
“These little guys don’t hit far, but they’re fast moving around the bases and hard to tag.”
“Look sharp guys. This guy’s a lefty. Hit can hit to the opposite field.”
“Alright you guys, let’s look alive out here. Bobby, you can look for bugs later, the big birds are up.”
“Come on, this guy can’t hit. No Batter-No Batter!”
“Ok, three up, three down. No damage. Now it’s our turn.”
“Let’s get up on the backstop so we can cheer our guys on. We can eat later.”
“OK, ok, let’s go. Chickie, you’re up first. Let’s try to get on base.”
And now for a few pictures for non-sports fans

I’d like to remind people that When Evil Chooses You, the third book in the Dreamer’s Alliance Series is on sale for $0.99 until July 6th. You can get there from the link below.
All five of my current books are now available in audio book form thanks to Amazon KDP’s Virtual Voice process. The voice is AI generated, but I can honestly say, it’s pretty darn good. The audio books are reasonably priced (all below $7 US) and, if you already own the Kindle version and want to add an audio version, you can do that for $1.99. There is a five-minute sample on the book page for each book. If you’re interested, click on any of the Dreamer’s Alliance book links below the image or on the link below for my latest book.
For a non-sports fan, you managed to have me laughing and enjoying the pending bird ball game! I would actually come and watch it! I hope the Mourning Doves won!
The photo of the squirrel and bunny should be framed. Love seeing Old Glory reflected in the fire pit.
Happy July Dan. Hope you slide into this month easily and continue to glide smoothly through it.
I was so happy to see bird ball back! These guys haven’t changed a bit–wrong field, always eating….but no batter-batter?! Hilarious, Dan. I loved this.
I’m glad you enjoyed it, Lois. It takes longer to gather enough photos (and then I forget where they are). But there’s one field they aren’t using, so they aren’t spraying it.
The hawk did not get the squirrel. I’ve never been so close to a hawk before, but I managed to scare him away. He was in our yard when I came home from a walk (I had seen him while walking),
I think Bird Ball may be the next big thing on ESPN, Dan…as long as all on-field discussions are being broadcast as the play-by-play. Glad to hear the squirrel avoided the hawk. That could have ended badly…for the squirrel, of course.
Yeah, I think we have to mic all of them, Bruce. There’s a lot of chatter out there.
The hawk and squirrel photo was from an old post. I found the hawk in our front yard. I walked up to him and he didn’t fly away. I was able to get closer than I wanted to be before he flew into the tree. He finally flew across the street.
