Important Notice: I will be taking a break from my blog from August 3rd until August 12th. Accordingly, There will be no Thursday Doors on August 8th and no Recap on August 11th. In addition, while Thursday Doors will run as normal next week, (August 1st) there may not be a complete recap on August 4th.

Now that we have that out of the way, let’s go back to Reiman Gardens. If you were hear last week, you know these public gardens are located in Ames, Iowa. My brother took me there while I was visiting him in June. Most of the photos in today’s gallery are birdhouses. I don’t have much more to say, other than I find these little houses adorable.

I hope you’re having a great week. I appreciate the comments by those of you who read my short story yesterday. Since that was a long read, I’ll end this post here. The captions should serve.

I do hope you’ll take a few minutes to check out some of the other participant’s doors.

Pittsburgh reporter Rachael Todd has a hard deadline — and it’s personal. Her friend is a murder suspect. He knew the victim. He has a strong motive and a weak alibi. Rachael’s certain he is being framed, and she’ll have to live up to her nickname “Rascal” to clear him. Rascal sees a connection to an earlier crime. The clock is ticking as she digs through multiple layers of legal and bureaucratic misdeeds, crimes, and evidence that the police ignored.

Is a crime solved when the criminals are identified, or only after they are brought to justice? This is a mystery born from that question. The story includes many twists and turns, even after the crime is solved. It features characters, including the bad guys, that grow in ways that might surprise you, and well-researched circumstances that will take you from delight to frustration while moving you close to the edge of your seat—sound interesting? If it does, this book is for you.

  8. Lovely images. I loved the last image which could be a good fit for the raven. It gives a nice spooky vibe. Just a question, are these birdhouses easy to assemble/dismantle? I mean what if they keep pooping inside? The reason this question came to my mind is that during the rainy season, which is nowadays here, sparrows use my balcony for shade and sleep on my clothesline. In the morning, there is so much poop on the floor that I can tell where they rested for the night.

    1. That’s a good question, Sharukh. The one birdhouse we have has a hidden removable panel. You can open one side and clean out the old nesting material and anything else that’s accumulated. I’m guessing the raven’s house probably lifts off the base. At least that’s how I would handle the access.

The ones that did come through are wonderful — a birdhouse with a porch! Now if that isn’t something! The red gate all by itself must cause a lot of smiles. What a great place that is! I love bird houses, especially these! That camper is sooo cute. What a creative addition to the gardens, whether they house residents or not. If it involves woodworking Dan, especially working with scraps, you won’t be daunted. You will be right in your element! Perfect project for you!

The exterior door lock set plate for an entrance, the outhouse, a porch and the spooky house are all outstanding. This has been a grand tour Dan. I think you should make one that looks like a tobacco barn!

Enjoy the rest of the week. Is it just me, or are the days slipping by faster than they used to?
