I’ve missed Linda G. Hill’s One-Liner Wednesday two weeks in a row. I’m going to pay back the One-Liner fans, with interest.

WordPress says it’s AI can write a blog post for me, but WordPress can’t remember who I am.

I announced that I was taking a break from blogging, which I did. I suggested that I would still be visiting some blogs (because I enjoy doing that). If you received a Like from me, please know that I struggled to get that to happen. If you got a comment from me, please know that I wrestled WordPress the the ground to make that happen. I’m not saying that to brag or garner sympathy, but for one solid week, WordPress treated me like persona non grata. Every single time I tried to do anything, I had to login—sometimes, several times. Maybe they should deploy some AI in the blogger recognition department.

Seeing a ballgame in person is fun, even when your team loses.

I’m trying to stick with the one-line thing here, but there’s more to add. My brother and I attended a Pirates game on Sunday August 4th. It was 92°f (33°c) and very humid. Since we only go to one game a year, and since Pirates tickets are very reasonably priced, we purchase club-level seats. After a few innings, my iPhone said it was too hot—seriously, it flashed a message saying it was hot. I told it I was hot, too. I reminded my brother that the club was airconditioned and had the game on closed-circuit TV. We moved to the bar.

Halloween is when?

On our last day in town, we decided to visit the family graves. When our daughter and I visited the graves in March, we noticed that the flag on my father’s grave was broken, and the veterans flag holder was bent. Faith straightened the holder and put the remaining bit of flag in it. We stopped at a grocery store to see if they had flags. They had lots of lawn decorations, but no flag. The lady there told me to “check in seasonal.” No flags there, but a large display of Halloween candy. On my way out, I asked at the service desk. The man said, “We only have flags from Memorial Day until the forth of July.

Family matters

We stopped at the first cemetery, but the entrance road was under some sort of maintenance construction. We thought about walking, but then it started to rain. We waved toward the graves and said “hi.” We then drove to our parents’ grave. We were pleasantly surprised to find that the rain had stopped, and the broken flag had been replaced.

The best part of a vacation is arriving back at home.

I don’t think I have to add anything to that one.

All five of my current books are now available in audio book form thanks to Amazon KDP’s Virtual Voice process. The voice is AI generated, but I can honestly say, it’s pretty darn good. The audio books are reasonably priced (all below $7 US) and, if you already own the Kindle version and want to add an audio version, you can do that for $1.99. There is a five-minute sample on the book page for each book. If you’re interested, click on any of the Dreamer’s Alliance book links below the image or on the link below for my latest book.

  2. Hi Dan welcome back! WordPress can be a nightmare I know exactly what you mean in fact I believe we have all had your experience at one point! In fact I was actually locked out once for a week! No idea why either.

I am so glad to hear that you had a great time with your brother, Sadie looks lovely is she an old girl bless.

it’s good that your parents grave is sorted especially your dad’s part and his flag is sorted.

    Gosh the shop over there

    seem keen

    for Halloween 🎃

I agree it’s always great to get home after a break even when you’ve had the best time and seen family! Back to the norm is good and it’s always great that the wildlife has not forgotten you 🙂 Have a good week 💜😁

Halloween is busting out in every store. I guess they need to get it out of the way so they can roll out the Christmas decorations. Retail stores rush the holidays, hoping to milk every last dime out of us. We don’t buy much candy. If I bought it now, it would be long gone by October.

      Have a good week!

  3. My WordPress won’t ever let me comment on anyone’s blog until I log back in, every single time on every individual blog, which drives me nuts – it’s done that for months -but if I comment directly on the Reader it’s OK :-)

    1. It is aggravating, Ruth. I wasn’t reading a lot of blogs, but, sadly, some I read and left no trace. I think I know why this was happening, but I didn’t have time to explore the options. It’s good to be back.

    1. I was about to buy a taco bowl when I spied the pierogi bowl on the menu. After he was done building it, the guy asked if I wanted pickles – what the heck, I thought. They were so good, I would have liked more. They also have a footlong hot dog that is topped with pierogies, pot roast, caramelized onions, and pickles. Food is a serious thing in Pittsburgh.

The bunnies are still here, although it looks like some of the babies have grown up and moved on.

  6. Welcome home and glad you had a good visit even if your phone needed a cold one. :-) As for WordPress, well, I wish they’d just leave stuff alone instead of sending a weekly message telling us what they’ve changed. Not much chance of that happening. :-)

    1. Thanks Judy. It’s good to be home. My phone enjoyed sitting in the bar. It was a good way to watch the game, too. Lots of people, lots of noise and being close to a bar never hurts. I’ve noticed WordPress has fixed one annoying problem, but that was only affecting Jetpack on my phone. I hope they get around to the others, but I think they prefer adding new features to fixing old ones. I hope you have a good week.

  9. I got stuck at the pierogi bowl. Just had to stare at it. Who does that to pierogi? In 90-degree heat no less! People at ball parks must have cast-iron stomachs — and no Polish grandmothers rolling in their graves! Speaking of which, that’s a lovely church, and equally lovely to think of the cemetery nearby. Church and cemetery as neighbors — there’s history. Pierogi, family graves, ball game with brother….it all makes more sense than WordPress.

    1. Sorry to twist your stomach in knots, but that pierogi bowl was so good, Maureen. I know it must have some Polish women spinning in their graves, but it was good. My wife thought it sounded good until I mentioned that it also had hot dog slices in it. That was a deal breaker, but she’d never be at the ballpark anyway. The cemetery has been on that land as long as I can remember. The church was only finished after 2010, but they make a good pair.

  10. Nice job catching up on one-liners Dan. Looks like you and your brother had another great week together. Sadie looks like a sweetheart.

Halloween? Say it isn’t so! Your grandmother’s church is a beautiful building. I’d love to see inside.

Your phone letting you know that ‘it’ was too hot just blows my mind. But it made you and your brother move inside into air conditioning and that was a good thing.

Glad a new flag was placed on your dad’s gravesite, as it should be.

I have no doubt the critters did a Happy Dance when they knew you were home! Linus’ Pumpkin Patch is too funny.

    1. Thanks Ginger. It’s good to be home. We had a fun week. The heat let up after the first couple days, so that was good. We had inside stuff to do, so we were able to stay in AC spaces during the hot days.

Sadie is a sweetheart. I think she’s 14. I had met her a few years ago and I was glad to see her again.

Sorry about the Halloween candy and decorations, but it’s a thing. I ran to our local store yesterday and the Halloween display was huge.

I’d never seen my phone get that hot before. It was a good message though. Watching the game inside the nice cool club was fun. There was a loud boisterous crowd, and easy access to the bar.

My wife takes good care of the critters, so I’m not sure they missed me, but I was happy to see them. The pumpkin plants are everywhere. Linus has been busy. The bunnies eat the leaves, and the squirrels actually eat the blossoms. We’re not sure who eats the pumpkins, but someone does. We’re fine with that because they aren’t eating the garden.

The new flag on Dad’s grave was a pleasant sight, as was the one at the park. I hope you have a great week.

  12. I’m so sorry about the WordPress SNAFU, Dan. Of course, if you contact the “Happiness Engineers,” they will try to convince you that it is all in your cache or browser or somewhere else. I still get anonymous comments from folks who follow me, even after they comment and reply to my comment. WP says it’s their problem. It is frustrating. I also believe some folks are not getting notifications because I get comments from people thinking I have been on a break. I’m at a point where I just have to let the system ride when there is a problem. There is no help at WP. Your trip sounds like it was a good one. I’m glad that flag got replaced.

  13. Welcome back, Dan. AI and WP…doesn’t that sound like a combo from hell?

Flags only from Memorial Day to Fourth of July…oh, gosh. But Christmas can go from September to after New Years?! ‘Something’s not right’ is an understatement.

We’ve been enjoying going up to Reno to see the Reno Aces for a couple of years now. They feed the AZ Diamondbacks. They pulled up the best pitcher so this season our Aces have been struggling a bit, but they are fun watch even when they lose. 😊

The Aces used to be the Silver Socks named after the silver that was found in the Comstock days. I kinda wish they still were the Silver Socks. Last week on Weds. night’s game they wore a special jersey with the Silver Socks name and the announcers called them the Silver Socks all night. It was cool.

I think it safe to say we’ve all had our issues and complaints when it comes to WordPress (and, don’t get me started with Blogger’s platform as well-technology isn’t biased one bit and Google seems particularly hell bent on causing mischief particularly if you use Apple hardware it seems). I will resist going to AI to my dying breath. Haven’t seen anything that makes me want to involved. Jeez, I’m starting to sound like one of those “get off my lawn” peeps. Sigh.
