Happy Saturday! David and I relaxing at the bar, although neither of us did anything today to relax from. We did have busy weeks though, and it’s nice to kick back before we start worrying about football. I know, a lot of you avoid sports, but September only comes at this point in the year, and with baseball ending and hockey getting ready to begin, we have to squeeze football in now. I promise, I’ll go light on the sports stuff in the future, but some of it does fit the prompt, and there are bonus points at stake.

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “tack/tech/tick/tock/tuck.’” Use one or use ’em all for the bonus points. Enjoy!

Stream of Consciousness Saturday — Linda G. Hill

If we were having a beer, you’d have to ask about football.

“Good afternoon, Dan. Did we have a bet on that game between West Virginia and Penn State?”

“No, David. We did not, and yes, it’s your week to buy. And, by the way, I’m hungry, so plan on tacking some food on that tab.”

“Hey guys. Did I hear someone say they were hungry? We have roasted chicken corn chowder today, and it’s delicious.”

“That sounds good, Cheryl. I’ll have a bowl and a Modelo.”

“I’ll skip the soup, but I’ll have a John Howell’s Special.”

“Soup and the usuals, coming right up.”

“I have to say, Dan, WVU didn’t lose as badly as I thought they might. I tried watching, but that delay was miserable, tick-tock-tick-tock, how long did that last?’

“A little over two hours. Can’t have our boys getting hit by lightning.”

“How did your other teams do?”

“Pitt won. Iowa State won, and Georgia won.”

“You went to Pitt for graduate school — for your tech stuff. Your brother went to Iowa State. Explain to me again how you claim a stake in Georgia’s glory.”

“I went there my freshman year. I saw the Bulldogs play six home games, including one against Alabama’s Crimson Tide, in SEC terms, that counts.”

“Did they beat Alabama?”

“No. But the stadium was full.”

“Was it called Dooley Field back then?”

“No, Vince Dooley was still coach. You never honor someone while they still have a chance to screw up, like Penn State coach…”

“Don’t go there, Dan. No politics and no scandals. How big is that stadium?”

“It seats over ninety thousand people today. It wasn’t nearly that big when I was there.”

“In a break from the past, I’ll skip any discussion of pro-football. Things still don’t look good for my Patriots.”

“I’m rooting for them tomorrow.”

“Why? I thought you hated the Patriots.”

“I do, but they’re playing the Bengals. I’m rooting for them and — although it may cause my father to roll over in his grave — I’m rooting for Dallas.”

“Let’s see, the Ravens lost to Kansas City, so Dallas must be playing the Browns.”

“Yes, and if all my dreams come true, The Steelers will be on top of the AFC North.”

“Of course, your dream includes your guys beating the Falcons in Atlanta — that’s a series of tall orders.”

“Hey, Atlanta is one of the teams I root for. Go easy on them. You guys want another round?”

“We do, Cheryl. It’s way too early to get excited about football, anyway.”

“Tall orders are what this season is all about, David. It’s the life of a fan.”

“I guess you’re right, Dan. But it’s a damn site easier being a fan when your team is winning.”

“Well, with any luck, our quarterbacks will get the ball to a guy who can tuck it in and run to the house.”

The wonderful blogger and author, D.L.Finn posted a delightful review of Bridge to Nowhere. I will reblog her review on Tuesday, but if you’d like to take a look before then, click here and head over.

All five of my current books are now available in audio book form thanks to Amazon KDP’s Virtual Voice process. The voice is AI generated, but I can honestly say, it’s pretty darn good. The audio books are reasonably priced (all below $7 US) and, if you already own the Kindle version and want to add an audio version, you can do that for $1.99. There is a five-minute sample on the book page for each book. If you’re interested, click on any of the Dreamer’s Alliance book links below the image or on the link below for my latest book.

  5. “Sun setting over the Amazon” used to conjure up quite a different image! How the horizon has changed! The flowers are beautiful, celebrating another season. Your lilac looks a lot better than mine, which is still fried. Congrats on the bonus points!

    1. Yeah, that sunset used to be over sprawling tobacco fields and about 15 tobacco barns. It was marvelous. This isn’t nearly as nice. That lilac is a defiant little bugger. It’s the oldest one in the yard, and it seems to want to show off.

Lovely bunny pics. They look healthy and happy…

    1. The bunnies seem to be healthy. We have a lot more than we’ve had in previous years. I hope there’s enough for them all to eat during the winter.

  7. Lilac blossoms in September, hmm. Not to go deep into climate change, but… Have a great weekend, Dan, and enjoy your blooms.

    1. Thanks Judy. This is the second year this lilac has bloomed again. Last year, it was in early October. Our honeysuckle is also blooming again. Something’s not normal. Have a great weekend!

  8. I added the ingredients to Teagan’s mushrooms to be certain I enjoy kickoff weekend!
I sure can’t blame Chippy from hiding from the sun!

    1. Good luck to your team(s) GP. Those mushrooms would be a great game day snack.

  9. You certainly earned those bonus points Dan! Nicely and cleverly done.

Lilacs blooming again! And still there are those who insist there is no climate change! Good grief!

Give me the sunset over the barn and tobacco field any time. If Amazon saw that photo they would find a way to market it and make more millions!

Chippy in the drain pipe. Adorable. I hope a sudden, fierce downpour doesn’t come up because Chippy will have the surprise of his life!

I had to take a second look at Smokey to make sure that’s a peanut in his mouth and he wasn’t sticking his tongue out at you! :+)

Old Glory is looking mighty fine at sunrise (can’t say the same for myself!) with the sun reflecting off the pole.

Hope a great weekend is in store for you with a pleasant week to follow.

    1. Thanks Ginger. I have an even more flattering to Amazon photo that I didn’t post. It’s the sunset that’s impressive, not the warehouse.

Lilacs and honeysuckle are blooming, and we have two buds on one of our rhododendrons that are starting to open.

Chippy has broken into the drain tile all over the yard. He uses is as an express lane series of tunnels. I’m sure he’s used to water rushing through. Smokey is always polite ;-)

I love being out there walking closer to sunset. So many interesting bits of light and shadow.

I hope you have a great weekend/week ahead. Looks like we might get wet.

  11. I had hoped for my team’s win in Brazil, but now I have to worry about Love’s injury. Ugh. I hope the Steelers come out with a win. Sorry, can’t root for Dallas or the Patriots, but will always root for our teams until they play one another.

Have a wonderful fall football weekend, Dan!

    1. I was sad to read about Love getting injured. I hate to see that. It’s hard to root for Dallas or the Patriots, but in this case, it could be helpful, although Dallas, less so than NE. I do root for Green Bay, and I will continue to until we meet again.

I hope you have a nice easy Sunday, Mary.

  12. (Shakes head) Dan, I must need more coffee. When I looked at that header image I was worried, because for some reason, I thought it was a hospital. Admittedly, after learning about “vampire pumpkins and watermelons” it would have been worse if I had first seen “Linus’ pumpkins look like they’re trying to come inside”. LOL.

This was a fun critter-filled post. Hugs.

    1. It’s funny, Teagan. The stadium is directly across from the medical complex at WVU. I mentioned the Vampire Pumpkins to my wife when she pointed out how one seems to be coming toward where she sits in the morning.

Faith saw Linus’ pumpkin patch for the first time today. I think she left shaking her head. But she understands and supports the decision to let them grow.

  13. Are David and I going to come to blows? He’s rooting for the Pats? **shaking my head**

    Liked by 1 person

    1. David always roots for NE. I never do, unless they’re playing an AFC North team and can help Pittsburgh. You have to do something when, ideally, you want both teams to lose.

      Liked by 1 person

  14. I guess the WVU game could have been worse. I waited for the rain delay hoping that the two hours gave the coaches time to come up with a way to win. Didn’t happen. My Irish shut down those Aggies though. That felt good.

    1. I had the same thought, John. Two hours should have been enough time to change the game plan. Good job on your end.

  15. He-Man and his cousin, and he and his best friend have been talking foot-ball since the draft and now game line ups and talking about the pre-season games, plays everything football! I don’t think it ever stops with those 3. 😂

We went to our last Aces game on the 4th. They’re going to the playoffs! We’ll miss them in the off season so I asked He-Man to start looking for tickets to a Wolf Pack games to fill the void.

You know we’re rooting for the Steelers in the house.

Well done getting “all” the bonus points, Dan!!

  17. Ahh, the delicate balance of figuring out who to root for. We have an embarrassment of riches today: the penultimate stage of La Vuelta (cycling), two rugby games to catch up on, and the Nebraska game later this afternoon. 😳. Watched the Eagles beat the Packers last night in Brazil. 😢. Have a great weekend.
