Column and Vertical Line(s)

Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge

Last week was full of delightful surprises for me. Three different people posted reviews of my latest novel: Bridge to Nowhere. I know that many of you follow the bloggers who were so kind, but in case you missed them, I’ve listed them below. Below that are some photos from my archive for Cee’s challenge.

Happy Monday

September Book Reviews — Author D.L. Finn

Smorgasbord Book Reviews — Sally Cronin

Reading Binge — Kim Smyth

Again, I send my deep appreciation to these friends, bloggers and fellow authors. This community is a wonderfully supportive place.

All five of my current books are now available in audio book form thanks to Amazon KDP’s Virtual Voice process. The voice is AI generated, but I can honestly say, it’s pretty darn good. The audio books are reasonably priced (all below $7 US) and, if you already own the Kindle version and want to add an audio version, you can do that for $1.99. There is a five-minute sample on the book page for each book. If you’re interested, click on any of the Dreamer’s Alliance book links below the image or on the link below for my latest book.

    1. Thanks Brian. I love lines, but I was amazed at how hard it was to find photos dominated by vertical lines.

  4. These are some great columns and lines! The Hartford Times building is a beauty, as is that photo of the city at twilight (or so it appears), but my very favorite is that sepia-toned snow-and-tracks image — that is outstanding! Congratulations on the reviews — nice feathers in a writer’s cap!

    1. Thanks! I have many attempts to capture the image of those tracks at that crossing, but that’s my favorite. I’m glad you like it.

  5. You certainly aced the challenge! I love the towers, especially the clock tower. And the train tracks filled in with snow makes a super picture. I also like the photo of the old chimneys! The Hartford Times building is impressive.

    Old Glory looking mighty fine.

Happy Monday Dan. Have a great week.

    1. Thanks Ginger. I didn’t recognize you at first. I’m not sure clock towers count as columns but they include vertical lines, so I think I’m ok.

Of course, I could have filled the page with photos of the flag. Choosing one was the hard part.

Happy Monday and you have a good week, too.

  6. We can always count on you to ace any challenge, Dan!
I know Old Glory well, in fact I used one of yours today for the Farewell Salutes, called “Reflected Glory”.

    1. I saw that flag, GP. I’m always proud when you put one next to the farewell salutes. That flag flies proudly over the Veterans Memorial and I think it would be happy to be flying over the people you remember.

  7. The various vertical-themed photos are a great sight, Dan! And poignant to see the Twin Towers. I was working in Manhattan (about two miles north of the World Trade Center) when 9/11 happened. :-(

  8. Your header photo is beautiful, Dan. What an angle! The two chimneys and the old Hartford Times building are wonderful. That is a pretty huge building for one newspaper, though. They had that many people employed there?

    1. Thanks Lois. The Hartford Times was the competing paper to The Hartford Courant. There’s a book, Spiked, that covers the nasty competitive history between the two papers. It details things like the Courant sending people around to but bricks in the sale boxes on the streets. Of course, being a fan of the underdog, I think I would have liked the Times. I was disappointed that UConn moved into the building, but I was happy that they preserved such an important building in the city.

  10. Congratulations on the reviews, Dan. I hope they bring more readers to your books.

The towers and columns are wonderful. It’s hard to pick a favorite but, today it’s your low light image of Traveler’s Tower and the skyline for me.

    1. Thanks Deborah. I miss stopping at the park every morning. I don’t miss the fact that I was on my way to work, but…

  13. Congrats on the reviews, Dan! All wonderful and a good enticement for me to start your book. And fun photos. I never notice the “shapes” in photos unless I’m looking for them. :-)

  14. I like the train track photos especially. And at least they didn’t tear the Harford Times building down.

    Congratulations on your reviews! (K)

    1. That’s what I tell myself, Kerfe. I’m not fond of the occupant (and the fact that they don’r pay any taxes) but I’m glad that handsome building remains in our city.

      1. I definitely agree about the taxes. Too many special exemptions.

    1. Thanks Liz. I have made lots of attempts to photograph those tracks. That’s my favorite version.
