Before I get to Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge for this week, I have two changes to share. Well, one change and one update.

The change is more important to those of you who receive and read these posts via email. I read a post by Brian Dodd (bushboys world) yesterday. Brian explained that those pop-ups I’ve been seeing on people’s blogs after I leave a comment (the ones asking me to sign up for email alerts) are probably showing on my blog. Fortunately, Brian also told me how to turn those notifications off.

I guess this is something that WordPress added and turned on without asking us to opt-in. I prefer opting-in to having to opt-out after discovering that I’ve been annoying people. In any case, I did turn that feature off. That setting is stored in the Settings, under Newsletter. The other setting that I found is the change I want to tell you (the email readers) about. Although the full text of my posts are in the email, along with the photos in the gallery, the Featured Photo has not been included. It should be included today.

The next bit of news is for participants of Thursday Doors. We’ve gained a lot of new participants since I last posted the “Rules” if you will. I was going to describe these things in this post (I hear you groan) but I decided to create a page where that information resides. If you’re interested, you can visit that page. You will also find that page available off the Thursday Doors menu in the header.

The topic this week is Horizontal Line(s). Please feel free to use either new or archived photos for this challenge. Use your imagination and see what you can come up with. Be creative and have fun with this challenge.

Cee’s Fun Foto Chalenge

Okay — let’s see what we can find in the archive. Note: I may be late relying to comments or visiting your blogs today.

All five of my current books are now available in audio book form thanks to Amazon KDP’s Virtual Voice process. The voice is AI generated, but I can honestly say, it’s pretty darn good. The audio books are reasonably priced (all below $7 US) and, if you already own the Kindle version and want to add an audio version, you can do that for $1.99. There is a five-minute sample on the book page for each book. If you’re interested, click on any of the Dreamer’s Alliance book links below the image or on the link below for my latest book.

  1. Hey, yes, your lead photo is there. I haven’t been getting the pop up, but then I don’t always comment.

  2. That’s an impressive collection of lines! Thanks for the tip about the comments. Commenting has become a real pain in the neck, and now I know to check to see if my blog is doing the same thing to readers. It’s such a clumsy, redundant requirement. Thanks also for the word “catenary.” A new one for me! Now if I can only remember it…

    1. I have a hard time with “catenary.” I always remember it has something to do with cats and canaries (which, of course, it doesn’t). Given the ongoing issues around comments, I certainly didn’t want to add any pain to the process.

  3. You have expended your horizontals Dan, great photos.
Thanks for spreading the pop up news

  4. PS I also read the “rules” again lol

    1. I’m not good with enforcing rules. Generally, if you think it’s a door, it’s a door. I need to revise them to make it clear that portals and doorways count.

      1. Good idea, I didn’t think of those. Sheree has some great portals

  5. Since it is early and I’ve only had one cup of coffee, I need to confirm the WordPress steps. Under Settings/Newsletter, turn off ‘enable subscription pop-up for commenters.’ Also, under email on the same page, turn on, enable featured image. Thank you as always for the tech support.

  7. I have the featured photo today! Yaayyy!

You did a great job with Cee’s challenge. Love seeing Maddie on her deck, but I must confess it brings tears to my eyes for her and my Murphy. They crossed the Rainbow Bridge one week apart.

Smokey’s shadow looks like a duck sitting in a small puddle of water.

This is a great collection of horizontal lines. I particularly like the shade tobacco fields.

Hope today is the start of a great week for you.

    1. Thanks Ginger. It’s always hard to include a picture of Maddie. It reminds me of sitting out there with her. She loved sitting out there so much. But it’s good to remember how much love she shared. I miss Murphy, too. I have to think they’re up looking down on us, lounging around and keeping each other company.

      I think you’re right about Smokey’s shadow :-)

We went to the Big-E today, so it was a great day. I hope you have a great week.

  10. Thank you for the help with that , Dan! I see that pop up on several blogs I visit after commenting.

I’ll reread the Thursday Door rules again next.

You found a lot of neat horizontal lines in your archives!

    1. Thanks. I realized that I have to add a few things to those rules. There are other things that qualify as doors (if you think it’s a door, it’s a door).

  13. Thanks for the info about the pop-ups and how to opt out. Ugh…I was ruminating only yesterday about how much better I liked WordPress when I first started blogging. They can never leave a “good enough” thing alone, or am I just old and stuck in my ways?

Nice photos, Dan. Seeing the photo of Maddie, I realize I miss your furry kids. Don’t you need a puppy or kitten, solely for blogging purposes? ;-)

    1. I was happy to pass this information on from Brian. I don’t mind the changes, but I’d rather know they were coming and have the option to opt-in instead of the feature being turned on without my knowing.

We miss Maddie and the cats, but we’re not ready for new pets. Having had and lost four dogs over 38 years was such a mix of good times and sadness, it’s hard to consider doing it again.

  14. Cranes outside the Javits–what a great shot that is, Dan! I like it a lot.

Question for you: I went to Settings>Newsletter. On Home Page and Navigation, my setting was OFF for subscriptions pop-up. But under Comments it is ON for ‘enable subscriptions pop-up for commenters.’ But I’m guessing it has always been this way because I had no idea about this setting. Do you get this message on my blog when you comment? Now I am really confused. Thanks.

    Liked by 1 person

    1. I don’t get the message on your site, but I subscribe via email, so maybe it doesn’t matter for me. I’m not sure if this pop-up for those who don’t subscribe, but I see it a lot. I have buttons on my site to make it easy for people to sign up. I do not like pop-up ads.

I love visiting the Javits Center.

  15. Why does the lumber rack have to go? Great lines photos, and I always love seeing the redhead, even if it hurts.

    Liked by 1 person

    1. The lumber rack had to go because I expended my workshop into the room behind that rack. Today, there are two doorways through that wall. Posting a picture of Maddie is always hard for me, but I remember how much we loved her and how much she loved us.

  18. Hi Dan. I had not been getting the pop-up at your blog. However, I did see the option you described was enabled on my settings. I have no idea if anyone has been getting the pop-up at my place, but I changed it anyway. I figured I might as well go ahead and do that while I’m digging into the guts of a dozen sites to make changes because of my credit card being hacked… Everybody wants payment info updated, even though their payment isn’t due yet. Sigh.

    Hugs.

    1. Thanks Teagan. I am sorry you have to go through that process. I don’t think too many people get the pop-ups, but I’ve seen many of them. I don’t want to annoy a first time visitor. Good luck with those updates.

  19. Our mutual blogger friend, Frank @ Beach Walk Reflections, tipped me off this morning and I too made the change. Of course, I’ve been grumbling about it since like you, I’d rather opt in than irritate folks and needed to opt out later. With apologies for the inadvertent irritation and gratitude for the heads up. Let’s hope the rest of the week goes smoothly.

As always, a lovely gallery, Dan. Especially love your Maddie pics.

  22. I agree that the pop-up box can be annoying, especially when you’re already subscribed to the blog. On the other hand, it makes it easy for new visitors to subscribe if they want. I am so OVER all the WP problems. Just with they were over me. :) Good luck. Love the photos!
