This past weekend, the SyFy Channel celebrated the 65th anniversary of the Twilight Zone with a marathon where they aired 65 episodes from the original series. I was way too young to be watching that show when it originally aired, but my brother was old enough and I wanted to follow his example. Some of those episodes still scare me.

In between a few football games, I tuned into the marathon. I have a Roku device, and after watching several episodes in a row, Roku flashed a message on the screen. It wanted to know if I was still watching this particular channel.

I had seen messages like that on streaming platforms like Netflix, but I never saw it from Roku.

Of course I want to continue watching — it’s the Twilight Zone!

One-Liner Wednesday — Linda G. Hill

The gallery includes some photos from my morning walks. The sun is rising later and it’s low in the sky as I walk. I hope you enjoy the photos. By the way, do you see a face in the featured photo at the top?

All five of my current books are now available in audio book form thanks to Amazon KDP’s Virtual Voice process. The voice is AI generated, but I can honestly say, it’s pretty darn good. The audio books are reasonably priced (all below $7 US) and, if you already own the Kindle version and want to add an audio version, you can do that for $1.99. There is a five-minute sample on the book page for each book. If you’re interested, click on any of the Dreamer’s Alliance book links below the image or on the link below for my latest book.

  1. The light is just lovely, Dan! A chill came over me at the mention of the Twilight Zone… and faces…

    1. Thanks Jo. That a show can cause chills after 65 years says something about the quality of the writing and production. I don’t think there’s another show like it.

    1. We haven’t been seeing as much of them now that it’s getting colder. The one under the quince dug out a soft spot and likes to lie there in the morning.

    1. I’ll be sharing leaf shadow creatures and fall colors as long as we have them. I’ll be watching the Twilight Zone forever.

      1. Did you ever see a show called The Outer Limits. That was a good series too

        1. Yes, I also love The Outer Limits. My favorite episode is “Demon With A Glass Hand”

  7. That leaf portrait at the top is beautiful! It will be no surprise that I do not see a face in it — that’s why you’re the story-teller and I’m not! That’s a great capture of Sammy with his prize in his mouth, and what a handsome tail! I think he wanted you to get it just right, and you did. The winged creature in that leaf shadow? I say Pteradon, and I know that from reading Calvin and Hobbes. I have dim memories of the original Twilight Zone, but I clearly remember some were really creepy. Of course the theme was immortal and came in handy through life.

    1. Bonus points for Pteradon and for mentioning Calvin and Hobbes. I walked under that cluster of leaves, and the face popped out at me. Maybe my mind is twisted from watching all those Zone episodes and reading Calvin and Hobbes. That theme is timeless.

  8. I see a cut out pumpkin face in the first picture . The Twilight Zone definitely had some scary shows!

I see the same critters as you do in the leaf shadows. Love those two bunnies and Sammy hanging on to that peanut for dear life!

The sunrise through the tree makes a great picture. Beautiful shot of Old Glory.

Hope you have a great day.

    1. The leaf bundle is the color for a cut out pumpkin. That works.

The leaf critters jump out at me as I’m walking. Sometimes, they move in the wind in a way the creature might move. That always stops me.

Walking close to sunrise is a delightful experience (and cold).

I hope yo have a great day, Ginger.

I’m glad you like the leaf pictures. I can’t resist.

  10. I remember watching a few episodes of the Twilight Zone, long ago, but when I was young, say under 10, I preferred reruns of the old Flash Gordon with Buster Crabbe (when the cartoons were not on).

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Flash Gordon was a good show. When you consider the limited (by today’s standards) technology at the time, those shows relied on good writing, good acting and camera effects that no one seems to bother with these days.

  11. I still can’t do scary shows, so Twilight Zone was never one I watched. But I think they were probably more spooky than scary, so I should have watched them. But I still love Calvin and Hobbes!

The leaf pictures are great, but the bunny photos are adorable! Look at that little one posing!

  12. One of the scariest Twilight Zones (The After Hours) stared a mannequin. I still don’t like mannequins. I will always love Calvin and Hobbes.

This is the time of year when there are fewer bunny photos (we’re seeing less of them these days) and when colorful trees and leaf critters dominate my gallery.

I hope nothing changes regarding your safety, and I hope and pray everyone can get out of harm’s way with respect to this hurricane.

  13. Dan, I LOVED “The Twilight Zone” when I watched it in reruns. One of the most thought-provoking TV series ever. And great autumnal photos! (The Autumnal Photos Zone?)

    Liked by 1 person

    1. This will be The Autumnal Photos Zone until the leaves are all on the ground and scooped up to prevent shadows. It’s my fall look, Dave.

I still watch the Twilight Zone (streaming on Paramount+) and it’s still thought provoking. How he wrote/selected/revised those stories to give them a timeless quality is beyond my ability to understand.

  14. Those “are you still watching” prompts are so annoying. I want to shout, “So what if I’m NOT!” Last time I checked I am free to stream whatever I want. It’s ludicrous, really. In your case with TZ there should be a third option “what do you think,Silly Goose?”🤭

    1. Seriously, why would they care. Are they going to suggest I go spend some quality time with my family?

  15. I <3 the Twilight Zone! Might sound weird but to me, each episode came with a message … maybe a warning but always a moral story. B still watches some mornings as he gets ready for work. Have to love technology even with its annoying warnings.

Your gallery is stunning Dan! As I looked at the photos, I felt like I was walking the same path. I don’t see a face but I do see vibrant leaves creating a globe. What a stress relief :)

    1. Nothing wrong with a little Zone in the morning. Serling almost always included a message. Sometimes subtle, sometimes bold but most of them have a timeless quality and still resonate today. Thanks for the comment, Jill.

  16. The Maple Street ep scarred me for life! I wasn’t allowed to watch TTZ, but there was a framed picture on the wall of the bedroom that reflected the TV perfectly, so I did. I’ve paid for my trespass.

    1. Haha! Excellent way to watch. I love that. I was allowed to watch with my older brother, who was supposed to keep me from the really scary stuff. He wasn’t going to turn them off. The Zone was on mostly on nights when our parents were out (work, church or social). Either my brother was left to babysit me, or our cousin who lived next store babysat us both. Bad choices on all counts.

    1. No one around here is in any danger of starving, Liz. But it’s good to see them when they find a peanut or some food. We don’t actually feed the bunnies, but we let the stuff (weeds) they like to eat grow in abundance.

  19. So glad to see the leaf shadows back. The rest of the photos were good too but the leaf shadows have some laugh appeal. I have RoKu and never got that message. I think I don’t keep the set on long enough.

    1. I’m glad people like the shadows, John, I can’t resist. I never got that message before, but the marathon was on for a long time. Still, why do they care?

  21. I probably tuned in to the Twilight Zone a bit before I was old enough because, like you, I had older brothers to curate my viewing habits. Each one was an instant classic.

I don’t see a face in the featured photo, but it made me think of a disco ball made from leaves.

Leafy disco ball. I kinda like that.
