David and I are here. Here is the bar we visit every Saturday to unwind after a busy week. We come, we treat ourselves to an adult beverage and sometimes we have something to eat. These days, things around the bar are quiet. People here in the U.S. are preparing for one of our major holidays – Thanksgiving is this coming this Thursday. People are shopping, cleaning and many people are traveling or preparing to travel. We are not. While we’re here, we will make an attempt to handle Linda’s prompt.

SoCS by Linda G. Hill

If we were having a beer, you’d be arriving a little late.

“Hi Dan, sorry I’m late, I hope you just got here.”

“I’ve been here quite some time, David. I’m surprised that you’re late. That’s unlike you.”

“And it’s unlike you to be at the bar for any length of time without ordering a beer. I think you’re pulling my leg. Curley, how long has my young friend been here?”

“Dan? He just got here. I was just coming over to see what you guys want to drink – the usual?”

“Yes. A John Howell’s Bourbon Special for me and a cold Modelo draft for Dan.”

“Coming right up David.”

“Oh, and Curley, you forgot the cherries last week.”

“Sorry, David.”

“One more thing, Curley, Dan is paying today.”

“What? Why am I paying?”

“Punishment for trying to trick me into feeling bad.”

“Here you go David. A glass of John Howell’s Bourbon, a snifter of seltzer, a glass of ice and three cherries. Dan, here’s your beer.”

“Maybe I should start jazzing that up a bit, Curley. Seems kinda bland by comparison to his nibs.”

“Don’t do that, Dan. I need more customers like you. David orders one drink, spreads it across three glasses and complains when I forget an unnecessary ingredient.”

“Well, David’s complicated, Curley.”

“In case you two forgot, David is right here. You know, the guy with the bourbon.”

“We didn’t forget. Cheers, David.”

“Cheers, Dan. Hey, did I see that you joined that blue sky thing?”

“Bluesky. It’s one word. Yes, I signed up. A bunch of people did.”

“Why?”

“It’s another social media platform. A lot of people are leaving Twitter, and Bluesky is kinda the way Twitter used to be.”

“Used to be? What, two years ago? Is that the new definition of the good old days?”

“Things change, David, and on the Internet, things change fast. It’s just a place to connect.”

“Dan, this is a place to connect. This is social. I don’t go in for those other things.”

“I know, David. You prefer the…what shall we say…tangible?”

“Real. I prefer that which is real, Dan.”

“Social media lets us connect where real doesn’t work, David. I’m connected to people in other states, other countries—.”

“Other worlds?”

“Other worlds? No, not really, but it’s fun to think about.”

“No Star Trek? No Twilight Zone?”

“Well, yes, they’re out there. So is NASA. I guess I am connected to other worlds, David.”

“I sometimes wonder if you’re connected to this world, Dan.”

“You boys want anything to eat today?”

“Not today, Curley.”

“Wait a minute, David. Since you stuck me with the tab, I should be making that call. Curley, we’ll have some Teagan’s Stuffed Mushrooms.”

“Teagan. I suppose Teagan is out there in the blue skies.”

“Bluesky, David. One word. And yes, Teagan is out there. So is Sally Cronin and John Howell, and Linda Hill, and Hugh Roberts, and the Story Reading Ape; and lots of others.”

“Will you still have time to socialize here…with me?”

“Of course.”

Some of the pictures in the gallery were taken by my wife. I inadvertently put my watermark on all of them, sorry.

All five of my current books are now available in audio book form thanks to Amazon KDP’s Virtual Voice process. The voice is AI generated, but I can honestly say, it’s pretty darn good. The audio books are reasonably priced (all below $7 US) and, if you already own the Kindle version and want to add an audio version, you can do that for $1.99. There is a five-minute sample on the book page for each book. If you’re interested, click on any of the Dreamer’s Alliance book links below the image or on the link below for my latest book.

  2. Good morning Dan another day at the bar and Curly is already in the dog house with David.

The photos are lovely all of them! I hope you are not too busy with the Thanks Giving prep 💜💚

    1. Thanks Willow. Not too busy around here. ODdly enough, it’s only the grocers that even seem to know Thanksgiving is coming. Everyone else is focused on Christmas. Sad that we ignore the meaning of both holidays.

      1. It’s very sad Dan there really seems to be very little meaning to anything these days 😊😊

        1. We’re not buying much for Christmas, so the sales pressure is falling on deaf ears.

  4. David’s squawk about “the good old days” was it for me this time. Thank goodness my keyboard is still dry! You’re right about the connections to other worlds, and David is right about the “real.” The bar strikes the balance, yes? You know I’m not much of a rabbit fan, but the photo of the full-on rabbit face is a winner. Great shot!

    1. The bar is that setting for me. A merging of the real and the other, or perhaps that’s ether. That bunny shot is courtesy of my wife. I’m raiding her pictures so I have bunnies to offer during the winter. We know they’re here (from the piles) but we don’t see them very often.

  5. Hi David – love the photos … keep the mushrooms for me please – one of my specialities over here … that craving squirrel baby is very cute … and yes – I feel I’m in the real world when I blog with my friends … PS Happy Halloween week – cheers Hilary

    1. Thanks Hilary. I’ve learned much from my friends out here. You are all real, and I enjoy your company. I hope you have a great week.

  6. I heard Bluesky exploded with new users the day Trump was elected. I don’t have the time or patience for another site, but I hope you enjoy it.
    Now pass the stuffed mushrooms!

    1. I wasn’t going to join, but a lot of the people I follow on Twitter moved over to Bluesky. I miss the days when Twitter was fun. Now it seems like it’s a battle ground, and I can’t be bothered. It’s like walking into a bar where you instantly don’t like the vibe. I hope Bluesky ends up being different. I also hope I find a good place for stuffed mushrooms.

  7. I have trouble deciding when the ‘good ole days’ were, Dan. Bluesky, eh? Not sure I need that, I’m not an author or artist.
    Love the pictures!

    1. I’m trying to find social media that’s fun, GP. I remember when Twitter used to make me laugh more than it made me sad or angry. If Bluesky can’t do that, I won’t stay. I’m following friends, and I hope they keep it a worthwhile place to be.

  8. This is a great visit at the bar, Dan. Thanks very much for the shout-out — and for the mushrooms.

Yes, I’m at Bluesky and followers are most welcome. I’m making a point of sharing only posts that make me feel like the sky above me is blue. Hugs!

    1. That’s my hope , Teagan. I’m not following angry people. David is as much negative as I can handle, but he weaves in just enough snark to make it enjoyable.

No blue skies here. We have having rain for the third day in a row, and I am thrilled. After over two months without rain, this is a good feeling. I hope you have a great weekend.

  9. Dan, the flattened out squirrel on your porch railing, begging for peanuts, made me laugh out loud! What a ham!

I hope that feisty lilac knows what it’s doing. Crazy weather has everything going around in circles.

Good to see the puddle back. Almost forgot what a puddle looks like.

I’m such a dinosaur I’ve never heard of Bluesky! Following some amazing blogs is as social as I get!🤣

    Old Glory looks grand.

    Have a great weekend Dan.

    1. That squirrel had us laughing in the doorway. It certainly got her some peanuts.

It’ got cold again, so I think the lilac gave up dreams of blooming. It bloomed in October, as it did last year. It’s clearly confused by those 80-degree days we had.

The puddle was great to see. I don’t need to find you on social media, Ginger, but I am glad I’m one of the blogs you follow.

I hope you have a great weekend.

  10. Thanks for the mention, Dan. It is hard to find people on Bluesky but I will keep trying. Great photos and thanks for the link.

    1. I’m slowly finding people, John, but I’m being much more cautious about who to follow, if I don’t already know them. I don’t plan on getting to the level of connections I have on Twitter.

I added the links today in case I get some new visitors. I don’t want them looking for John Howell’s Bourbon ;-)

  11. Cheers to the bar and the original social media platform! It’s always better to connect with people in person, Dan, but Bluesky and other platforms keep us in touch with friends that live too far away. Like in Connecticut or Australia. I went to Threads as soon as Twitter was bought out, but wondering about Bluesky. How friendly is it? Non-political and happy?

It’s a busy time coming up with the holidays. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving, no matter what you and the Editor do with the day. 😊

    1. Thanks Mary.

Blueshy seems to be a nice place to be. I’ve made it clear that I’m not there for politics or hate, and I’m not connecting with people until I have a chance to see what they post. Fool me once, and like that. OF course, people I already know and like are easy choices.

I hope you enjoy the holiday and the traditional beginning of the Christmas season. I saw that you put your tree up. Good luck with Hoshi.

      Liked by 1 person

      1. I put the shorter fence around the tree first, but it didn’t take Hoshi long to secure one of the lower level ornaments. So, there is now a higher fence outside the smaller fence, and that keeps her out. I miss Ziva at Christmas. She would just make a bed out of the tree skirt and never went after anything else.

I might try Bluesky for a bit, but I can’t do both that and Threads. I recently unfollowed people on Threads who were regularly posting political things, even though they may be things I agree with. It’s just too emotionally sapping.

        Liked by 1 person

        1. Our second cat always slept under the tree. One year, we bought a mini life tree so we could keep it for a long time for him. I have been avoiding facebook off and on. I’m still checking Instagram but not joining Threads.

  12. The “May I help you?” photo of the bunny is so cute! Perfect caption, too. And the splooting squirrel is adorable! I know dogs sploot, but is that a thing with squirrels, too?

WP is the only social media platform that I do, and I love it here. I don’t try to understand what Musk does, but the grumblings sounded almost immediately, so I am glad that people have found an alternative. Good luck, Bluesky!

“Real. I prefer that which is real, Dan.”–David cracks me up. If I disagreed with one particular person at work, I would be told I was ‘negative.’ Oh no, I would tell them–I am a realist. Right on, David!

    Have a great weekend, Dan.

    1. The squirrels do that often in the yard when it’s hot. They are adorable.

I am seeing fewer and fewer people I know/like on Twitter, and I am not a big user of Facebook or Instagram (which Facebook owns). I liked Twitter in the early days. It was fun and much more random. I hope I can find that on Bluesky. If not, I won’t use it much. If enough people leave Twitter (X), I’ll shut down over there.

      That’s my wife’s answer when I say she’s a pessimist ;-)

David makes some good points, and it’s good to be able to disagree without hating someone (even if it’s fictional).

I hope you’re having a good weekend. We are getting rain, and there’s rain in the forecast for next week.

  14. As always, a great gallery (with thanks to your wife’s bunny contribution). Ironic post since I just joined Bluesky this morning. Twitter has become just too toxic; I’m hoping the new platform will be more inspirational. A girl can dream, right? ;) Have a great weekend.

    1. Thanks Monika. I did a quick search but didn’t find you yet. I’m @dantion.bsky.social if you want to connect. I am hoping Bluesky will be less toxic. I created lists on Twitter so I could follow a select group of trusted non-toxic folks, but they’re the ones who are leaving. I hope to find them at the new place.

      1. Thanks, Dan. I’m @1oesfan.bsky.social (probably should have registered under the blog name but my Twitter account was under the oes_fan name and it was a bit early when I initially got on line. It’s likely I needed a stronger cuppa before doing anything like that. :) I just registered this morning and am trying to figure out how it all works. All I could get was domain names and I’m not interested in paying for the privilege of managing another platform. Guess I need some time to figure it out.
