Welcome to Thursday Doors! This is a weekly challenge for people who love doors and architecture to come together to admire and share their favorite door photos, drawings, or other images or stories from around the world. If you’d like to join us, simply create your own Thursday Doors post each (or any) week and then share a link to your post in the comments below, anytime between 12:01 am Thursday morning and Saturday noon (North American eastern time). If you like, you can add our badge to your post.

in primo piano – photos

It’s been a busy week, so I thought I’d go with some random doors collected during various travels lately. I hope you like them. More importantly, I want to lay out the schedule for the people who participate in Thursday Doors.

The suggested themes are historic in nature. I think both were suggested by Norm. But they are suggestions. You are free to post whatever doors you like. Also, I am aware that some people share doors on the weeks this challenge is on holiday. I understand and admire that spirit. I’ll collect your door links and share them in the first Recap of 2025.

One last announcement: We have snow in the forecast overnight into this morning. I have errands to run this afternoon. We aren’t supposed to get much snow, but I will have to clear whatever we get, so I may be late or haphazard in my appearance here. Don’t worry, I’ll visit your doors. I hope all of you who make it here will visit at least some of the other participants. Of course, I will prepare the Sunday Recap.

  1. I enjoy seeing the different architecture Dan. I’ll try to do the themed posts where possible.

  3. Love the insurance office Dan! That’s an epic building to be working in. Thanks for creating a fun timeline, it definitely keeps it interesting and good luck with the snow. Not much of a Christmas feel here Down Under for me with the heat. Here are my doors this week https://wrookieschu.com/2024/12/05/doors-of-wordpress-v101-2/

  6. Dan, thank you for your super-organisation for the holiday period, and indeed for hosting Thursday Doors so well. I appreciate all the hard work you do very much. I love your mixture of buildings and doors this week, and particularly like the artistic image of the gate at veteran’s park.

The penultimate selection from me from Exeter this week: https://scooj.org/2024/12/05/thursday-doors-5-december-2024-exeter-doors#exeter#devon#uk#history

    1. Thanks Steve. You’ve been around long enough to know that I’m following Norm’s footprints pretty carefully. It worked for him, why mess with success?

Exeter has brought us some wonderful doors, and you’re still finding great ones to share.

  12. The Ainhoa Deli Grocery caught me eye enough to take a closer look. Meanwhile, on the eyebrow house, I see the chimneys as pop-up eyes! December seems to have a way of causing us to adjust our schedules.

    1. I’m glad you liked these, Frank. The deli caught my eye, too, as I was sitting at a red light. Things get busy for people this time of year, I think Norm wanted to make it easy to collect some doors and then give us a nice break. It’s a tradition I happily continue.

  13. The house with an eyebrow window has to be my favourite although I have to say that while some of them are charming, some “brows” can be downright creepy as it almost appears as if the roof has eyes. Thanks for sharing, and have a wonderful day :) Aiva x

  15. Yes, ’tis the season for adjusting routine, for sure! Make way for the holidays! And then there has to be time to get our heads back on in January. I love that old school, and I’m glad a historical society owns it. We got some snow last night, but barely. The cold settled in, though. I think we are at a roasty-toasty 12, not counting the wind. Good luck getting where you want to go!

    1. Hold tight to those 12 degrees. You don’t want to slip into single-digits. I am glad the Historical Society owns the school. I hope to attend one of their open houses after the holidays. We got though the snow and the cold and the errands are done.

Ooh, I’m motivated to go through last year’s Christmas images for holiday doors that I never shared, and also post my 2024 favorites probably also never shared. I’ve been really lacking at posting doors this year. I’ll have to add posting them more to my 2025 goals. 😊

Stay warm out in the snow. I hope that chore goes fast and your machine and shelter work wonderfully well.

  27. Great gallery Dan. I love that house with the “eyebrow” a lovely image comes to mind with the word attached to architecture…fabulous.

I like how you captured the whole vibe of a place and not only the building. I liked seeing the red light on the traffic light across from the corner market…great capture! And a nice corner building…that market.

The school brickwork is excellent and in great condition. Looks like it was built in the 50’s I am guessing?

And I love your feature image and other restaurant and grill…the elegant facade of the the “Willow Inn”

Thank you for your work in presenting the schedule for the yearend activities/themes for Thursday Door. You do a great job shepherding this challenge. I truly appreciate your work and generous support and kind visit.

Blessing to you and your family over this year-end’s festivities and holidays.

    1. Thanks so much, Suzette. I appreciate your kind words.

I think that school (and I’m guessing that it was a school) dates back to the 19th century, but I’m not certain.

The insurance company and the Willow Inn are nice examples of what people did with older houses that kept them from being torn down.

Mickey’s Oceanic Grill made me laugh. Lots of flames for the ‘grill’ part but no fish in the design?! Oh, Mickey…

    1. I’ve only seen out one of those eyebrow windows a few times. It’s interesting how much light they add to a room. Mickey’s has some pretty good seafood. My buddy and I used to have lunch there three or four times a year. It’s in between where I live and where I used to work, but it’s crowded for lunch.

      1. Interesting about all the light from the eyebrow window. I would have thought it was more ‘for decorative purposes only.’ Speaking of which, what is the purpose of a window like that? Seems it would be so much easier just to have a smooth roofline. Thanks, Dan!
