Welcome to Thursday Doors! This is a weekly challenge for people who love doors and architecture to come together to admire and share their favorite door photos, drawings, or other images or stories from around the world. If you’d like to join us, simply create your own Thursday Doors post each (or any) week and then share a link to your post in the comments below, anytime between 12:01 am Thursday morning and Saturday noon (North American eastern time). If you like, you can add our badge to your post.

in primo piano – photos

Today’s suggested theme (I only suggest two a year, and they are 100% optional) is favorite doors from the year. I think Norm started this tradition, at least I blame him for it. It would seem to be an easy task, but choosing a manageable number of favorites can be quite difficult. I hope you like the ones I’ve selected.

This is the final edition of Thursday Doors for 2024. After this runs its course with Sunday’s Recap, there will be no Thursday Doors challenge until January 9th, 2025. I will, of course, put a placeholder post here for those individuals who ignore such restrictions.

Please take a few minutes to explore some of the other favorites (or just doors for today). There will be a Sunday Recap his week, so if you miss any today, you can circle back.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend, and that your holiday preparations are well underway.

  1. Dan, I don’t know why I like yellow houses so much, but I do. That one at the top of the post is splendid, especially with the contrasting green trim. Those pediment (?) windows are an added delight.

I have a Doors post featuring some of the doors for my “inner spaces” of 2024. Hugs.

    1. You’re not alone liking the yellow houses, Teagan. I could fill a gallery with favorite yellow houses. I like the older houses that have evolved over time, probably filling the needs of different families.

You have a great post today. Doors to places only you can take us.

I hope you have a great weekend.

  3. A great mix, Dan! A smattering of snow really enhances some of those stylish houses, and makes me shiver at the same time. You’ve been a worthy successor to Norm. Thanks for all your time and energy. And happy hols!

  9. Thanks for this challenge today Dan. I love the first image on your post, it’s a very striking home with a great door to boot. I also love the birdhouse and I could totally see a raven living there. Here is my addition this week https://wrookieschu.com/2024/12/19/doors-of-wordpress-v104-🎅🏽/

  11. My wife broke her foot last year, and that caused us to think harder about moving to residence where BR, bath, kitchen, laundry, living room… are on one floor.

Though I’m now thinking that I need to move to a joint with stairs like that.

    1. Those are beautiful staircases. We are on one floor, but, as you say…

  12. All winners today Dan….doors, windows, dormers, and all the barns! That staircase is still breathtaking. The mantle clock is a work of art as is the birdhouse. Yes, a Raven would definitely live there!

The business end of the boiler still totally boggles my mind. The genius inventing it and the genius running it. Awesome.

    Thanks for sharing these again.

    1. Thanks Ginger. I find the boiler the most amazing.Picture standing there and knowing what all those gizmos do. All the while you’re controlling hundreds of tons of rolling stock. There are days I worry about stopping at the end of our driveway.

  17. I’m with Teagan–what is it about yellow houses that they are so captivating?! And I don’t even like the color yellow, but those two houses…oh, yes!

I had to laugh at your comment about the raven house. Yes! That is the only bird I could picture living in that birdhouse. So well done!

    1. Thanks Lois. The yellow house at the top of the gallery was a fan favorite. I think that’s been the case in years past. I’m not sure what it is about the color, but it works.

The Raven house is one of my favorites, but it also garnered a lot of comments.

  19. There are so many good ones in this collection, Dan. The first one that yellow is so cheerful, and I must have missed the Mars simulation image the first go around. That’s pretty cool. I loved the white barn, and the tobacco barn they’re always a fav when you post those. I would have loved a teepee tent like that as a kid.

    1. The Dutch Colonial looking barn is unusual, but the site is an active farm. I think they are a turf farm. The other barn is a tobacco shed. There are still a lot of them around here, though less and less tobacco is being grown each year.
