Welcome to Thursday Doors! This is a weekly challenge for people who love doors and architecture to come together to admire and share their favorite door photos, drawings, or other images or stories from around the world. If you’d like to join us, simply create your own Thursday Doors post each (or any) week and then share a link to your post in the comments below, anytime between 12:01 am Thursday morning and Saturday noon (North American eastern time). If you like, you can add our badge to your post.

Welcome back to Thursday Doors. We are ready to kick off a new year of sharing doors of all shapes and sizes from all around the world. Now that I’ve set you up for some wonderful doors, I should tell you that my doors today are quite ordinary and quite local. That’s OK. I don’t have much room to describe the doors. I have an announcement.

Today’s JusJoJan prompt is ‘Shy’ and it’s given to us by Di at pensitivity101. I’ll not be shy — In my post last year in December, I posted an incorrect schedule for the Thursday Doors Badge Contest. I mentioned that it starts today — it does. I also said the the last day to submit an entry is January 13th — that’s incorrect.

Don’t worry. The winning badge will serve for an entire year. If you are interested in submitting a badge entry, the correct dates and rules are listed next:

  • The badge should mention Thursday Doors and be something that conveys a doors-related message. It can be a photo, a drawing, a collage, or anything else that works.
  • The image should be applicable to all seasons, as we will use the badge for a year.
  • The badge should be little taller than wide but can be square. Otherwise, it’s going to be squished to fit in the welcome block – (see the one above as an example).
  • Your entry MUST BE an image you have the rights to share, and you must be willing and able to extend those rights publicly. I will be inviting everyone to use the badge. Note: If you need to include an attribution, add it to your image or send it to me and I’ll include it in the caption.
  • You may list your name or your blog URL on the image but don’t go overboard – this is about the doors.
  • Post the badge image on YOUR blog and leave a link to that post in a comment below or on Any of My Posts Between today and next week – January 16th.
  • If you do not have a blog, email the image to noFacilities-at-gmail-dot-com (you know how that works).
  • You do not have to be a regular Thursday Doors contributor to create a badge, but you should have a nodding acquaintance with the challenge. Regular readers are certainly welcome. However, Only Thursday Doors Participants will be Invited to Vote. They are the people who will be displaying the badge. It’s only fair that they get to choose. There is no required number of posts, if you participated in 2024, you can vote.
  • One entry per person. If you submit multiple entries, I will consider the last one submitted as your contest entry.

Timing – Your link must be posted, or your email must be received by 11:59 pm Thursday, January 16th (North American Eastern Time).

Process – I will assemble the images for review and post a survey for voting on Sunday, January 19th. The survey will be open until 12:00 p.m. EST, on Tuesday, January 21st.

Good luck to all participants. I hope you enjoy my doors, and I hope you take a few minutes to visit some of the other participants’ doors.

All five of my current books are now available in audio book form thanks to Amazon KDP’s Virtual Voice process. The voice is AI generated, but I can honestly say, it’s pretty darn good. The audio books are reasonably priced (all below $7 US) and, if you already own the Kindle version and want to add an audio version, you can do that for $1.99. There is a five-minute sample on the book page for each book. If you’re interested, click on any of the Dreamer’s Alliance book links below the image or on the link below for my latest book.

    1. Ha! I suppose. I love that they took a whimsical approach to their advertising.

Welcome back to a new year of doors. Yours is stunning.

  1. You do make a lot of work for yourself, Dan. I have to say that I like the existing badge- what an old stick in the mud I am! The Target hound is very cute. Have a good week!

    1. I almost skipped the badge contest, Jo. I do like the one we have, but I guess it’s a bit of tradition. Some people had asked. I am giving up the contest for the writing challenge badge. I’m keeping the one we had last year. I like it, and the contest is too much to deal with. I had known about the Target dog on the side of the truck (which is adorable) but I only recently saw one on the back. Sometimes, we need something to make us smile.

    1. I snapped that picture because of the roof. I shared the dog on the side of the Target truck earlier. I’ve always liked that, but I only recently saw the one on the back. We have one entry (above) already.

    1. It will be hard to beat this year’s badge. Actually, I’ve liked them all. Maybe next year, I’ll let people choose whichever one they like from past years (I think we have five now). The Target truck is too cute. This one was parked, but I love seeing them on the highway.

  8. LOVE the Target truck door. It gave me a chuckle. The roof on the entrance building to the army base is neat.

Okay, Congretional church. Beautiful structure. Great windows. But I’m sorry, that door on the left looks like a ghost with red eyes!

Have a great day Dan. 16*F here and unbelievably windy.

The “Feels Like” temp was 8 when I walked. The temp was 22. It was a short walk. The wind was awful.

Oh my goodness, you’re right about that church door. I hadn’t noticed that before. Now I can’t not see it.

      Stay warm and well anchored.

  16. I rarely go into Target, but I love that little dog!

One of your rules made me laugh–the one about adding your name and/or URL, ”BUT DON”T GO OVERBOARD–this is about the doors.’ From reading many contest rules, you do have to state everything. I am looking forward to the entries this year. The contributions always make choosing just one very difficult–in the best possible way.

    1. I have learned the hard way to get the rules right, Lois. I won’t say when or who was involved, but there have been some squabbles. It’s a blog badge, it’s not like I’m hanging it in the Louvre. Still, I’ve entered some contests, and I know it matters.

I go to Target for some specific items. I try not to wander the store. The trailers I tool the side and back photo of were parked at the store, so I didn’t risk a collision.

    1. Thanks John. I look forward to the entries, and I’m always glad I don’t have to choose.

The building Brooks Brothers is in used to be some merchandise group (Authentic Brands?) with about five different stores listed. I don’t know if some went out of business, but I know they all suffered during the pandemic. The group name and logo came down, and now it just says Brooks Brothers. My best shopping experience ever was in Brooks Brothers in Seattle. I wrote about that back in 2016. I’m glad I’m not shopping for that stuff now.

      1. Yeah me too. I could never wear Brooks brothers clothes. They just didn’t fit well.

  19. You didn’t need to downplay your doors today — they’re great! I’m always both excited and sad when we change badges, since I always like the one we’re using. OTOH, I usually snag some good ones as prompts for my Thursday stories in Story A Day May (Steffie, anyone?) My doors are cheats again this week. They come from a book. https://marianallen.com/2025/01/thursday-doors-if-you-say-so/

    1. Changes badges is hard. I’m thinking that next year we can just rotate through come of the previous ones. I do like seeing what people come up with.

I love Story A Day May (Steffie and The Librarian – Yikes, I forget her name). Anyway, whatever it takes to generate more of those stories, we’re up for it.

  23. Thank you, Dan, I appreciate very much all your work on Thursday Doors. And this is not the only challenge you manage. And so, I know you announced the badge challenge for this year’s Thursday Doors, but honestly, I love the existing badge… just saying!

Great photos as always. How ever did you get a photo from inside a car wash, I wonder… so amazing! Bravo!!

Corner buildings and red doors always catch my attention. And so the Franklin Trust building is a delight.

The beautiful photo of the pond in front of the Brooks Brothers building is absolutely spectacular. I like the ducks (?) swimming in the pond too. Great capture of an idyllic moment!

May this year be full of joy. All the best to you in 2025.

    1. Thanks Suzette. Several people have commented that they like the existing badge. I think next year, I’ll post the five we’ve had and let people choose the one they want to use.

You’re not allowed to touch the steering wheel or brakes as you ride through the car wash in your car. I needed a door ;-)

CFFC is easier to manage than Thursday Doors. It runs the entire week, and there’s no recap to prepare. I just have to visit the blogs, and I follow most of them anyway. I’m keeping Cee’s badge for that one.
