Welcome to Thursday Doors! This is a weekly challenge for people who love doors and architecture to come together to admire and share their favorite door photos, drawings, or other images or stories from around the world. If you’d like to join us, simply create your own Thursday Doors post each (or any) week and then share a link to your post in the comments below, anytime between 12:01 am Thursday morning and Saturday noon (North American eastern time). If you like, you can add our badge to your post.

in primo piano – photos

One of the things I was going to do during the holiday break was to visit a couple cities around me and gather some doors. Weather prevented that from happening, and weather has continued to prevent me from getting out for an extended doorcursion. I don’t like showing reruns, as we used to say before buying, streaming and binging were a thing, but that’s what I’m left with. I chose some photos from the early days of Thursday Doors, back to when Norm started the challenge. A few of you were with me back then (thanks!), but these should be new to many of you.

However, before we get to that, I have some news I’d like to put some emphasis on (“emphasis,” is the JusJoJan Prompt from Dar. Check out her blog here!

The Thursday Doors Badge Contest is over, and the voting ended in a tie. Some of you may remember that years ago, I said I would cast the tie-breaking vote — what was I thinking? I have decided to let the contest end in a tie. It was either that or a coin toss. The two badges are different, so it’s hard to decide between them on content. Between them, they garnered the bulk of the votes, and I like both of them.

I have contacted each artist, and they have agreed to go forward sharing the honor. As for you, the participants, you can use whichever badge you like, and you can mix it up. As for me, I will alternate between the badges.

I began (and will begin next week) with Ritva’s because her entry was received first. Today, we say good bye to our much loved badge by Marina at in primo piano. Marina, your badge has served us well.

Now to the gallery. The first door in the gallery was the first door I submitted for Thursday doors. I was nervous because I wasn’t sure what Norm was looking for. Silly me. Norm was as gracious a host as there ever has been.

I hope you enjoy the gallery, the new badges and I hope you will pop over to see some of the other participant posts. If you can’t get there today, they will be listed in the Sunday Recap.

All five of my current books are now available in audio book form thanks to Amazon KDP’s Virtual Voice process. The voice is AI generated, but I can honestly say, it’s pretty darn good. The audio books are reasonably priced (all below $7 US) and, if you already own the Kindle version and want to add an audio version, you can do that for $1.99. There is a five-minute sample on the book page for each book. If you’re interested, click on any of the Dreamer’s Alliance book links below the image or on the link below for my latest book.

Congratulations to the badge winners. I’m surprised it wasn’t an umpteen-ways tie, as all of the entries were quite good.

  32. Hi Dan,

What a brilliant way to start the first month of Thursday Doors this year with a nod to the photos where it all began for you in this challenge. The beautiful door of your first share (Richard Nixon’s birthplace) is a humble home and beginning for one who grew up to be the President.

I love all the doors and found it hard to choose a favorite. Your office window view is wonderful and relaxing.

I was amazed at the big door…that must be some big secrets to the history of history that require doors of such magnitude…wow!

Barns always are my favorite whatever shape they are in they speak of hard work and a time of trusting the land for its bounty. I like the red paint well-worn and the wood.

Thank you for your work on the Badge context, and for the flexibility to choose between the two-badge option. I like them both as well.

Great photos and share! Happy 10ish anniversary!
