When I took over the challenge, Cee had a number of combined challenges planned. These were opportunities to participate in two challenges at once. I want to continue this plan, but I’m not as familiar with the other challenges. So, rather than stack them back to back, I’m going to try to do about one a month. I’m also going to cheat, and do my other challenge (Thursday Doors) first. We finish our series with numbers today. Let’s have a little fun. Next week, we begin a series with colors.

I’m sure most of us will remember the nursery rhyme I’ve chosen for this week’s challenge. There are many variation, but that’s not too important. Look at the rhyme as written and use any or all of the bold words as prompts. If the words are numbers, use them the way you used them earlier. Otherwise, use the words themselves. This should give you lots of opportunities to choose a photo. New or archive photos are acceptable.

One, two Buckle my shoe;
Three, four Knock(er) at the (Thursday) door;
Five, six Pick up sticks;
Seven, eight Lay them straight;
Nine, ten A big fat hen

My gallery today includes photos for verses one, three, four and five. I’ll cover the second verse in my Thursday Doors post. I invite all of you to join, and, if you’re unfamiliar with Thursday Doors, you may not know about the Sunday Recap. If you join Thursday Doors through this challenge (on any day), your post will be included in the recap.

Bonus points – I never knew that the nursery rhyme had more verses, but click here to read additional verses and variations.

All five of my current books are now available in audio book form thanks to Amazon KDP’s Virtual Voice process. The voice is AI generated, but I can honestly say, it’s pretty darn good. The audio books are reasonably priced (all below $7 US) and, if you already own the Kindle version and want to add an audio version, you can do that for $1.99. There is a five-minute sample on the book page for each book. If you’re interested, click on any of the Dreamer’s Alliance book links below the image or on the link below for my latest book.

  5. I’m still trying to catch up on everything I missed over the last month or so, and it appears this is part of it. Did you take over Cee’s challenge?

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Yes, I did. Cee had to step away from several of her challenges for health reasons. She offered them to anyone who wanted to take over hosting them. I had so much fun with this challenge, so I asked her if I could take over. She agreed. You can learn more about my plans here, but I’m not changing much. Why mess with a good thing?

      1. Thank you. I hope Cee is getting good care. I’ve heard it said that if you want something done you should ask a busy person — you are proof!

  6. Okay, I had no idea there were more verses. I read them. I will continue to recite from 1 to 10 only! And she will remain a big fat hen!! Why are nursery rhymes and fairy tales always so gory?

    Looks like you have the Cadillac of boots Dan. And I love Faith’s shoes all lined up like little tin soldiers. The Haywood sign is neat, as are Thing One and Thing Two.

    Look at all those medals on Stubby! We don’t give enough credit to the canine heroes who played important roles in all our wars.

    Have a great week.

    1. I’m with you, Ginger, on both counts about nursery rhymes. I looked this up to make sure I remembered it correctly. I only remembered up to the big fat hen, and that’s all I’m going to try to remember going forward. I also learned “three four shut the door!” But my mother was always telling me that 😉

      Those are the boots I bought at LL Bean, along with the jeans. That was an expensive shopping trip, but the boots are comfortable, and I have some walking in the future with Faith.

      I think GP, over at Pacific Paratrooper, once did a post on canines in the service. They don’t get enough credit. Nor do the other service dogs.

  7. hat was fun! I’ve been needing new hiking boots mine are really old now and the footbed is no longer comfortable. I see you’ve got a brand I’ve never heard of. Those look like good boots.

    The Heywood Shoe sign is neat, very vintage and another shoe brand I’ve never heard of.

    1. I was actually looking for a replacement to the old LL Bean Snow Sneakers I had for over 20 years – they wore out to the point that the soles fell off. I have hiking boots, but they are more heavy duty, and not something I want to wear every day. These are (I guess) a lightweight hiking boot, but they are very comfortable, and I’ve been wearing them as I walk on snowy, wet or really cold days. I also plan to wear them while doing some urban hiking with our daughter the next time we visit Pittsburgh.

      1. Hopefully, you’ve got them well broke in for those hikes in Pittsburgh. Two my hiking boot pairs are approaching the 15 year mark and they’ve beaten a lot of trails. They’re hurting my feet now. Replacing them is one of my top priorities this first quarter of the year.

        1. They are pretty comfortable now. I’ve had them since the end of November and I’ve been wearing them most every day. I usually wear low cut Solomon hiking boots (they look like sneakers) but they don’t give enough support when Faith takes me “off the path.”

    One, two, Stubby likes you.

    Three, four, he’s at the door.

    Five, six, seven, eight,

    Hello, Prez, ‘hope I’m not late!

    1. Haha – There was air travel, shopping, beach time and being a guest at casual and business casual meals, Darlene. I guess she wanted to be prepared. I should add that she was out when I took that picture, so there’s another pair not shown.

      I took one pair in addition to the ones I was wearing.

  14. That’s a neat idea for the challenge, Dan. I’ll ponder it. The Heywood building/sign is wonderful. It makes me feel like and imagine stepping back in time a couple hundred years. Those are some good lookin’ boots. Made for walking. Nancy Sinatra’s singing. A fun karaoke song too. Hugs.
