Punxsutawney Phil, a groundhog in Pennsylvania, crawled out of his burrow, saw his shadow, crawled back in and hit the snooze button. Legend has it that if he sees his shadow on February 2nd, it means we will have six more weeks of winter. NOAA, the official weather forecasting agency in the United States reminds us that Phil is historically accurate less than 30% of the time. Of course, for a forecast of ten or more days, they’re only accurate a little less than 50% of the time. And, in fairness, this year, Phil is predicting for 42 days.
Well, I don’t know about weeks two through six, but this first week of his forecast is shaping up to be anything but an early spring (that’s what we get if he doesn’t see his shadow). Not only that, but our forecast has brought the dreaded two-word phrase that I consider the worst in weather.
A wintry mix will affect Poughkeepsie and Albany, New York; Hartford, Connecticut; and Springfield and Boston, Massachusetts. Snow, freezing rain, and sleet before 4pm, then a slight chance of freezing rain between 4pm and 5pm, then a slight chance of freezing rain and sleet after 5pm. Patchy fog before 8am, then patchy fog after noon.

All five of my current books are now available in audio book form thanks to Amazon KDP’s Virtual Voice process. The voice is AI generated, but I can honestly say, it’s pretty darn good. The audio books are reasonably priced (all below $7 US) and, if you already own the Kindle version and want to add an audio version, you can do that for $1.99. There is a five-minute sample on the book page for each book. If you’re interested, click on any of the Dreamer’s Alliance book links below the image or on the link below for my latest book.
