During the past few weeks, I’ve deal with technical support staff at Amazon, WordPress, Microsoft and Adobe. They all have a few things in common. One, they aren’t overly concerned about quickly solving the problems brought to their attention. Two, apparently, they aren’t blessed with an abundance of staff. Three (I’ll stop here), their message for those of us on hold all include the phrase, “We appreciate your patience…” – or something to that effect.

Why do they keep confusing frustration with patience?

On hold for One-Liner Wednesday by Linda G. Hill

All five of my current books are now available in audio book form thanks to Amazon KDP’s Virtual Voice process. The voice is AI generated, but I can honestly say, it’s pretty darn good. The audio books are reasonably priced (all below $7 US) and, if you already own the Kindle version and want to add an audio version, you can do that for $1.99. There is a five-minute sample on the book page for each book. If you’re interested, click on any of the Dreamer’s Alliance book links below the image or on the link below for my latest book.

  1. Hi Dan…. the large, plump rabbit through the screen was nice and I enjoyed the snowy scenes. Cheers to the brilliant flagpole photo at the end. I love the wave of the flag, bit of blue sky, and bench. It also just inspired me and I feel very grateful to be an American.

Never fun to sit and wait on those calls, Dan. Great one-liners and pics.

    1. Thanks Denise. I know the message is an attempt to be polite, but after enough time goes by, they become annoying.

If it’s so damn important, answer the friggin’ phone!!!!

    1. There are so many memes about that. I like the one that ends, “We’re going to wait until it’s no longer important to you.”

    1. I love when the beauty shines through, Jo. It was 22°f (-6°c) when I walked this morning. I can bundle up against that for a 30-minute walk, but it sure feels good to come back inside.

  7. Nothing ever goes smoothly when dealing with those guys, on line or by phone… They really don’t care if we are patient, frustrated or even murderous… They don’t have to deal with us face to face….we are not even numbers!
On a happier note your photos are amazing so beautiful…. I realise though that living it is harsher that viewing it ….have a good day and stay warm.💜

    1. Thanks Willow. It’s cold enough to keep the snow around, and I d like that. Fortunately, this time, almost everybody cleared their sidewalk, so it’s easy/safe to go for a walk. Next up is snow, mixing with rain and freezing rain – no walking after that.

  8. The black-and-white effect of winter is beautiful! The trestle, of course, wears all seasons well. The bunny photo did not come through, and that’s one of the new eccentricities in WP for me now. That whole thing about waiting on phones happens to be the subject of a post I’ve recently written but haven’t yet posted. The subject is a worthy one, and it’s therapeutic to read someone else’s vent! Thank you!

    1. I’m sorry about the photo gone missing. I have noticed that, too. It makes you wonder what’s next from these guys. Today’s angle on the trestle is one I can’t get in the summer. That’s why you see it so often in winter. I look forward to your rant.

  12. I contacted WordPress this week to find out they are working on the comment issue that requires multiple postings to get one comment. Working is a relative word depending upon which side of the issue one is on. :-) I have to call a financial institute to close out an old account, and I dread the time that I’ll spend trying to talk with someone like I do a root canal. This is my second try to post a comment because I forgot to hit copy so I could be ready to paste when I got the error message. It gets old.

    1. After sending them three sets of screen shots, they replied, “We’ve heard about this problem from others. We are looking into it but we don’t have a solution. Thank you for your patience.” That’s when I decided to write this post. Financial institutions are the worse, I think.

    1. I’m glad, Liz. These pictures of the railroad bridge are ones I can only get in winter. It disappears behind the leaves in spring. The bunnies, on the other hand will be coming out in the day, and eating every green new thing.

    1. It’s like they all went to the Cable Company school of customer service, Frank. They start by treating you like you’ve never used their product before. That’s more frustrating than waiting.

  15. Dan, I hope your interaction with WP was about the trouble we are all having with Comments! The other overused phrase when dealing with Customer Service is, ‘We apologize for the inconvenience.’ Could you stop apologizing to me and fix the issue?

    Liked by 2 people

    1. Yes, Suzanne, I was complaining about the comment problems. Between having them disappear, be rejected, be duplicated or be told that, “It seems you posted that before,” it’s maddening. I sent them screen shots, before (so they could see I was logged in) and in the various after conditions. They accept that there is a problem. They admit to having heard this from others, but they don’t have a solution yet. Then they thanked me for my patience – Accck.

  24. Ugh — all those at once, Dan? From the sounds and looks of it, hell froze over. (I never did get back my $200 that Amazon screwed up.)

I love the shots of the snowy trestle bridge. The river road is beautiful too. Although I admit that my mind was yelling, “Stop taking pictures and watch that icy road!” LOL.

Wishing you a cozy evening. Hugs.

    1. Not to worry, Teagan. My car was stopped for each photo. In fact, every time I take that road, I see at least one other person out there taking pictures. But, if you look closely at the first photo, you will notice about 50′ of guardrail that’s missing.

These calls weren’t all in close proximity, but none were fun, and not all of them were successful. Amazon leads the way in being unhelpful. At least I’m chatting with them, but it’s getting to the point that I think I need to speak with a human.

  25. Frustration is right! I love that image of the tree lined street curving in the distance. I want to follow the road. I also really like the header image. That a side of the Trestle bridge you rarely get to show us. It’s cool literately as I see it’s got a good layer of snow and or ice. ❄️😊

    Liked by 1 person

    1. That’s a view of the bridge I can’t get after spring when the trees fill in. You can see bits of it, but not the whole thing. I see people waiting at that spot for a train to come. I may have to join them one day. That road is the one that leads to the bridge. Not the safest place to be, as indicated by the missing sections of guardrail.

  27. I have no patience. I detest being on hold with companies that play their type of music or the worst repeating over and over again their statistics and where to call when to call blah blah blah. I’ve had to make many phone calls lately and it is really frustrating. Having to repeat your information and the problem you’re having to three people and then getting no results from all of this. Yes, I have no patience. Flag gorgeous and leaves hanging in😀

    1. Having to repeat (or retype in a chat) the information is the worst. Well, maybe the music is worse. It’s close.

  28. Pretty photos, Dan! I think anyone who enjoys technology can refer to their own frustration when it comes to dealing with a large company over the phone. It’s especially frustrating for me when I just have one question and want to speak to a live body, but have to go through ten voice-guided questions that lead me nowhere.
