Welcome to Thursday Doors! This is a weekly challenge for people who love doors and architecture to come together to admire and share their favorite door photos, drawings, or other images or stories from around the world. If you’d like to join us, simply create your own Thursday Doors post each (or any) week and then share a link to your post in the comments below, anytime between 12:01 am Thursday morning and Saturday noon (North American eastern time). If you like, you can add our badge to your post.

The badge contest ended in a tie, so I will be alternating the badge I use here, but you are welcome to use either of the winning badges.

Badge entry
Teagan at Teagan’s Books

The past two weeks have provided little opportunity for doorscursions. One, it’s been very cold. Two through (n), the snow and ice prevent walking around or even finding a good parking place. So, I’ve taken photos from stop signs, red lights and wherever I can kinda-sorta pull over. Not all are good pictures, and I had to cheat and use Lightroom’s Remove feature to remove a few cars, a sign and a utility pole. I only removed items that were blocking the doors.

This is what winter looks like around here. We don’t have a lot of snow, but it’s mostly covered with a thick layer of ice. The temperature hasn’t been above freezing for ten days. It is supposed to start warming up on Sunday. Until then, we live with the ice.

I hope you like the gallery. I also hope you have a few minutes to visit some of the other participants. We have had some exceptional doors shared in recent weeks. I’m sure you will enjoy them. If you want to see larger images, click on any one image to start a slideshow.

If you are in a hurry and don’t wish to scroll through the comments, click to Jump to the comment form.

All five of my current books are now available in audio book form thanks to Amazon KDP’s Virtual Voice process. The voice is AI generated, but I can honestly say, it’s pretty darn good. The audio books are reasonably priced (all below $7 US) and, if you already own the Kindle version and want to add an audio version, you can do that for $1.99. There is a five-minute sample on the book page for each book. If you’re interested, click on any of the Dreamer’s Alliance book links below the image or on the link below for my latest book.

    2. I’ve only been asked one time, and that was at a commercial building. People sometimes complain (on the town forum) about people taking pictures, but usually when the visit is prolonged. I most shoot these from places where people would expect you to stop (stop sign, school bus, cross walk, etc.), or from a good distance. Around here, a lot of people are trying to buy houses that they can “flip,” so someone taking photos isn’t uncommon. But those guys usually stop and take several. I snap a photo after a quick stop and I move on. That’s why some aren’t the best.

  8. Dan, I do love your ‘drive by’ galleries, they provide a rich sense of context, the snow and ice, big skies and wonderful architecture. Those first four houses are dreamy, and of course, you know I love a barn.

Finally, I reach the last instalment of Peterborough doors, my next challenge is what location to post next: http://scooj.org/2025/02/20/thursday-doors-20-february-2025-doors-of-peterborough/#Peterborough#Cambridgeshire#England

    1. Thanks Steve. I understand your dilemma. I have one more (I think) week of drive-by doors. Hopefully it warms up a little around here and we get enough melting to allow me to visit one of the places on my list. This winter has been harder than the previous three – more than the previous two combined. At least the snow made some mediocre doors look interesting. Barns in the snow are always interesting. You wrapped up your series nicely.

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Thanks Maureen. The barn has been featured before, but from the other side. From that street, it sits in front of other buildings and a couple houses. From this side, it’s on its own. I knew you’d like the porches, even if you wouldn’t want to be on them today.

The barns in the frozen pasture really portray the cold and bleakness of winter.

Love the porch on the last house. Yes, lots of additions, but they work nicely. Nice to see Old Glory displayed.

    1. Thanks Frank. I always ponder the houses with additions. Some are done well. Some look like they just nailed a room on somewhere where it would fit. I always wonder what caused the addition. Maybe they had triplets instead of one child. Maybe mom came to live with them.

  23. These houses are all so pretty. The snow makes them even more beautiful. I got a kick out of the cones on that sidewalk. We used to use little cones for soccer practice, but these look like big ‘city’ cones! And the barn…that is just lovely.

The beautiful stately homes (the Georgian style and the one with the last one (with the flag) are both iconic and from your great frame of the photo with land and sky content…idylic.

You do well in drive-by photography Dan, thanks for the inspiration. I hope the weather warms up there soon; we have about the same with more snow (of course, it is Canada!) on the ground and freezer-burn temps.

    Take two:

I think you did a wonderful job with your “from the car” photos! I do love that yellow house and barns hold a special place in my heart.

You probably have heard we got nailed big time (way to return from the Caribbean). We matched the record set in 1898 of getting 72.4 cm (28.5 in) in four days. Ice is never fun. I’ll take the snow over it any day.
