As many of you know, I have been having a problem where my comments are being duplicated on your blog. Now, I know you love hearing from me, but I’m sure once is enough. In addition to apologizing after the fact, and pre-apologizing in some case, I have been working with the Happiness Engineers.

I sent the before and after screen shots, showing the empty comment box, and the duplicate comments.

On Sunday, I sent them a list of seven blog URLs where my comments were duplicated. It doesn’t happen every time, and, so far, it only happens once per blog.

Here’s the response I received on Tuesday morning:

I tested this from my end but wasn’t able to replicate the issue—comments only posted once. This was reported to our developers earlier, but so far, we haven’t been able to reproduce it, and we haven’t received similar reports from other users.

Happiness Engineer for One-Liner Wednesday by Linda G. Hill

Am I the only one inflicting this particular comment pain on my blog friends? We all know there are a lot of problems with WordPress comments, but please let me know in the comments below if you have duplicates from other readers, or if your comments have been duplicated. Anything you can add about comments might be helpful because I’m going to send a link to this post to the Happiness Engineers working on this issue.

If you are mentioning a comment problem, and if you don’t mind, can you add something to indicate where you comment from (Reader, Safari, Chrome – Apple/Windows – iPhone/Android/Tablet) – I’m sure the HEs would like to know — thanks!

All five of my current books are now available in audio book form thanks to Amazon KDP’s Virtual Voice process. The voice is AI generated, but I can honestly say, it’s pretty darn good. The audio books are reasonably priced (all below $7 US) and, if you already own the Kindle version and want to add an audio version, you can do that for $1.99. There is a five-minute sample on the book page for each book. If you’re interested, click on any of the Dreamer’s Alliance book links below the image or on the link below for my latest book.

  1. I’ve not had the duplicating issue, Dan (once is definitely enough of me) but I do still have disappearing comments on some blogs. It’s always when you least expect it, and have been lulled into a false sense of security. I comment via Reader. Happy Wednesday xx

  3. I haven’t had duplicates of your comments Dan. Nor have I had it happen to me. I sometimes get a message to say “It looks like you already posted that comment” or words to that effect. This usually happens if I think the comment was not posted and try to post it again.

Although I use the Reader I always go to “visit post” to make the comment directly on the person’s blog. I use Chrome most of the time.

  7. I’m not experiencing any problems with comments, Dan. There are no duplications. I did encounter issues leaving comments via email notifications on some blogs, receiving a ‘Sorry, this comment could not be posted’ message. However, after reporting the issue to WordPress, they fixed it, although it took a few weeks. Other users had also reported the same problem.

I hope you receive more examples from users who are experiencing the same problem that you can take back to WordPress.

    1. Aha! THAT was the problem with comments I just mentioned to Dan, in addition to his duplicates (which show up on my site). The “can’t post…” one. Glad others reported it and it got resolved, as that was my on again off again issue for a while.

      1. I got a message from WordPress last week saying the problem had been fixed. They kindly asked me to check that everything was working correctly again over a few days and to let them know if the problem was still occurring. But I’m delighted that a week on, there is no sign of the ‘Sorry, this comment could not be posted’ message, so they managed to fix the issue. Apparently, it was affecting 25% of users.

  9. I have seen your duplicate comments on other blogs, but not on mine so far. I’m not aware of my comments being duplicated. I open posts via email on Chrome and have experienced the dreaded ‘error’ message and away the comment goes. So, I’ve been copying each comment before I actually hit the button. It has not been as frequent this week, so maybe they have made some progress.

    1. I forgot my latest WordPress issue. If I’m reading comments on a blog post, I cannot ‘like’ a comment unless I make a comment first. So, I have to read the comments, make a comment, and then go back and reread to find the ones I want to like. They certainly make something fun challenging and time consuming.

As for what the HEs do differently, they work in a pristine environment. I know because that’s how I worked for over 40 years. The problems never affected those of us in IT, and saying “I can’t duplicate those results” was my standard answer forever.

  13. I have problems with WordPress sometimes not remembering who I am when I post a comment.

However, on Esther Chilton’s blog I have found comments to enter before I actually press the “Comment” button. There I am usually formatting a poem and using Shift-Enter to get a new line. Doing that entered what I wrote so far as the comment. I thought it might have been that I pressed Ctrl-Enter by mistake, but I don’t know why anything but pressing “Comment” should work.

Using the Reader to enter comments on her page worked without any problem.

Here is an example although I think she removed the earlier errors: https://estherchilton.co.uk/2025/02/10/laughing-along-with-a-limerick-218/?jetpack_skip_subscription_popup

  15. My comments are not duplicated. MY comment problem is that I’ll type a comment, push the “Comment” button and get a message saying something like “You comment cannot be posted…” I’ve not embedded links or anything, just typed a sentence, and of course the comment goes missing and I have to redo it. Often I have to log out and back into WP to get the exact same comment to post (or I give up). This is on my laptop, logged into my M.Oniker account, running Chrome. It is sporadic. Just when I think it is gone, it starts again. I’ve not reported it, because: WP.YOUR comments do duplicate on my site, but again, not all of the time. You mentioned it to me the once, I replied, and since then I just go in a delete the duplicate ones for you. I’ve deleted duplicates from you 3-5 times?

    Liked by 1 person

    1. PS. I’ve not seen duplication of comments from anyone other than you, Dan, on mine or other sites. Special! Also, the formatting I did above so it wasn’t a wall of text, vanished when it posted. :)

      1. Thanks for the information. I hope the HEs can figure this mess out. I love leaving comments, but I hate when they get duplicated. I get the “You comment cannot be posted…” message a lot. I’ve taken to copying my comment before posting. These are steps we shouldn’t have to take.

        Liked by 1 person

  16. I know that’s been bugging the Dickens out of you, Dan. Whenever l get that “we couldn’t replicate the problem” response (and I’ve gotten it dozens of times over the years) it infuriates me.
WordPress gives me such a slew of different commenting problems that just listing them would hijack your post.
I have gotten double comments from people besides you. And a few times my comments at other blogs duplicate.
Whenever I get double comments I delete one of them. However, WP has also messed up the way I used to handle answering comments. Now its hard for me to see what’s going on, so I don’t always delete the duplicate.
I enjoyed the critter pictures. Hugs.

  19. No, Dan…you are not alone. I’ve had a few commenters who’ve left duplicate comments as well. With the latest adjustments to the platform, there have been multiple issues but this is the least onerous. I subscribe via email notification and view posts through Chrome since WP has long seemed to dislike Safari. There is one blogger I can only leave comments through Safari. I almost need a spreadsheet to determine how to comment and where anymore.
P.S. I’ve yet to have a HE’s duplicate problems. Mostly I’ve become used to work-arounds which seems like a stupid way to deal with things but it’s all so exhausting. And to think my blog is a paid business account 😬 Good luck.

    1. Thanks Monika. I may be switching to Chrome for WordPress. I’ve often considered Chrome to be the developer’s friend, as it has the least protection of all the major browsers. Developers like it because it doesn’t block certain operations (like third-party cookies) the way others do. I only use Chrome for research and social media. Maybe I’ll toss WordPress into that mix.

      1. Good luck. As is always the case, there are pros and cons to Chrome/Google. You have to decide what hill is the least painful to die on. I haven’t been able to dependably and successfully draft posts on Safari since Block was introduced. I keep asking myself why is it so hard and then I remember Blogger is even more challenging.

        Liked by 1 person

        1. I started blogging on Blogger. I agree, it was much worse. WordPress moves too fast trying to change things. Blogger never changes anything. I always have both browsers open. I think I’ll move gmail into Chrome so that when I click on a blog link, it opens there. I worry about personal security on Chrome, but gmail is already part of that pit.

My access to my WordPress account will remain through Firefox.

  20. I have several readers who’s comments are duplicated. It doesn’t happen every time but often enough. I am running WordPress on Firefox on my Mac Sequoia OS 15.3.1. Also, every WordPress comment I make, I have to sign in. I originally thought it would be a one time thing per post but it now seems permanent.

    1. I had that same issue with Safari after years of flawless performance. Now I can’t draft posts on it anymore. WP suggested I use Chrome which I’ve done since the introduction of the Block editor. That said, I can only comment on one particular blogger’s post in Safari after she changed something on her end for security purposes, and I have to go through Safari in order to leave a comment. All this switching back and forth is such a pain. The duplicate comment issue is practically minor compared to all the other crazy stuff since the Block editor was introduced.

    2. Thanks for the input, John. WordPress seems to have concluded that the problem lies with me. I’m going to try using Chrome for reading and commenting on blogs. It may work, but I feel it’s them giving up. When I was working, we tested web access from Windows and Apple laptops using Microsoft, Chrome, Safari and Firefox browsers. We also tested iPhones, iPads, and at least one Android device. You can ask my wife about the number of times I called and asked her to visit a website. I know a lot of developers who only test on the platform they run and in Chrome.
