Today, we’re continuing our series dealing with Transportation. We still have a few more weeks with this theme. If you want to see where we’re heading, you can check out the home page for this challenge.

Like every CFFC topic, there are lots of things that fall under this topic. I know lots of people like trains, so I’m really looking forward to your posts.

My featured photo is from the Heinz History Center in Pittsburgh. My mother took me into the city when I was a little boy to see the Christmas Decorations in a trolley that looked just like that.

Good luck finding your photos, as you travel or in your archives. That’s how this works. Have a nice week.

All five of my current books are now available in audio book form thanks to Amazon KDP’s Virtual Voice process. The voice is AI generated, but I can honestly say, it’s pretty darn good. The audio books are reasonably priced (all below $7 US) and, if you already own the Kindle version and want to add an audio version, you can do that for $1.99. There is a five-minute sample on the book page for each book. If you’re interested, click on any of the Dreamer’s Alliance book links below the image or on the link below for my latest book.

  5. Love your feature photograph, Dan. Trains come in all different shapes and sizes, don’t they? I have very fond memories of the steam trains on the North York Moors xx

    1. I love every kind of train, Jo. Steam trains are such a special experience. I’ve only ridden on historic one, but I love them.

  6. It’s not quite 5:00AM, I’m just a few sips of coffee into consciousness, and I open your blog. WHOA. That top trolley is eye coffee — suddenly I’m awake! What a beauty that is! Trains and trolleys are such good subjects. That’s a wonderful memory of your mom and the Christmas trolley.

    1. I remember that trolley like it was yesterday. We stood on a platform in the middle of a busy street. My mom wasn’t a great driver, but she navigated public transit like pro. She worked in a downtown department store, and she was more comfortable in the city than I think even my father was. I’m glad I could help you get your day started.

  7. I miss train travel. Haven’t been on one in years….

    1. I miss it, too. We have new service in our area, but they’re doing so much construction on the tracks, that it’s really become unreliable, and you never know when you’ll be offloaded to a bus.

        Inner city bus? Hell no.

That first trolley is one magnificent piece of metal! What a thrill it must’ve been to ride in it.

That’s one truly loonnggg train and one tiny trolley on the incline. They’re like Mutt & Jeff!

Impressive dome ceiling in the Moynihan Train Hall.

You have put together an eye-catching collection of trains and trolleys Dan. Thanks for sharing these.

Wishing you a great week ahead.

    1. Thanks Ginger. These are some of my favorites, but I love trains in all settings and all sizes and shapes. I loved riding the train at the amusement park in Pittsburgh with my grandmother. That was the only ride she ever went on, and I was always the one to ride with her.

The Moynihan Train Hall is magnificent. They did such a good job converting the old Post Office. I was there right after it opened.

I hope we see some warm weather this week. We could use it. Take care.

  11. Tremendous transportation photos, Dan! Ending trolley service in many places was so shortsighted (but of course carmakers, oil companies, etc., were happy to push for that).

    1. Thanks Dave. They turned much of the old trolley system in Pittsburgh into “The T” – it’s so cool to see trolley running again. I agree, they never should have ended. It’s so stupid having every person driving themselves to work.

  12. Every year there is talk about reviving our Amtrak service, and every year nothing happens. The ceiling of the Moynihan train hall is a beauty. It reminds me of a peacock tail opened up so proudly.

The last time I was on a train was back in Jersey…eons ago. Your photos brought back good memories, Dan.

  13. Nice photos, Dan. Why is it you always enter my mind when I’m around trains and cranes? Hmmm? ;-)

I’ve never been on one, but one day I’d like to take a ride on an incline. It’s a cool way to get up a hill without driving or walking. Maybe one day. Have a great week!

    1. Trains and cranes are certainly favorites of mine. The inclines are a fun ride, Mary, but not for everyone. I’ve had family members they wouldn’t ride them.

I love the photo of the night AMTRAK 141; it looks like something out of a movie. Of course, I have a soft spot for trains, so I could not choose a favorite. The long freight train photo is amazing; I am not sure how you captured that photo. Wow~ Have a blessed day, Dan.

  23. An excellent selection. I’ve only been in the Moynahan station once–the only trains I’ve taken since it opened have been NJ Transit which still use the old Penn Station. I was passing by from somewhere further west and decided to walk through. It’s a testament to perseverance that it finally got built. (K)
