One of the TV shows my wife and I enjoy is As Schools Match Wits, a high school quiz show produced by a local PBS station. The show includes categories like Math and Science, where I usually shine, to Literature where my wife scores most of the points. We do enjoy it when we know the answer before the high school team.

One question a couple weeks ago was “Matter exists as a solid, a liquid, a gas and…?”

I knew the answer right away—Plasma.

My wife looked at me and admitted that, despite being familiar with the term, she wasn’t sure what plasma was.

Of course, I took that to mean she wanted me to explain, which I began to do — three seconds later she said: STOP!

One-Liner Wednesday by Linda G. Hill

OK, time to shift to the announcement. Shift, by the way is my way of participating in Wayne’s (WrookieSchU) new blog series called WaynesWord. The announcement is to inform/remind you that I am accepting door photos for the 5th Annual Thursday Doors Writing Challenge. For more complete information, visit the main announcement page, but basically, post and send me a link to 1, 2 or 3 doors. If you don’t blog, send the doors to NoFacilities at Gmail dot Com (rendered appropriately like you know how to do). If you want an idea of the variety of doors that get submitter (and the creations they inspired) please visit the Writing Challenge 2024 page.

Today, I’m sharing a few signs of we’re told is spring.

All five of my current books are now available in audio book form thanks to Amazon KDP’s Virtual Voice process. The voice is AI generated, but I can honestly say, it’s pretty darn good. The audio books are reasonably priced (all below $7 US) and, if you already own the Kindle version and want to add an audio version, you can do that for $1.99. There is a five-minute sample on the book page for each book. If you’re interested, click on any of the Dreamer’s Alliance book links below the image or on the link below for my latest book.

  1. I like these kinds of shows too. Michael and I get art and literature, Greg gets science, TC is good at music and geography and we all do history. Fun! Thanks for the doors reminder. I found pictures but forgot to send them 🤦‍♀️

    1. Thanks Robbie. The only downside with that show is when we realize that the history questions are about events that happened in our lifetimes ;-)

I look forward to your pictures.

  2. I am a quiz show watcher as well. I do enjoy it when I get a lot of the answers before the contestant too. Some shows I am taken to yelling the answer and telling the contestant “I friggin’ told you the answer!” when they get it wrong 😂
I see that the weather is variable at this time of year although the rabbits don’t care

    1. That’s funny, Brian. We yell at them, too. The bunnies are out and about, enjoying the fresh green things to eat.

  3. I understand why she might have said STOP, Dan. Too much information. Happy Wednesday xx

  4. LOL! My eyes glaze over when hubby starts to explain something mechanical. (I’m sure his do too when I talk about books.) I’ve never had to say stop, but I have changed the subject.

  5. Close call! I’d just swallowed when I got to the line about how you took that as a sign she wanted you to explain. But still I thank you for the laugh with morning coffee. Winter sure is hanging on this year.

  7. We have beautiful sunshine today, and I’m grateful for that. Our Hyacinth buds have just broke through so blooms are still to come. Our Forsythis is blooming, and it’s lovely. I’m sure hoping spring is here to stay, and I can drain the gas from my snowblower. Question for you – do you drain the oil? Thank you. :-)

    Liked by 1 person

    1. I hope spring is here to stay. I don’t drain anything. I change the oil at the start of the season, and I put fuel stabilizer (Stabil) in with the gas. I’ve never had a problem. In fact, I recently started a machine that had sat in the shed for at least two years without being run. Five pulls and it fired right up. I mix the stabilizer in when I fill the cans, so all the gas in everything is treated, but you can treat it after the fact.

Perfect one-liner! We had the same weather last Saturday. I don’t understand why winter won’t let go and be on its way.

Nice to see that splash of color thanks to the forsythia. Bunnies are definitely nibbling! I’m thinking you and the Editor are planning to plant more hyacinths since they seem to be bunny-proof. Lol.

Porta-potty! Spring is definitely coming to the park!

Enjoy the rest of this week Dan.

    1. Thanks Ginger. Winter definitely doesn’t want to go into storage. I don’t think the bunnies were happy about that snow. I know the flowers weren’t. It looks like we have some warm weather coming. I just hope it doesn’t shift to 90-degree days.

It’s starting to get colorful here. I hope it stays on course.

I laughed when I saw the Porta-Potty. That’s a sure sign of spring. Kids will be playing on that field soon.

I hope you have a great week.

I gave plasma a couple of times at the community blood center, but I didn’t know my body contains one of four elements…lol. Yes, I know that’s not it, but sometimes coffee makes me feel like a charged particle.

Okay, I’ll STOP. Looking forward to the doors writing challenge, Dan, and I may even show up soon for a doors post. Have a great day!

  18. Loved the photo with the mud and green in the background. The one liner is perfect. I have stopped explaining anything until there is a request for an explanation that is clear. Something like, “Will you please explain to me why you were patching drywall while wearing a good shirt?”

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Ha ha! I don’t think anyone is really asking for an answer to those questions either John. BTW, I have several shirts that are now suitable for painting – I swear, I just had to touch up a small area.

I’m a huge Jeopardy fan and record it to watch it at my leisure. My son usually cleans up when we watch it together.
