Note: I’d like to start with a couple cross-blog announcements. First, if you have more transportation photos, you can post them (or cross-post this) for the renewed version of Cee’s Which Way Challenge. Second, I hope you will check out Wayne’s Word – a new challenge by a friend I met through Thursday Doors. Finally, speaking of Thursday Doors, this is the last week to contribute doors for the 5th Annual Thursday Doors Writing Challenge. You are welcome to write, but you don’t have to. If you have photos of interesting doors that mght inspire other creatives to write, contribute according to instructions on the announcement page, or email them to me at NoFacilities at gmail dot com.

We’re continuing our series dealing with Transportation. We still have two more weeks with this theme. If you want to see where we’re heading, you can check out the home page for this challenge.

Like every CFFC topic, there are lots of things that fall under this topic. I don’t travel by air as often as I used to, but I do live two miles from an airport. I know there are a lot of travelers out there I’m really looking forward to your posts.

My featured photo is from the Heinz History Center in Pittsburgh. My mother took me into the city when I was a little boy to see the Christmas Decorations in a trolley that looked just like that.

Good luck finding your photos, as you travel or in your archives. That’s how this works. Have a nice week.

All five of my current books are now available in audio book form thanks to Amazon KDP’s Virtual Voice process. The voice is AI generated, but I can honestly say, it’s pretty darn good. The audio books are reasonably priced (all below $7 US) and, if you already own the Kindle version and want to add an audio version, you can do that for $1.99. There is a five-minute sample on the book page for each book. If you’re interested, click on any of the Dreamer’s Alliance book links below the image or on the link below for my latest book.

    1. Thanks. It was fun finding them hanging out in the airport. We’ve seen those statues before but I always enjoy it.

The Blues Brothers brought back a good memory of when one of the other teeachers and I dressed as them for the school talent show. We cartwheeled across the stage. Not a pretty sight. 🤣

  8. That thread of an aisle between the poor sardines is exactly my impression of air travel. Soon they’ll have us sitting on each other’s heads. That’s a great photo of the plane and tree against that flaming sky — wow. Good to see the Blues Brothers cool as ever.

    1. I dread flying these days, but some places are too far to drive (although, in retirement, I’m extending that range). The Blues Brothers always cheer me up.

  10. What a wide variety, Dan! Even the Blue Brothers are there. I like the rows of seats. Simple, yet so effective.

    1. Thanks. That plane was continuing to my destination, but everybody else got off, and new passengers hadn’t boarded. It was kinda spooky.

      1. I can imagine. Eery – a completely quiet, empty plane.

  11. Excellent plane-related photos, Dan! Your “I think we could squeeze a few more seats in there” caption is depressingly hilarious. Traveling in coach is a miserable “sardine” experience.

    1. They keep trying to figure out how to get another row in there, Dave. It is sad.

The Blues Brothers! What a fun idea someone had. The photo of the rows of seats makes me wonder if sardines might have more elbow room in their cans!

Those hangars lined up on the field look like they are modern-day tobacco barns!

That’s a great capture of a plane, sunset, bare tree. Love it.

    Have a great week Dan.

    1. Thanks Ginger. Anytime I see the Blues Brothers, I smile and it’s a good day. Those seats, on the other hand, yeah, I think sardines have it better.

They’re closing the main runway at BDL for repairs, from May to November. I’m going to have a lot more plane photos as they fly overhead.

      Have a great week.

  13. I like you two ‘close to the airport’ photos, but the Blues Brothers…! How fun to see something like that to take the stress out of waiting at the airport.

    1. We’re going to find out just how close we are, Lois. They’re closing the main runway at BDL for repairs, from May to November. I’m going to have a lot more plane photos as they fly overhead. Maybe I can borrow the Blues Brothers for the back yard.

  15. Your morning or evening Golden Hour shot of the plane on the tarmac with a cloudy sky is very nice.
I just read a little news story about a baby acting up on a plane before they took off and a flight attendant offered to take the baby with her for preflight checks up the aisle. While she was closing bins, checking seatbelts, etc. the baby girl was blowing kisses to the passengers all along the aisle. I loved that story and thought it was timely for your post since I read it right before I read your post. 😊

    1. I do that sometimes, too. I’m often on the earliest flight out, so the plane has been here overnight. It’s those middle-of-the-afternoon connections that worry me.

  17. How fun. I didn’t know Blues Brothers statues were a thing. I like the plane photos. That sunrise is utterly breathtaking! Hugs.

    1. They are a thing, Teagan. Faith and I have seen them in a restaurant in CT, and they recently arrived atop a bar I’ve been meaning to try. Sky scenes near an airport are often amazing.

  26. Nice selection of shots Dan. I really like the spotty glass shot – an interesting variation on the normal pre-flight aircraft shot. Looks like you get a nice mix of Aircraft over your garden 😎👍

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Thanks. We do get an interesting mix. In addition to the passenger and cargo flights, we have an Air National Guard base and an Army Reserve base at BDL.

      1. It’s great having lots of air activity over the garden. We are just south of the RAF Northolt approach path. Then there’s the aircraft flying in to Heathrow. When they’re using the westerly runways there are a lot of US and Canadian flights overhead in the early morning along with services from The Middle East and Asia. We also get some general aviation scraping along the edge of the Heathrow Control Zone 😅

        1. Some people around here complain about the noise, but I love seeing the planes. When we first moved here, the Air Guard was flying A-10 Warthogs. They would come in in groups of four (two pairs) and practice wingman landings where one plane would follow the other down to the runway and then peel away and come back in for their own landing. IT was so fun to watch. The Army base flies CH-47 Chinook helicopters. Those will wake you up fast.

          1. Ah yes! – The ‘Wokka Wokka’ – We occasionally get them too 😎 The Warthogs must have been fun 👍 One interesting visitor we get going into Northolt a couple of times each week is an Italian AF Piaggio Avanti – sounds a bit like a buzzsaw 😅
